Went to a out of hours clinic at Penrice hospital, told a scan needed, passed over to Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust waited 20 hours for a ultra sound scan that could have been done at Penrice hospital in the first place.

  2. Review titled Superb care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My wife was admitted for end of life care and everything was done to make her comfortable. Doctors, nurses and care assistants all acted with both compassion and efficiency. They can be very proud of what they do.

  3. Review titled Hit and miss

Rated 3 stars out of 5

It really is a hit and miss my 4yr old daughter was going in regularly and we met some lovely nurses that was calm and reassuring myself and my daughter they seemed passionate and then we went to derriford and met a nurse who offered my daughter a lift not me the parent her words were (I will pick you up for your next appointment ) then smile at my daughter while I was sat behind her and she didn't turn her head to make contact with me, my daughter said no we went in nanny's car today and grandad with bring me here then to mc'ds which the nurse did not respond too I travelled just over an hr to the hospital that day and she wasn't informed how I got there I do not find that behaviour appropriate! We visited deriford 3x in the last 2 weeks before meeting this one, on my daughters last appointment at penrice changing between two hospitals forjust over a month the same nurse told me to check my daughter but if I wanted to I could take her to a gp which I most certainly did and another 3weeks for treatment was needed the gp was amazing at emotional support and cleaning but unfortunately not wrapping a bandage I eventually brought my own supplies and put my first aid certificate to hand for my daughter because the bacis seemed too much of a job for the gp to do it properly or maybe they was unaware they was doing it wrong after the 1st of 3 visits to the gp I did tell the nurse that it came undone and still continued... Unfortunately some of these experiences has made me feel very uneased approaching the NHS I do hope in the future I will be able to go back in with an opened mind and not have to feel like I need my guard up.

I unfortunately arrived with a knitting needle through my finger, from reception through to nursing all staff were amazing. Helpful, prompt, caring, and efficient. The care I received was incredible, they explained everything in detail and made me feel extremely safe. I cannot thank them enough.

  6. Review titled Exemplary MIU Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I visited St Austell MIU yesterday after my fiance and child sustained wounds from a cat. Right from the moment you enter, staff greet you with a welcoming and kind manner. The admin, HCA and practitioner's were exceptional. The staff were professional, empathetic and respectful throughout. Despite working under such pressure during such busy times, the team were went above and beyond to provide a compassionate 5 star service. I must mention the nurse's terrible jokes - these made us feel at ease after feeling so stressed by the trauma. This team is an asset to the NHS and the St Austell community.

  7. Review titled Professional Team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Amanda Hastilow - Posted on 29 May 2023

I don’t often write reviews, unless I feel strongly about my experience. Today I was advised by 111 to visit the MIU at St Austell Community Hospital about my eye. I was seen quickly by triage then after a short wait I saw the nurse. The nurse who examined my eye was professional, caring and reassuring. The whole experience could have been worrying and anxious, but the team’s sense of humour made my experience almost enjoyable!! I can’t speak highly enough about my experience from start to finish, especially when it was a Bank Holiday Monday and it was extremely busy! All the staff were great! I have been to this MIU many times over the years, either for myself or family members and it is consistently good. Thank you

My daughter had to go in due to a fracture on her wrist, they were amazing with her, she went back there to get the cast off and put the splint on and they were so calm with her. Very happy with the treatment.

  9. Review titled Very disappointing treatment by those who should care

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Kim Bessant - Posted on 29 April 2023

I was very shocked at the uncaring service we received today from the nurse who assess my daughter (14) with abdominal pain in minor injuries, as a healthcare worker myself working Frontline for the ambulance service , I find it very upsetting to see a professional nurse act in such an uncaring manner. We took my daughter into the unit due to a concern she may have appendicitis, I checked with the receptionist that the unit would be able to assess abdominal pain and was told they wouldn't ever turn a patient away. The unit was quiet and so we were seen almost immediately but we were met with a barrage of hostility from the nurse saying 'we shouldn't be there', and 'what would they be able to do', I was so shocked at the lack of compassion and it was not what I would expect from a fellow NHS worker! I am so sad to see this sort of practice being carried out and I can only imagine how upset other patients must be to be attended to by someone like this. I hope you can use this feedback productively to make improvements and ask the nurse to reflect on this kind of attitude to her practice, my daughter and I were made to feel like a complete nuisance when all we had wanted was some advice, reassurance and sign posting as we were on holiday and a long way from home. I would appreciate someone getting back to me and we have both been left very upset by this experience.

  10. Review titled Awful

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 March 2023

What is the point in the MIU unit at St austell hospital. On my visit today, there was 2 patients ahead of me. The nurse on triage was rude, obnoxious and not very pleasant. Waiting over 45 minutes later when it's obvious there is no patient being seen I left. Xray department closes for lunch. Pathetic

We are sorry to hear that you did not have the experience we would have expected in St Austell Community hospital. Be assured we will forward this to the Matron and Team Lead who will look into the circumstances that led to your dissatisfaction of our service. The X Ray department is led by Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust and we have no jurisdiction over the department closing for a lunch break which is a mandatory requirement for staff members. We will follow your feedback up and will expect a response from the service.
