Review titled Ambulatory day care unit
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Karen Ferris - Posted on 09 October 2023
I was seen at this hospital in the Ambulatory day case unit for an intravenous infusion of anti-viral medication for the treatment of a Covid infection. The staff went above and beyond what was expected. They were extremely proficient and were offering me a service outside of their normal operating hours. The nurse-in-charge told me that they were opening on a Sunday because they didn’t have enough slots to get me seen Monday - Friday. ( this treatment must be administered within 5 days of a positive covid test). My appointment was 10 o’clock, but I was early. I followed the instructions to come to the staff entrance, was greeted by nurse in charge shown to a private room and my treatment organised. Despite the poor quality of the building, in which this unit is housed (porter cabin smelled of damp) the care I received was exemplary. My nurse was knowledgeable, reassuring, extremely competent. I would not hesitate to highly recommend anyone offered this service to use it. My intravenous cannula was quickly sited by my nurse, and was not painful. The infusion was easy and all was completed in about 40 minutes. The staff kindly allowed me to stay in the room to wait for my lift home. Otherwise I would have had to sit in the rain. Overall, and finally, I should like to commend these staff. I could not praise them more highly. They go above and beyond what is necessary, in order to provide an Outstanding service to the population of Somerset. Thank you very much.

Review titled Always closed for emergency walk in !
Rated 1 star out of 5

For the 3rd time I’ve gone here for emergency help and care and for a 3rd time the site says open but you get there and it’s closed the reception is rude and for a second time I got told can you not read the sign it is closed go to Glastonbury!! Completely rude and quite frankly annoying in an emergency! If you’re closed say so on the site so we don’t waste our time and go straight to Glastonbury and maybe the receptionists can learn some compassion and customer service!

Hello I am very sorry to hear of your experience with the Shepton Mallet MIU closures a. Currently Shepton MIU is open on Monday Wednesdays and Fridays with last patient booked in at 1430. Unfortunately our Emergency Nurse Practitioners are very understaffed and despite our best efforts we struggle to recruit to this highly skilled part of our workforce which is why the difficult decision was made to reduce the service in the short term. If this is then compounded by short notice sickness it is difficult to backfill and the service has to be closed. When this happens we try to communicate as fully as possible to the public via our communications department, I am sorry that we failed to so on this occasion. If you require our services in the future I encourage you call West Mendip on 01458 836454 who will be able to advice you which units are open. The Somerset Foundation Trust website has the most accurate information regarding opening times and is the only website we have control over. There are several websites not related I am sorry I cannot respond to your comments relating to the attitude of the reception staff as I do not manage that service but I know that the person who does is aware of your post and is planning to respond. Again on behalf of the service I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Review titled Rude Receptionist
Rated 3 stars out of 5

Attended The Community Hospital this Sunday evening to be greeted by the Receptionist on duty to be told that I could only been seen with an appointment by calling 111 even though the website states that you can turn up and been seen. The receptionist was quite abrupt when I approached her again with more questions as I was left very confused by our first meeting. The whole experience was very upsetting and I came away from there feeling very confused and frustrated and left in tremendous pain as I was unseen and untreated.

Thank you to the receptionist and doctor on duty today. Excellent and friendly service on Christmas Eve. The receptionist’s quick thinking helped my 4yo son being diagnosed with dehydration.
