Review titled Blood test - rude nurse
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 25 March 2025
I had my blood tests done today 25/03/2025. I had a consultation with my GP and due to nature of my medical problem, urgent blood tests were required, normally these would be done at the surgery bur no nurse was in. I was instructed to go to Solihull Hospital for the blood tests to be done asap. So I collected my paperwork and headed down. When I got seen by the nurse who was doing blood tests, she had a attitude and started in a aggressive manner telling me off for not having my tests done at my gp and she would refuse me, i tried to explain the reason why but she was just so rude. I was already very nervous to having blood taken and not good with needles. She could have told me the same thing in a nice and polite manner. She banged my paper on the table and then proceeded to take my blood, once she was done, she started telling me again for not having my tests done at my gp’s. I apologised and explained everything again the reason why i couldn't. I was worried about my medical condition and nervous with blood tests, abit of niceness and empathy and understanding could have helped. I remained calm and polite despite her rudeness and thanked her for her time! Maybe she needs to learn some manners. Also I will be putting in an official complaint against her

I have been to the Endoscopy dept twice in a short space of time for procedures. I was very anxious but every member of staff were the best and I felt so cared for and in safe hands. They were very kind and respectful. Unfortunately, I have to undergo more procedures but at least I feel I'm in the best hands.

Review titled Not great

My son has been a patient under the orthodontist for the past 3 years. Throughout his treatment we have struggled to contact the department and been left frustrated by the care received. My main issue is that he was due to have an appointment in November last year but this was cancelled as the orthodontist was on holiday throughout November, the appointment was rescheduled to December. This appointment was cancelled because of sickness and I was told there would not be any other appointments available until February 2025. On the day of the appointment we arrived for his appointment 10 mins early, his appointment was scheduled for 9.00 and we waited until the orthodontist finally arrived at 9.10. At the end of the appointment I was informed that he had been unable to complete the work planned, we would need to go home and return the following week to collect a retainer, as the person who makes it was not available on the day of the appointment. I was told to expect a call to let me know if we should attend the hospital a 5 days later. No call again. I have tried to contact the department but there is no answer and calls do not seem to be returned. I was concerned that my son may have over corrected following his 3 extra months of active treatment. I have not been reassured throughout his treatment and I feel that the communication with patients and their families has been less than ideal. For info, Orthodontist/max fax does not appear on the list of specialties on the feedback page so I was unable to select anything.

Review titled 5 Star Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Michael Foulkes - Posted on 26 February 2025
I visited the hospital on Monday 25th Feb. for a CT scan. Firstly, parking was very easy which was a surprise. I arrived more than an hour before my appointment time as I didn’t know how easy it would be to find the hospital or to park but I need not have worried. I checked into the Radiology dept. an hour and 10 mins before my appointment time and to my surprise within 5 mins a member of staff brought me a questionnaire to complete. About 10 mins after that a nurse appeared to collect me to go and prepare for the scan which included the insertion of a cannula into my arm. The nurse was extremely polite and reassuring and within a few more minutes I was having the scan. I had a 10 minute wait after the scan before the cannula was removed by another very polite and efficient nurse and within a few more minutes I was on my way home shortly before my actual appointment time with the scan done. I cannot praise the attitude, efficiency and politeness of the staff enough, they were an absolute credit to the NHS and they made my visit a pleasure. I would recommend this hospital to anyone if you have a choice for your treatment. 5 stars to the Solihull staff for making my visit so easy and pleasant, a massive thank you!

My 111 call at 12.00 received an instant response and an immediate referral to Solihull Urgency Clinic with an appointment at 3.00. A Consultant saw me at 3.10 and diagnosed my breathing problem as whirring virus and prescribed an inhaler which I collected from my local Balsall Common Pharmacy at 3.45 Brilliant service

They Managed my daughters extreme anxiety paranoia and other mental health issues. Both myself and my daughter have said she would not have developed such severe anxiety issues if she had been treated with the care and understanding during visits to other hospitals Thank you the whole hospital especially ward 16 and all the people working there provided a caring and helpful environment

Review titled Unsatisfactory arrangements for car parking
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by John Fontaine - Posted on 16 December 2024
On Monday 16 December I took a relative for an appointment at the Urology department. I arrived at about 11.00am and entered the main car park. The barriers were up and no tickets were being issued. After the appointment, on enquiring at the security office I was told that I would have to queue at the one available office, to pay and receive a ticket to exit. There were at least 50 people in the queue, stretching across the car park and exit road. I had to queue for 20 minutes, in bad weather, to receive a ticket. This is unacceptable. I have never been to Solihull Hospital before, but I hope that the system is being addressed urgently. I have visited other hospitals where a “pay on exit” system operates effectively, entering the car registration which was scanned by camera on entry, paying the required fee, and receiving a ticket to exit. Please add this to what must be a large number of complaints, in the hope that the parking ticket issue can be remedied as soon as possible. There were many patients and visitors in the queue, having a very unpleasant experience.

Review titled Brilliant staff

I visited the Women's Health department at Solihull hospital today (18/12) for a hysteroscopy. Having worked as a HCA in another hospital in the same department I was fully aware of the procedure and how some women find it difficult to go through. I built myself up to expect a lot of pain and discomfort but I really shouldn't have worried. The doctor and HCA were really chatty and made me feel as comfortable as possible. There was a little discomfort, as expected but it was not what I had built it up to be. I just wanted to say thank you to the team and hope you all have a lovely Christmas! Louise.

Review titled Fantastic service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 24 December 2024
I took my son to the UTC at Solihull hospital. We were seen quickly. The waiting area was spotless and comfortable. The reception team were pleasant enough, not very friendly but they literally just did there job without any pleasantries, which was fine because the rest of the experience was fantastic. The HCA 'D' was lovely. She noticed my sons lanyard showing he was autistic and spoke to him a way that was befitting for him. She made him feel very comfortable. The ANP 'A' was so nice. She explained everything, sent us for an x ray and we seen again really quickly She explained the x ray to my son and the plan of treatment and care for his broken finger. The whole experience was really smooth and didnt take long at all. The environment was spotless and clean. What a refreshing change. Thank you so much
