  1. Review titled Excellent service at Ultrasound

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Martin - Posted on 17 January 2025

As a follow-up to my Cystoscopy appointment last week, today Friday the 17th of January, I attended the Folkestone hospital for an ultrasound scan. I arrived at the hospital approximately 25 minutes before my appointment time and reported to reception and was shown where to wait. I barely had the chance to sit down when a lovely young lady with a name that sounded like an item of currency invited me into the examination room and confirmed that she would be doing an ultrasound scan of my bladder and kidneys. At this point I was invited to make myself comfortable on the couch and was asked to pull up my t-shirt to expose my tummy. She then applied the jelly and commenced to examine my full bladder. After this I visited the toilet and returned to the examination room for examination of a less full bladder and kidneys. Was quite interesting to watch this procedure on the screen. With this procedure completed, I left the building approximately 10 minutes before my appointment time! Thanks to the staff member I met today for her friendliness and professionalism. A credit to the service.

  2. Review titled Excellent service at urology

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Martin - Posted on 08 January 2025

I attended for a Cystoscopy at the Derry Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Folkestone today the 8th January having been referred by my GP due to traces of blood in urine detected at a workplace medical examination. The staff I encountered were nothing less than professional. The receptionist took my details and escorted me to the waiting area. The nurse then reconfirmed my details and took me into the examination room. Then the doctor explained what he would be doing. Then its drop my trousers and boxers, up on to the couch, a numbing gel is applied and the camera goes in. I was told that nothing adverse was found and I could get dressed. Then as a bonus, he says "I need to check your prostate" so again I drop my trousers and boxers and a finger goes in the rear end, again nothing adverse here. He did advise that he would like me to have an ultrasound examination and this would be arranged in due course. I did not record the time the process took however there was no excessive sitting around waiting anywhere. In short I would like to say that I found the cystoscopy process to be perhaps slightly uncomfortable and slightly embarrassing but certainly not painful and I'm sure that the doctors and nurses doing it have seen it all before. If anyone reading this is referred for this procedure please do not worry unduly, it is quite quick and there is plenty of information online. The staff will do their best to answer any questions. In short I would like to thank all the staff I encountered on my visit for their professionalism, friendliness and support. Perhaps best of all for me this was at the hospital less than 1 hours walk from my front door, so no driving, no parking, no public transport!

I was seen by nurse practitioner and she was brilliant - knowledgeable, professional and very kind. All other staff including reception, security and the triage were excellent and I was seen very quickly. Thank you for treating me with respect and care.

  5. Review titled Terrible triage but fantastic nurse appt

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 February 2024

I went to the walk in clinic on the morning of 11th feb 2024 with a sudden escalation of symptoms from v recently diagnosed rosacea. When I saw the nurse for triage, she said I couldn’t be seen as it is a chronic condition and I have other autoimmune conditions and as I was visiting family i should wait to see my GP when I get home. Quite frankly disgusted as I hadn’t slept for several nights from the itching and was desperate for a prescription antibiotic. She offered me an appt the next day which she said she shouldn’t really do- I went back early on 12th feb and arrived v early but waited early in the queue. I could hear the receptionist saying I wasn’t there on the phone but I was 15 mins early just in the queue! Finally I saw a nurse (as there were no doctors in the building) and she was fantastic. She prescribed me the antibiotic I needed and apologised for me not having been seen (and having a wasted journey) the day before, especially as this was an acute flare up and not just a chronic condition! Thanks to that brilliant nurse for seeing me. But not thanks to the terrible nurse on triage the day before!

  7. Review titled Rude and unprofessional nurse

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by R R Nair - Posted on 10 December 2023

I visited Royal Victoria Hospital, Folkestone on 09th December around 15:15 for my wife who was having high fever, headache and ear pain for the last few days. Our gp couldn’t give us an appointment, so went there as nhs website was showing Royal Victoria as the nearest utc. When we reached there, receptionist registered us and asked us to wait in the waiting area to be seen by a doctor. We waited there for more than an hour when a nurse called my wife. This nurse had no intention or interest to hear us, she was so rude and unfriendly, told us she doesn’t have the time to talk to us and we should go to a&e. My wife was in so much discomfort, but this nurse was not at all bothered and simply told us she can’t give an appointment or help. There are so many nice nurses and staff at east Kent hospitals, but people like this ruin their names as well. We will never go to this hospital again.

  9. Review titled Compassionate and helpful

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 November 2023

Arrived upset after being turned away by my doctor and told to go to the walk in centre. Was greeted immediately at reception despite it being 5.30pm on a Friday night. I was triaged by the nurse, who was lovely and I was so grateful for her compassion when I got upset and needed a minute. She booked me in with the doctor and I only waited 40 minutes (which is crazy as I knew how busy they were) The doctor was just as lovely and helpful. He answered my worries and reassured me which was very needed after the last week. I am very grateful to all working this evening (17th) Thank you all for your hard work. I've visited the walk in twice in the last 6 months and both times the service has been great and the team there are great.
