  1. Review titled Impeccable care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by C Davies - Posted on 07 July 2023

I really couldn’t fault the process from arriving with a minor bite injury and being seen initially incredibly quickly, followed by swift treatment such that the whole visit lasted around two hours max. Many thanks to all of the staff at this unit who are delivering impeccable care and service to the community.

  3. Review titled Lovely doctor, terrible service

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 29 July 2023

I attended a & e on Friday evening with my 8 year old. Details was taken and I was told to wait for a GP this was at 8.45pm. The children’s area was full, there was drug addicts on the floor asleep and a lot of unkempt people in there. The general waiting room was full. We sat outside to avoid the carnage inside. As it got colder I came back inside and requested several times that we be moved to the panda unit as it was Friday night and it was getting rowdy. My poor 8 year old was in pain and nervous at the situation in the waiting room. Police started turning up with drunken people and I kept being told ‘you are next’. We wasn’t seen until 11pm! I am unhappy at the unhelpful receptionist that refused to let us move out of that waiting room and the very long wait time for a child in pain. When we did see the doctor she was absolutely fantastic and a credit to the NHS. I understand the NHS is stretched but to leave a 8 year old in that disgusting waiting room with the chaos is not on. I kept seeing children being ushered off to panda but we remained with the drug addicts and drunks.

  4. Review titled Extreme pain in the night with no help available

Rated 1 star out of 5

I would have done anything to stop my relative from being in extreme pain overnight last night in the major trauma unit, but there's nothing I can do from overseas. He had his neck broken in three places a few days ago, was given painkillers at 8p, woke up at 1am in agony, couldn't move and couldn't contact anyone because he is in a head and back brace. How much effort and time can it take to administer a pain killer and how can this happen in a hospital?

  6. Review titled Intestinal Failure Unit = Life savers

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 29 July 2023

This specialist unit is one of the best wards I have ever been on. The nurses, consultants, dieticians, health care assistants, house keepers, physio therapists, student nurses and cleaning team all strive to keep their patients save, and explore nessary avenues to improve their patients health. The rooms and bays were always spotless and someone would always have 2 or 3 minutes to chat making it a much more personal experience. I found myself well informed about my condition and have now everything put in place to give me the best chance of survival and the option of leading a much better life than before. Things can take some time on this ward due to the complex nature of patients effected by Intestinal Failure however the day room has a treadmill, there is a patient kitchen as well as a free laundry room including a dryer so that patients can keep as independent and occupied as possible. The ward staff all deserve a star each for their gentle help and guidance, empathy and kindness whilst doing their job to the best of their abilities. I am grateful for having met some lovely people and for giving me the chance to get better. Without the team on this ward, this wouldn't have been possible and I will forever be grateful for everything they have done for me and for saving my life!!!

  7. Review titled Dismissed and treated as an inconvenience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 July 2023

I went in with a recurring ankle injury having had a history of leg problems in a lot of pain. I appreciate this is a low priority and had no problem waiting as long as it took but having put up with it for several weeks I needed to get it checked out. I was told in no uncertain terms I'm "not injured" offered painkillers and banished. The person taking notes worded my injury as dismissively as possible to give the consultant an easy way to dismiss me. It's treatment like this that make people not want to come to hospitals and why people only get seen once it is really severe.

  8. Review titled Biopsy results

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by John Edwards - Posted on 15 August 2023

I have been waiting nearly 6 weeks for test results. We have tried phoning the department but after waiting over three quarters of an hour from 15th in the queue only to be cut off when I reached number 2 in the queue. This has happened three times and I can only assume that it is done on purpose. The medical treatment has been exemplary but the follow up has been poor

  9. Review titled The worst A&E I have ever been to

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 July 2023

    - My wife waited 10 hours to be seen because of the pain in her heart. She has an underlining heart issue. We came in at 9pm and eventually left at 7am. - I told the nurse that my wife is profoundly deaf so I will be helping her. When we saw the doctor after 9 hours, he rudely asked if I am the patient or my wife is? Disgraceful. He had a demeanor where he didn't want to help or sound helpful. He sounded like he was reading off scripted questions and not genuinely asking them. - This doctor suggested she has a paracetamol despite her being in great pain. We explained we waited 10 hours to be told to put a paracetamol on it? I explained she isn't allowed to have it because she is on certain medication. He didn't seem to understand this and we were on the verge of being discharged. He went to get magnesium meds before we went. - Before we were discharged, I called my wife's specialist hospital to complain about the A&E and what we were being discharged for. 2 doctors overheard my conversation and asked me why I am calling the specialist hospital? I said you're discharging my wife and she is still in great pain. He said they're calling the specialist hospital now too (coincidence). I said that doctor never told us this and were on the verge if being discharged and he's gone to get magnesium medication. - We were asked to wait again and my wife could no longer take it because she was in distress and pain, she wanted to leave. When we left, that doctor called saying her specialist hospital suggested she stays in for 24 hours to be monitored. I initially agreed to bring her back but at that point, my wife refused to step foot back in that place again. She would rather suffer than be around doctors who don't care or listen. I called the A&E back to say my wife won't be coming back. I was greeted with a delightful response of "Okay". The nurse never asked why or show empathy. - In all this time, we had been respectful and courteous. My wife is still in great pain and we're now looking at finding ways of self treatment. We will never step foot in that A&E again (maybe to the delight of the doctors working there so well done for achieving this)
