  1. Review titled Very Efficient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julie Robinson - Posted on 17 January 2023

After having a fall whilst out walking and landing face first on solid frosty ground, I attended the A&E Department with pain and discomfort in my jaw. I was seen within half an hour by a nurse who was very helpful and informative and undertook a thorough examination. She sent me through for X-ray and, again, I was seen swiftly by a lovely radiographer. Back to A&E to see the nurse again once the x-ray results were received. Nothing broken, just soft tissue damage, but the service I received was second to none and put my mind at rest. The whole experience took just over 1 hour 45 minutes which I was not expecting! I thought I'd probably be there for the long-haul! All staff were very friendly. Well done SGH.

  2. Review titled A&E and Fracture Clinic

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Fiona - Posted on 07 January 2023

I attended a&e with my 4year old on New Years Eve. The waiting room was full but we only had a short wait before seeing the traige nurse. She was so wonderful with my son and clear with us regarding possible diagnosis and next steps. Next we went to X-Ray- no-one else was there so we had a very short wait. The radiographer was an amazing young woman who was incredibly child friendly and made my son feel comfortable. Back to a&e and back to the nurse to confirm a broken humerus. Again she was clear with next steps and got my son some pain relief promptly. The Orthopedic doctor then spoke with us - he clearly could see my son was nervous and did not push any questions/ examination that my son wasn't comfortable with. He came to find us in the children's waiting room to give us our appointment letter and his best wishes. Next we had to go back to see the nurses to have a temporary pot fitted, again they were so lovely with my son and even found a lolly and present for him. Friday 6th we had to visit the Fracture Clinic - I was a little lost and wonderful volunteer directed me. Although we had a wait the staff again were so welcoming and the Doctor very clear regarding what would happen. The plaster room staff and health care assistant were great at chatting away to my son whilst he got repotted. Then we went on to X-Ray where again, the staff member was brilliant at talking to my son and calming him. The same staff member from new years eve happened to come into he room and remembered my son and had a lovely quick chat with him. When trying to find the restaurant, two different members of hospital staff stopped and asked if I was ok and directed me in the right way. Overall I cannot fault our experience of Scunthorpe hospital - all staff members were friendly, efficient and did their jobs to a high standard. Thank you for making our first emergency with our son a positive one.

  3. Review titled On its knees

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Adrian - Posted on 25 January 2023

GP wrote to them regarding two different issues. Got a letter about a week later saying they will be in touch but with a 3 month window. It didn't say what issue it was regarding. I called the number on the letter which was wrong. Got passed literally around to 5 different people. Got to the right person who clarified what issue it was pertaining, & who said would you like an appointment which was odd to say the least? I said yes please. She said tomorrow evening? I said yes please and booked it. The next day & 1 hour before the appointment I get a phone call asking if they had cancelled it, and I said no. They said well the doctor has left! Eventually said they would make another appointment with me, but by telephone this time, but couldn't tell me when or how long I would have to wait. Sheer apathy. This. This is why the place is on its knees. I am still waiting to hear about the 2nd issue and its been a month without any contact. If I had another hospital I would definitely go there instead

  4. Review titled Absolutely disgusting

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 August 2024

This past year or so I have been in and out of a+e with Crohn’s disease and gallstones the first couple times I went with extreme pain they was very helpful did everything they needed to then after a while every time I came to a+e I was screaming in pain because they never did anything about my problems not even referring me else were they was shutting the door to keep my quite, shouting at me because I’m “over reacting” I don’t need help it’s just stress causing it, I can’t have these problems at a young age (16) they kept me in a room for 4 days no pain medication no tests no one checking on me I passed out multiple times and the nurses just looked at me, it then took them a year to do my surgery to take my gallbladder out even though I got told I will be in around July 2023 it all started in January 2023 I had my surgery end of January 2024, I had a lot of complications and ended up in a+e a couple days after my surgery and I was ignored once again they put me in fit to sit while it was screaming and throwing up, one of the doctors came to see me and she said she isn’t going to do anything to help me because it’s just stress and I am drug seeking after a while and I told her I’m reporting her she threw her clip board at me and ripped the curtain open and stormed off shouting at me, my mum came out to speak to them and say it’s absolutely disgusting how she treated me, she then came back and gave me medication and got me the scans I needed, it’s been 1year and 8 months since this started I am finally on the right medication to help me, but I still have flares and if I go to a+e I still get ignored I am screaming in pain and every single person in there before me and after me gets seen I don’t even go to triage I am just left there, now even if I’m in extreme pain or have any other problems I stay home and try control the pain cause I feel my family help me more than the hospital do or I go to hull or Grimsby it’s my only other option, I do not recommend Scunthorpe general hospital at all and never will if I get treated like this who else does no one deserves to be treated like that and I would hate to see someone else to go through what I went through.

Having used the NHS services at various hospitals, my experience at scunthorpe emergency department could not have been any better. Lovely clean building, amazing staff. It is a one stop shop, i don't see how it could be improved. Its nice to see such a nice environment for the staff to work in. Thankyou to all the staff who cared for me.

So after my last review I got told here send us an email will get in contact so I sent an email and waited ..... It's been another 5 weeks not only that but my last review was deleted .... Why first I'd like to know I wasent rude or posted inappropriate language but yet I got censored ? Right .... And second why tell me your going to reply if your not going to ? Why lie why not just tell me no we aren't going to help you go back to your consistent pain with the broken bone we know you have had for over 3 months now and still haven't done a thing .... Just confuses me to how you lot need more money yet you can't even smile at patients ...... Needs scrapping or looking at properly

  9. Review titled Outstanding.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Susan Williams - Posted on 03 January 2023

I attended Ward 19 this morning for a pre-assessment appointment. I had to sit outside the ward prior to being called in and I was so delighted to find many of the staff passing me took the time and trouble to say good morning. The first half of my pre-assessment was undertaken by a lovely young nurse who put me at ease beautifully. I then had to wait outside in the corridor again before the second part. I was opposite the Childrens' Out Patient department. A member of staff from this unit asked me if I was OK and would I like a blanket. How thoughtful. Second part of the pre-assessment was carried out by a lovely nurse who went over things with me very thoroughly. 1 hour 15 minutes later I was making my exit armed with very helpful booklets regarding the procedure that I am due to have on the 18th January. I couldn't have asked for more this morning. I felt valued and would like to thank everyone.

  10. Review titled Ward 17 Respiratory

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 31 December 2022

Although all staff on this ward are fabulous I was shocked today when visiting a relative to see one nurse and all HCAs with their masks under their chins. This is a respiratory ward and therefore all patients are vulnerable to airborne viruses, let alone elderly visitors going into the ward. Does not set a good example for visitors when staff don’t follow the rules.
