  1. Review titled exemplary service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I recently had open heart surgery at the Sussex Cardiology Centre. After a couple of false starts once I was admitted I had the surgery and was back home 4 days later. During my stay the League of Nations looking after me were, to a person, thoroughly professional, kind, caring and provided me with a sense of confidence and reassurance that I was in safe hands. A truly special group of people. It's such a traumatic experience but this team is so well drilled and strike the right tone at all times quickly moving through the gears when needed. Despite all the pressures and criticism the NHS faces, when you get down to the coal face the service is just fantastic. Thank you.

  2. Review titled Fantastic staff who are abused by the selfish few

    by Stridey373 - Posted on 20 August 2024

I was referred to Brighton and although they were expecting me, they'd had a run of emergencies before my arrival and had spent 6 hours in emergency surgery. As a result, I spent a total of 6 hours waiting to see a Doctor and then another 4.5 before I got a bed. Rather than complain, I am so grateful that I wasn't the one of the patients in a life threatening condition and would never complain at the length of time I had to wait unlike others! Whilst my wound was bleeding and dripping blood on the floor as had soaked through the dressing, a lady beside me was moaning because she'd caught a bug from her son and just wanted to be seen as she had a headache!! In those hours I did a lot of people watching and am absolutely astounded and upset at the treatment towards all NHS staff (not just Doctors and Nurses) and the feelings of entitlement of these 'patients that they have every right to behave in this manner! One common factor I noticed is that they appear to revel in having an audience and 'puff themselves up with a smug look on face because they feel everyone is in awe of their bullying of the Reception staff! I saw 4 separate patients arrested throughout that time!! One patient arrived by ambulance and was clearly under the influence of something and was aggressive, dramatic and time consuming of the paramedics. Eventually this patient was also arrested but the ambulance was out of action for an excessive amount of time! Whilst sitting in the treatment room having bloods etc with 5 other patients, the room was filled with the smoke of weed!! The windows were open but there are signs outside asking people not to smoke near the windows, however; their selfishness prevents them from complying! I was then moved to 'majors' and although no abuse was witnessed, the sheer quantity of patients awaiting treatment/beds was shocking. I have nothing but admiration for the staff who were so helpful and all had smiles on their faces and couldn't be more helpful, kind & compassionate. Finally at 4am I was moved to Orthopaedics and although they didn't have a bay, I was given space and privacy on the edge of the ward. I don't care that I didn't have a proper bay, I had the treatment for my wound and it was amazing treatment at that. I had my surgery yesterday and stayed overnight. I saw the physiotherapists this morning and had a lesson on how to go up and down stairs on my crutches and then the Doctor saw me to say that surgery was successful. I'm incredibly tired after being woken at 1am by a lady shouting because she'd been put in the same area I had been the night before (maybe she hadn't visited majors prior to arrival on the ward or she too would have been grateful to have a quiet area to rest!) If every staff member decided they couldn't cope with this abuse any longer and quit, there'd be no NHS and you'd have to PAY for your treatment. I wonder how many non urgent cases would then attend as emergencies due to a higher cost out of hours?

  3. Review titled Wonderful attention at all times

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Barry Raynsford - Posted on 04 August 2024

I attended the cardiology department for a procedure last week. All of the staff were fantastic and made the experience fast less daunting than I thought it would be. This could be because of their cheerful dispositions and willingness to do their best for you. I was home later that day and am recovering well. I find it hard to put into words my gratitude for their skill and dedication. Thank you seems totally inadequate.

  5. Review titled Great Department

I attended the Head and Neck outpatients today 3/6/24 and was impressed by all the staff who were friendly and efficient, but especially the young woman on reception who I thought was extremely professional in the way she dealt with patient enquiries. Nothing seemed too much bother.

It is impossible and frustrating this doesn't help my 85 year old mother she is upset already by all of this , how can a state of the art hospital not be able to help us

  8. Review titled Outstanding Nurse

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Gabrielle Schwarz - Posted on 06 July 2024

I was recently a patient in the Millenium Building, Level 9 West, Bay 8. Whilst I was on the ward there was a nurse who I want to commend as truly outstanding. She recently moved from Portsmouth to the Royal Sussex. Unfortunately I cannot name her in this review but she was absolutely exceptional - professional, attentive, caring, and efficient. In fact I cannot commend her highly enough. The Royal Sussex Hospital should be proud to have such an exceptional nurse!

  9. Review titled Unexpected Day Out in Kemp Town, Brighton

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by M Latham - Posted on 21 May 2024

Visited A & E with post-operative problems. I was seen immediately and thoroughly examined and treated. Excellent staff efficiency, empathy and enthusiasm, despite the rather grim architectural features of their working environment. Seen by about eight different practitioners, all of whom were brilliant and cheerful. Well done and thank you!

  10. Review titled Supportive and informed care delivered with kindness

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anne - Posted on 23 May 2024

My hemithyroidectomy under general anaesthetic was my first experience of major surgery since the birth of my daughter by C section over 30 years ago. The attention and care I received was excellent. While my main point of contact was Ear, Nose and Throat at RSCH, I would also like to thank the staff at the Princess Royal and the various departments involved in providing the barium swallow, CT scan and fine needle aspiration, consultations and overnight after care. Not to mention the surgery itself. If I do not mention any one by name it is because I do not want to single anyone out. You are all amazing.
