    After having a hysterectomy, I just want to say that from the initial checks in the Colposcopy clinic, to the nurses at pre assessment, the wonderful nurses in pre op, the lovely staff in Eastwood ward and not forgetting the incredible consultant n operating staff, I received the more fabulous, caring and professional care. Any fears were kindly dealt with, I felt safe and kept up to date with what I was having done. I honestly cannot recommend Southend hospital highly enough. You are all hero’s ! Thank you

    Attended early Sunday morning and was referred to the GP team. I received very prompt and effective and professional service leaving the hospital after only 1.5 hours complete with a prescription. My only disappoint was that I was unable to respond to the text speaking feedback due to the fact that it was a premium rate. This is quicker than my GP has ever achieved.

    Just completed 23 radiotherapy sessions. Staff are excellent,caring,compassionate and professional from the receptionist to to radiotherapy nurses/technicians Thank you all you’ve been outstanding. Many thanks

    I have received a letter from hospital, directing me to call the given number to arrange a follow up appointment , that is almost a year late. It states that I have teo weeks yo do so otherwise, it will be assumed I dont need it any more. I tried to call several times, on different days, but nobody never answered the phone.....what do I do, where do I go???????

    Useless, tried for 3 weeks to cancel an unsuitable appointment slot. Eye clinic answered my call once in 3 weeks calling every week day. When answered phone put straight back down without saying a word. I am under Orsett hospital, have been for nearly 20 years. There was no way I was going to Southend eye clinic, been there before and hated the place. This was my first follow up appointment in 4 years, even though I am supposed to be seen every 3-6 months. Other eye clinics answer their phones so I am not surprised Southend hospital has such a stinking reputation for all departments. I will now have to somehow try to book another appointment for the correct and competent eye clinic in Orsett. This is disgraceful that you cannot speak to someone about changing an appointment. Maybe if you weren’t so busy going on strike and actually doing the jobs you signed up for in caring for in and out patients there would be a better system in place. My appointment is for this afternoon, so, the appointment can’t be attended or given to somebody else. Complete waste of time and resources that unfortunately we have now come to expect from the NHS.

  6. Review titled Rheumatology Education Group

    The Nurse/Doctor that presented the Educational Group used a Power Point presentation to explain all aspects of the medical condition, medication, and outcome/future treatment. It was very comprehensive and reassuring. We could ask any questions, that there may not have been time to address with a Consultant. It was a very positive addition to any consultation, if you are offered the chance to attend an Education Group it is worth attending.

    Had to take my father to a radiology appointment today and we were treated quickly and efficiently and really saw the human side of everyone we met. The CT scan was 15 minutes early and as we were waiting for radiology treatment the receptionist recognised my father was in huge discomfort with his back. She managed to find him a trolley to rest on and found him 2 pillows. She was amazing (I wish I could named her!). We only waited an hour of the "between 1 and 4 hours wait time" we were expecting. Dad was treated by 3 radiologist who remained calm and compassionate despite the extra time dad needed and treated him with the utmost respect. With all the "noise" around the NHS currently I felt credit needed to be given. I hope no one has to witness the suffering my dad is currently going through and today the staff at Southend were a saving grace. Thank you.

    I have spent 11 days in hospital following several falls, eventually ended up in a ward which was mainly run by untrained staff. Completely focused on a number, woken up at some ridiculous hour and forced out of bed to walk to the toilet and made to wash in a small sink. The staff in general do not listen to you and repeated mistakes not handed over. Completely disempowered made to feel like a child. Example of this prescribed water tablets and asked to use a commode at 1.30 am and again at 5.30 and told by health care assistant that I was making to many times, on one occasion I was desperate to go to the toilet and staff were more interested in a staff member who was pregnant despite being opposite to me, felt invisible until one of the domestic staff went over and told her I needed a commode and then she made excuses. When eventually discharged as I needed hospital transport to get home, having spent most of the day waiting for discharge papers and medication I had to leave without either and still waiting for both despite being home for over 24 hours, they claimed that they had come but I didn’t answer the door. Which unless they came after 9 o’clock was complete rubbish as I didn’t hear a thing. Overall the care received was appalling I am at the stage where despite what happens I will not go back. The only person who clearly looked at the bigger picture was a consultant, who was covering while the junior doctors were on strike, I have to say he was brilliant and clearly an expert, if it wasn’t for him I would probably still be there being cared for by untrained staff.

    We were checked in at A&E within 5 minutes and shown to Zone F as our son had a minor injury. The lovely ENP then saw us within a further 5-10 minutes and assessed/cared for our shocked son who has special needs and was distressed promptly and patiently and kindly, we had perhaps a 20 minute wait a x-ray who again were great, then back to the ENP who reviewed the x-rays with a colleague as we were returning and then diligently bandaged our son, got the antibiotics we need there and then in the room, gave us clear and helpful advice on how to look after the lacerated fingers. This was the best of the best of the NHS, we were probably no more than 90 minutes in the building, everyone we saw should be proud of the professional, kind and speedy service above all the ENP who was truly wonderful. This just shows how brilliant the NHS can be and often is. Thank you all very much from the bottom of our hearts, it meant a lot to us.

    I attended the physiotherapy dept for a first appointment having been referred by GP for knee problem. The examination & consultation were conducted with an exceptional level of professionalism, empathy and good humour.
