Review titled Sadly lacking
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Loraine Shaw - Posted on 11 August 2024
Background info….. had knee replacement a year ago which is still causing major problems, been hospitalised at least 3 times & treatment(?) still ongoing. I have frequent falls at home due to knee locking & ‘giving way’. I live on my own. Check in at reception, told at least 4 hour wait. Surprised, as only 3 other patients waiting, but ok. Triaged within 5 minutes, needed X-ray on hand & knee as had another fall at home. Triage nurse told me that she would take form round to X-ray as I was in such pain and mobility issues. Sat in waiting area for 1 hour 25mins before I realised nurse hadn’t given form in. Told it didn’t matter as clinicians would have realised and I wouldn’t have missed my slot.? Up until I eventually saw a clinician I was not asked if I needed any pain relief, and no apology given for the unacceptable delay. I understand if it was busy, but during my time in the unit I saw maybe a total of 5 patients seen. It was deserted by the time I left, not a single patient. Not a good experience, will try very hard not to use them again, felt like I was an inconvenience to them.

Review titled A saddened patient
by A saddened NHS patient - Posted on 04 June 2024
I’ve always held the Memorial Hospital in very high regard. Over the years me and my family have always had the very best of care and treatment. In fact the whole family has had the best treatment over the years from all local NHS hospitals. Now, for the first time, my glowing view of NHS staff has been tarnished for ever. Having been directed by a fully qualified NHS doctor to visit the Memorial for treatment, I arrived with a friend and booked in with the cheerful, helpful reception staff. After over an hour and a half wait I was summoned. I won’t complain about the waiting time. It happens, not a big deal. We met the first medical worker. A little prickly in their manner, they suggested there was no need for the treatment suggested by a fully qualified NHS doctor. They referred me to a second medical worker. I’m not complaining about the “prickly” manner. We all have an off day. We arrived at the second room and were treated like stupid dim children being scolded by an irritable, overbearing head teacher. How dare we even breathe in the rarified air of this sacred space. We were told, in no uncertain terms, we were wasting everyone’s time. I mentioned we were referred by a fully qualified NHS doctor. We were overruled in a most insulting way. We left. A thoroughly wasted morning. Our treatment was just utterly disgraceful. I feel truly sad to state this.

Review titled A lesson to all hospitals
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Alan - Posted on 12 June 2024
Polite and welcoming smiles from reception, then at orthopaedics, excellent manner from the Doctor and his nurse, more smiles at Xray. Starting to think I was in a private hospital by mistake. This is a lesson to all hospitals, does not matter how busy or stressed, there is always room for politeness and a smile. It makes a huge difference. Thanks to all.

Review titled Horrible services
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Meena - Posted on 23 April 2024
Kept me waiting for 2 hours plus to get a wound dressing. When I went up to check with reception they said they don’t know how long I should wait. I was called in and then back out saying oh we will see if we find someone free to help you. Many patients came after me and got checked while I am still waiting. I understand that there might be overload but there should be limit on how long one should be kept on wait. I drove from other end and now missed half day work. And don’t even know if this will be even enough to get called in. Never visiting again.

Review titled Excellent service

All staff very friendly. I was booked in quickly. Had to wait to be seen by the Senior Nurse Practitioner but expected to wait on a Friday morning and was not an unacceptable length of time. She was amazing, very concerned and sympathetic. I was taken straight for an x ray and, after another short wait, was back with the Senior Nurse Practitioner for a diagnosis, medical advice and discharge. Every member of staff was thoughtful and helpful. Thank you receptionist, Senior Nurse Practitioner and the x ray team - all of you are wonderful.

Review titled Shocking service

My partner went to get a new X-ray done after the swelling on his hand had gone down after an accident and was refused care. He was made to wait over half an hour to be told they would not X-ray his hand and sent him on his way. He complained about the pain and discomfort and was not given any advice or help. Absolutely appalling.

Review titled Extremely poor care and lack of knowledge
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 25 August 2023
Department was operating on an immediate assessment basis but no treatment. This is not safe or effective. I went there with shoulder pain following a seizure and told this was chronic and should contact my neurologist due to my ‘fit’ and pain. I was advised I needed to see a doctor and was told that no I couldn’t have an x ray to check if my shoulder was in place as it dislocates / subluxes regularly and the department was at full capacity. My shoulder went back into place onto the way home and I will not be visiting this department again, also comments made were quite offensive. Education is needed on injuries that occur from seizures.
