  1. Review titled Great care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Trevor - Posted on 07 June 2024

I had hernia operation and was supposed to be discharged after. However I had complications and had to stay an extra 2 days in the David Beever day care ward. The staff were excelent and kept me informed of everything that was happening. They treated me well and with respect at all times.

  2. Review titled Thanks to the "back room staff' in respiratory medicine

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Simon Rose - Posted on 14 May 2024

Simply wanted to acknowledge and thank the staff involved in rescheduling a telephone consultation for. me. My incoming call was picked up almost instantly, the staff member went off to check with a clinician and promised to call me back. Within 3-4 minutes the call arrived and the problem solved. This may seem small fry when compared to life threatening surgery, but it was hugely appreciated. The Leeds Trust set an example that other major hospitals should learn from. I write as someone who has being unable to contact anyone medical or administrative by phone or text, on a ward at University College Hospital London for the past 24 hours. And I regret to say this is their shameful 'standard'. So thanks to all at St James and Leeds General Infirmary.

  3. Review titled Omission of Signage in Online Appointment Notifications

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 May 2024

I am pleased with the paper less invitation to attend clinics but the lack of signage is a significant cause of distress, anxiety and panic, especially for patients attending when other reception areas are not manned. My experience to locate the Breast Clinic was a nightmare this morning. Kindly help l.Thanks.

  6. Review titled You saved my life - what else matters?

by Alan Noel Perkins - Posted on 26 March 2024

I almost collapsed in reception, could not breathe and honestly believed I was not going to make it. Thankfully, the lady receptionist on admissions leapt into action and got me straight through to the team before making my wife fill out my details. It may only be another day at the office to you guys, but the care and professional treatment I received could not have been bettered. With your help and the aid of nebulisers etc, you brought me back, when both myself and my wife genuinely believed this was a major problem. I suffer from Copd and Asthma, I also have other health problems ‘so it could have been reality, that I could easily have died. I had never before experienced Copd problems so acute as I was a bit naïve about the condition. I have to thank you all again for your help, After 4 days, I am now back home. I also want to thank those patients who had to wait even longer to see the team (after waiting who knows how long), just for me to jump the queue. I heard nobody complain, which I would have expected, and I hope they all got seen very soon after and I feel sure that they will have received the same magnificent care that I had. One final point I would make is how appalled I was, when on the ward, I heard so much verbal and racist abuse from other patients who were shouting, swearing and carrying on at the very people who were trying to help them. In two cases it was simply because they didn’t get a nicarette spray! One man in particular who was being aggressive over such trivial matters was so bad, myself and other ward members were suggesting security remove him from the hospital grounds, but the staff just got on with it and continued to give him the best care and attention. That is dedication! People have to realise, this is a teaching hospital and many of the staff are only weeks or months into a job, and many come from other countries (thankfully) and often struggle to be understood, but they are still doing everything they can to help the very people who look down on them and abuse them. Thank you all so much in A&E, Wards J27 and 84 at St James. To me, you are all legends!

  8. Review titled Excellent service and care!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rose - Posted on 02 June 2024

I had my first baby in St. James's. I read some reviews that are not quite good but I know that every experience is different. Mine was very amazing from start to finish. I had an excellent experience with sjuh from pre natal, labor & delivery and post natal treatments. My experience was wonderful, all the staff that I encountered was very sweet, professional, caring and excellent, including the students. Antenatal- every time my husband call the Maternity Assessment Unit, they always accomodate us quickly everytime we ring them. Always advised us to come everytime we have concerns such as less fetal movements, temperature, bleeding etc. I felt that they do really care eventhough I don't see the same healthcare providers all the time. The care they provide is the same. During labour- I had to wait outside for a few minutes while waiting for a bed. I didn't mind cause I was not in labor yet. I just had my water broke and was advised to go to the unit for me to be checked. When my labor started, everyone again is wonderful! They tried to ease my pain, they gave me varieties of pain relief such as pregnancy ball, water therapy where I stayed in the bathtub for quite sometime and lastly medications. Delivery- I had an excellent & wonderful delivery because I had the best midwives. They communicate to us very well, the dignity, patience, empathy and reassurance is always there. They gave us the best care of how they treated me, my husband and my baby! I hadn't had the chance to have the epidural but its worth it! I handled it properly with the help of the midwives by teaching me the proper breathing and push that I needed. The dignity was maintained all through out, no unnecessary ie (internal examination) was conducted. The cut and the suture is done nicely. Postnatal-ly, my healthcare provider's are very caring and professional, they never left me alone and I'm very happy with the care I recieved. How they took care and handled my baby most especially. A little bit pressured with breastfeeding but I felt the concern and importance. After 4 weeks, I came back with a mastitis and everyone is welcoming me and my baby. As some of them recognized us. They do really care. They gave me the information about this, do's and dont's. The physician was gorgeous and lovely. She explained it to me well, she told me she will not admit me as it is manageable at home and so that I will be more comfortable at home especially with a newborn. Thank you! Shout out to all of them! I cannot name them all including the students.

  10. Review titled Exceptional great care and attention

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anna Owusu Ansah - Posted on 18 February 2024

I had fears opting for vaginal birth though I really wanted to go for it . My previous CS was less than 18months but increasing my chance of scare rapture in VBAC However right from maternity assessment and delivery unit I was given extremely best support with my decision for VBAC . I successfully delivered vaginally . The doctor and midwives on duty that day were extremely amazing , caring, empathetic, and loving . I felt loved in every stage of my delivery and I so felt I was the only patient in the unit that day because they were all over and around me every second. Such great midwife offering exceptional service . Good job guys . I am forever grateful for all the love and attention
