  1. Review titled Poor communication

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 July 2024

There were many incidences of lack of or poor communication during our visit to the John Atwell Day Ward. The signage at the hospital was unclear and we had to ask several staff for directions to the ward, many lifts were out of action. We weren’t told where to wait when my daughter was in her surgery. My husband and I were sat in a corridor when someone told us there was a place to wait. When I was shown out after my daughter was put under anaesthetic the nurse didn’t know where to take me, took me to the wrong floor and didn’t understand what I was saying. I had to call my husband for help. We didn’t feel we had all the information we needed prior to the surgery, we called the hospital and asked about my daughter’s blood pressure medication- a nurse on the ward told us she should take it. On the day, we were told by the anaesthetist that his advice would have been not to give it to her. I called the ward for advice on after care and was spoken to rudely by a nurse who was dismissive and said “you’ll be told on the day”. When I explained I wanted to try and prepare my daughter for potentially wearing an eye patch or perhaps not being able to wear her glasses- the nurse said she didn’t really know. When my daughter’s surgery was finished, we were told to go to a different level to the recovery area we were shown. When we asked at the recovery area we were shown a very rude, sour faced woman asked why we were there and if we’d been told to come. She rudely told us that eye surgery is on another level- no one had shown us this area before the surgery and it was confusing. It’s unfortunate that the ward itself is part waiting room and part ward, it felt busy and chaotic and we were directed to wait in a play area instead.

  2. Review titled Wonderful Nurses

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs R Geddes - Posted on 16 July 2024

I spent 2 days in the lovely new Ward E12. The Nurses day time and night time were lovely, also those in the Endoscopy Ward. Not forgetting the very patient Dr who did the procedure. I was very stressed and he took the time to reassure me. Thank to you all.

  4. Review titled Shocking, Simply Shocking!

Rated 1 star out of 5

14.5 hours on a trolley in a corridor, without even being offered water. Toilets filthy and not fit for purpose. Staff rude and lacked compassion. Reception prepared to share confidential information. Ambulance man prepared to take a wheelchair from a person, dizzy with drugs and a broken foot. More security staff than medical staff. No privacy or dignity on offer.

  5. Review titled First Class Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had an accident on Saturday night and was taken unconscious to A&E at Southampton General. My head wound had been covered, I had been scanned and made comfortable. Upon waking, a little confused, I was seen very quickly and had the situation explained to me. I was told I needed stitches, and would need to be given the all clear to leave afterwards. This was all done in relatively speedy time, and my options, next steps, and any signs of concerns to look out for were explained to me. Once I had been stitched up, I did not have to wait very long to be examined and released. The treatment I received was delivered in a very professional and caring manner and I was left with all the information I needed regarding aftercare etc. The treatment I received made a potentially very difficult situation far easier than it had any right to be. I would like to commend the staff who looked after me to the highest degree. Thank you A&E and much respect to you.

  6. Review titled Very caring and friendly

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I would just like to thank the children's a&e team for being kind and sharing so much compassion for myself and my son who had a couple of visits including an overnight stay. They were very caring and patient and gave my son the care he needed. Please pass on my gratitude to the team who made my son feel at ease even though he can be a very nervous patient.

Thank you for the team who cared for me today. Reception was well staffed with compassionate admin and doctor who understood my case. I was reviewed formally within the hour by another compassionate doctor. Thank you to the nhs for working seemlessly and reassuring me today and always!

  8. Review titled Excellent experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Today I attended the Radiology department on C Level at Southampton General Hospital, for a Barium Swallow. Not a particularly nice procedure but the staff, particularly the 3 in the xray room with me were absolutely wonderful. So friendly, yet professional, supportive and kind. Very knowledgeable. A completely positive experience. Thank you.

  9. Review titled Superb treatment at A&E

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Mike B - Posted on 09 February 2024

Superb treatment , and they talk to you on their level - they are unbelievably busy, but stillso sharp, on the ball and super efficient and so kind to all the patients. What impressed me was the obvious joy the staff exhibited as they went about their duties - laughing and joking - delightful environment- Thank you so much for being there for us

  10. Review titled Poor leadership

Rated 1 star out of 5

The cdu1 leadership is poor and lacks any respect for due process. The nurse in charge was rude, lacked professional courtesy and aggressive. This is not what you would expect from this service
