Review titled Level 9 millennium wing gastro
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lee James - Posted on 10 December 2024
The Nurses across this whole department/floor are nothing short of exceptional. After spending a lot of time over the last 18 months on this floor I cannot thank these amazing people enough. I’ve had two major operations in this time and the care after from both the nurses on the wards and the stoma nurses in hospital and at home after have saved my life. They work under extreme pressure and unbelievable demand but are always happy and will put you at ease. Thank you for helping me at a very stressful time in my life, I will forever think you are superhero’s.

Review titled In need of improvement
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 10 September 2024
The receptionist wasn't particularly polite. The bathrooms near reception area were not clean. The admission nurse was good and kind. The endoscopist didn't allow enough time between administering the anesthetic and the beginning of the procedure. This resulted in me experiencing agonising pain half way through the procedure. I was moaning and clutching the bed rail. I felt sick and faintly. The endoscopist wrote in the report "1 or 2 episodes of mild discomfort with no distress", I don't agree with this statement. I was in agonising pain. I was in so much pain that I couldn't stop moaning, I was clenching the bed rail, I tried to focus of breathing but I couldn't breath properly. The endoscopist didn't say a word during or after my pain episode. The nurse in the recovery room was kind and highly professional.

Review titled Mixed experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by David Seabrook - Posted on 11 September 2024
I was admitted to Brighton hospital after an accident, the doctors and staff in resus and A&E were excellent, well done! From A&E I was transferred to a Trumra ward, some of the care on the ward was excellent, but this was spoiled by some members of staff behaviouring unprofessionally. I experienced judgemental comments and even negative body language from the nursing staff as did my family too. Medical doctors on Trumra ward were very good apart from the lack of information regarding what my exact injuries were... Some doctors did not discuss or even explain why some medication was prescribed... Overall my experience at Brighton Hospital has been mixed...

Review titled exemplary service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Gerald - Posted on 03 September 2024
I recently had open heart surgery at the Sussex Cardiology Centre. After a couple of false starts once I was admitted I had the surgery and was back home 4 days later. During my stay the League of Nations looking after me were, to a person, thoroughly professional, kind, caring and provided me with a sense of confidence and reassurance that I was in safe hands. A truly special group of people. It's such a traumatic experience but this team is so well drilled and strike the right tone at all times quickly moving through the gears when needed. Despite all the pressures and criticism the NHS faces, when you get down to the coal face the service is just fantastic. Thank you.

Review titled Fantastic staff who are abused by the selfish few
by Stridey373 - Posted on 20 August 2024
I was referred to Brighton and although they were expecting me, they'd had a run of emergencies before my arrival and had spent 6 hours in emergency surgery. As a result, I spent a total of 6 hours waiting to see a Doctor and then another 4.5 before I got a bed. Rather than complain, I am so grateful that I wasn't the one of the patients in a life threatening condition and would never complain at the length of time I had to wait unlike others! Whilst my wound was bleeding and dripping blood on the floor as had soaked through the dressing, a lady beside me was moaning because she'd caught a bug from her son and just wanted to be seen as she had a headache!! In those hours I did a lot of people watching and am absolutely astounded and upset at the treatment towards all NHS staff (not just Doctors and Nurses) and the feelings of entitlement of these 'patients that they have every right to behave in this manner! One common factor I noticed is that they appear to revel in having an audience and 'puff themselves up with a smug look on face because they feel everyone is in awe of their bullying of the Reception staff! I saw 4 separate patients arrested throughout that time!! One patient arrived by ambulance and was clearly under the influence of something and was aggressive, dramatic and time consuming of the paramedics. Eventually this patient was also arrested but the ambulance was out of action for an excessive amount of time! Whilst sitting in the treatment room having bloods etc with 5 other patients, the room was filled with the smoke of weed!! The windows were open but there are signs outside asking people not to smoke near the windows, however; their selfishness prevents them from complying! I was then moved to 'majors' and although no abuse was witnessed, the sheer quantity of patients awaiting treatment/beds was shocking. I have nothing but admiration for the staff who were so helpful and all had smiles on their faces and couldn't be more helpful, kind & compassionate. Finally at 4am I was moved to Orthopaedics and although they didn't have a bay, I was given space and privacy on the edge of the ward. I don't care that I didn't have a proper bay, I had the treatment for my wound and it was amazing treatment at that. I had my surgery yesterday and stayed overnight. I saw the physiotherapists this morning and had a lesson on how to go up and down stairs on my crutches and then the Doctor saw me to say that surgery was successful. I'm incredibly tired after being woken at 1am by a lady shouting because she'd been put in the same area I had been the night before (maybe she hadn't visited majors prior to arrival on the ward or she too would have been grateful to have a quiet area to rest!) If every staff member decided they couldn't cope with this abuse any longer and quit, there'd be no NHS and you'd have to PAY for your treatment. I wonder how many non urgent cases would then attend as emergencies due to a higher cost out of hours?

Review titled Wonderful attention at all times
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Barry Raynsford - Posted on 04 August 2024
I attended the cardiology department for a procedure last week. All of the staff were fantastic and made the experience fast less daunting than I thought it would be. This could be because of their cheerful dispositions and willingness to do their best for you. I was home later that day and am recovering well. I find it hard to put into words my gratitude for their skill and dedication. Thank you seems totally inadequate.

I attended the Head and Neck outpatients today 3/6/24 and was impressed by all the staff who were friendly and efficient, but especially the young woman on reception who I thought was extremely professional in the way she dealt with patient enquiries. Nothing seemed too much bother.
