Treated for throat cancer over last 18 months. 1st rate treatment in all departments without any delays. Comunication outstanding. Staff could not be any friendlier. Very fortunate to have such a first rate hospital available.

Review titled Diabolical service at A& E
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Sulaiman - Posted on 07 February 2023
Was at A&e on 5/2/23 at 9.30pm, we travelled 40mins as our local hospital been closed down years ago. 111 advised us to take my newborn to A & E. we sat waiting from 9.45pm to 3am just over 5 hours and wasn’t seen, it was challenging managing a sick newborn on a chair! Reluctantly, we left the A&e after five hours as the nurse said they didn’t know how much longer it’s going to take and we had left other children home. we had no choce but to walk out of the A & E and seek medical care else where. I feel let down by Ruh, the N H S is not a free service all of us whom work pay towards it via our taxes. the Ruh's current services are disgraceful

Review titled William Budd Ward ( Cancer)
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 12 January 2023
I have to say all the care I have received from Consultants, Nurses and reception staff has all been exceptional. Recently I was admitted to the William Budd Ward for treatment. The care I received was brilliant. My only complaint is that the meals are generally cold, not what you need when recovering. Breakfast there was no jam/ marmalade for your toast. As for the drink tea, we’ll I wouldn’t call it tea, it was disappointing, it was hot but didn’t taste like tea at all. Not what you need when your ill.

Review titled Excellent care in children’s A&E Dept
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Nadine - Posted on 23 January 2023
We were referred to Royal United Hospital accident & emergency Dept by Trowbridge hospital after my daughter broke her arm. I cannot fault the care we received in the children’s dept, all the staff were amazing. Nurses, doctors, orthopaedic doctors. They even arranged for my daughter to have a blue cast on her arm (that was her choice). Thank you everyone.

Review titled Welcoming and reassuring
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Gabrielle Perkins - Posted on 12 January 2023
I have just visited the Royal United Hospital dermatology department. To be honest, I do not relish going to hospital appointments, I was also a bit concerned about the level of efficiency at this difficult time for the National Health Service. I need not have worried, I had excellent treatment from a very friendly approachable doctor. He examined me and was thoroughly reassuring. A consultant, I have met previously, who is wonderful, also examined me. They resolved my issues in a sympathetic professional way. I cannot praise them highly enough. Thank you Royal United Hospital.

Review titled Excellent in every way
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 11 December 2022
My dentist had referred me to the dentistry department to have a rather difficult broken half-tooth extraction, and while I cannot say that I relish the forthcoming experience I could not have asked for a better, more professional and more friendly service from all the staff I met. The two receptionists I spoke to were very warmly welcoming, and I was kept waiting for all of five minutes once I had checked in - wonderful! The dentist herself could not have been better - she explained why the extraction would be difficult (ugh!), and discussed exactly what she would need to do, giving me every opportunity to ask questions; I did not feel any pressure of time at all, and the whole consultation was relaxed (as fas as teeth problems can be!) and I felt entirely at ease with her and the nurse with her. Because I also have an ongoing heart condition she agreed that she would telephone me in a few weeks to confirm that I would be fit for the procedure to go ahead; dates were arranged by reception, and I received formal appointment letters within just four days. I was out within 40 minutes - mind you, I had dreadful problems when I first arrived, trying to find a parking space; this is not in any way a good thing about the hospital, especially as new buildings and new departments are growing, as will inevitably the number of cars........

Review titled Horrible A&E experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 December 2022
I was advised by 111 to take my asthmatic 18 year old son who was significantly struggling with the flu to A&E within the hour. I arrived to find 4+ hour wait time, no seats, and no masks or infection prevention measures. There were 9 ambulances waiting to drop off patients. This A&E is unsafe for vulnerable ill patients. When I expressed concern that my very poorly son would be standing for hours and exposed to further infection, I was advised I could sit in my car for 4 hours instead. It is 3 degrees outside and cold weather for an asthmatic with the flu is incredibly dangerous. I took my son home and I just hope I don't have to ring 999 later because we couldn't get the help he needs. Disgraceful. Why is 111 sending sick and clinically vulnerable people to a hospital that is not safe, well led, or caring?

Review titled Extreme care and treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jenny Hobbs - Posted on 09 January 2023
I phoned 999 from home on night of 29/12/22, finding breathing very difficult, very hot and aching all over. An ambulance arrived within 30 minutes. On arrival at Accident and Emergency department. I was seen quite soon and given a bed, oxygen and made comfortable. I remember little else until I was transferred to Waterhouse ward. I was nursed there until Monday,2/23, diagnosed with flu. I was treated with the greatest kind and loving care The ward was very busy but the nurses always had a kind and reassuring word and any request was answered quickly. I am on the road to recovery now but I am a very, very grateful patient. Three cheers for the Royal United Hospital.
