  1. Review titled Absolutely amazing surgical pathway

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Nikki - Posted on 09 January 2024

It’s a stressful thought having to take your child for an operation, but the John Atwell ward/team (including theatre staff/post op staff) have got the paediatric pathway down to a tee. Everything happened smoothly and all involved were sooo friendly and informative. They really set my mind at the ease knowing they were truly going to look after my child.

  2. Review titled First rate technical & people skills

Rated 5 stars out of 5

After seeing my Consultant a week ago at Lymington, I joined the waiting list for a Heart Mri, to inform his decision on whether I needed a Pacemaker or Icd Defibrillator. At 18.30 last Friday evening I had a call from the Superintendent Radiologist at Southampton, offering a scan the following afternoon,as they had a cancellation. I racked up at 13.30 and proceeded with my Scan. I cannot speak too highly of the two Radiologists - welcoming, caring, skilfully completing the process. They were willing to discuss technical points with me. Your work that afternoon will impact on how my heart performs for the rest of my life. I thank you from the bottom of my (dissynchronous) heart.

  4. Review titled Communication problems

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Julian Davies - Posted on 29 November 2023

My sister was admitted to the catheter lab for a lung operation. I rang the post op ward number 4 times to get through. I was told she was still in recovery. I went through the main switchboard to the catheter lab. They could not give me any information because the'coordinator' had gone home, did not know where she was. Suggested ringing the ward again in a couple more hours. Complete lack of information, very poor communication skills and very inefficient system to keep track of patients.

  5. Review titled My care package

    by defenderdw69 - Posted on 02 December 2023

I am posting this on behalf of my wife. Since breaking my hip and two ribs in mid October this year I have been receiving ongoing treatment from the New Milton Community Nursing Team, each member of the team has been very supportive taking the time to explain details of all the care they were dispensing. This left me feeling more assured with any progress. Keep up the good work and thank God for the NHS. Being a joint effort I would also like to thank the following; 911 Ambulance team, admittance to the Southampton hospital, surgery dept, aftercare, discharge, care in the Community Team, Arnwood GP Practice New Milton, Kamsons Pharmacy New Milton. All contributed to my excellent treatment and I am now well on my way to a recovery.

  6. Review titled Exceedingly long wait

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 November 2023

Having been referred here, I am now waiting for over 6 months to see the consultant for the first time and from speaking to staff, this is commonplace in the department. Perhaps the management should look to supporting their clinical staff and provide what clinical staff need in order to provide a manageable service wherein patients are not left waiting a stressful and uncontrolled time just to have a first consultation, without driving the clinical staff into the ground. It must be one of the worst waiting times.

  7. Review titled Really good treatment.....but

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs Sheila Rice - Posted on 04 September 2023

Went to A&E for what turned out to be a small kidney stone. From the time I got onto the assessment ward, the process was quite fast and pain killers administered very quickly. Moved to another ward. to have bloods, and arrangement for CT scan and Chest X-Ray which went very smoothly. This all took a while and I was eventually moved to a ward to wait for results. This, I think, could have been dealt with better. Nurses excellent and attentive. Around 8pmish a nurse came round and took temperature and blood pressure and said she was doing it then so I could be released when the results were in. An hour after that, a doctor came and said she'd just pop over and look at the X-Ray and come straight back. Two hours later a nurse came to check I was okay and I said I was still waiting for the results and explained what the doctor had said. She was surprised and said she'd chase them up as she wanted to get me to the ward I'd be staying in as soon as possible to make me comfortable. I was surprised that staying over night was mentioned and said I wouldn't be doing that and I wanted to go home. At this point my reaction to do this was made prior to knowing what the results were. She apologised that someone hadn't come to explain earlier and said she'd get another doctor to come down immediately to give the results of the days tests and what the plan was. Very soon after, gave a very the full explantion of why I needed to stay in, and said it in 'no uncertain terms'. I, of course, had no problem with this and stayed in for the rest of the checks to be done throughout the morning of the next day, and release early afternoon. I could see how busy all the staff are, from the time I arrived to the time I left, but do wonder if there was a way I could have been told much earlier in the evening, that I'd be staying overnight. My son had been with me all day and could have been sent home a lot sooner than midnight, had this been the case. Overall, everything but this area was brilliant. The staff calm and kind, and the facilities and food excellent. I hope there's a way this small issue of letting a patient know they'll be staying over night, earlier, rather than the last minute, might be something the department involved, could address. All in all, I'd always recommend, having had a couple of trips to A&E over the years, as they've always been really good. Thank you for what you do, and none of you get paid enough.

  9. Review titled Exemplary care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Carol - Posted on 22 August 2023

My father was admitted being very ill with covid and lots of underlying conditions. We knew he wouldn’t survive. He was placed in the isolation ward and the care and attention he and us as a family received was second to none. The respect, caring, diligence, compassion, humanity displayed by all staff, including the cleaners, was simply outstanding. We were initially concerned about him being admitted as we’d have preferred he passed away at home, and this was an option that we had. However on balance we decided to keep him in the hospital and we definitely made the right choice. He was treated with dignity and respect at all times. I cannot praise this hospital enough and want to say thank you to everyone involved in my father’s care.

  10. Review titled Amazing

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Olivia - Posted on 22 August 2023

I recently had Nuss bar surgery and I want to thank everyone involved. From the anaesthesia team, the surgery team, the doctors and nurses on the children’s ward even the physio. They gave me absolute care and attention, they made me feel comfortable and okay. I was unable to handle the pain and when I was in the second part of recovery before going to the childrens ward the nurses who were with me stayed longer than they should’ve because they wanted to help me and stay with me through the pain. Thank you to everyone, you made a scary experience into one of the best things ever, they way nurses who had seen me on day one saw me improve and got so excited for me made me happy. The way they comforted me when I made them aware that my cannula was hurting me and they decided to take it because it was kinked and unsafe to put back In. The physio who pushed me despite me hatred, thank you for putting up with me and my sass towards you guys. Everyone has made this an unforgettable experience and I can’t thank you enough
