  1. Review titled Fantastic prenatal care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Graz - Posted on 09 March 2024

I started my maternity care in Sept 23 and delivered in March 24. I self referred from another London borough. My first delivery was a tough experience with large blood loss and I wanted to make sure I'm choosing the best professionals available in case of complications this time round. Pre natal service was great. Appointments were booked for me and notifications were sent well. Ahead of time. I never had to wait long when I came to the appointments. Everyone was very attentive, respectful and nice. Referrals were processed quickly too. I have been referred to obstetrician team right away due to previous problems.OBs were very good and I felt my case was really looked and and considered individually rather then just getting " by the book" responses (which was the case in Royal London Hospital during my first pregnancy). All the appointments and test results were visible online too. I ended up having a planned c section, medically recommended, and decided to opt for it. The doctors took time to explain risks clearly as well. As risks of alternative options. On the day everything was very smooth. Staff at the theatre was excellent. I has some minor complications which were dealt with quickly too. Immediate Post op room and service very good too, I felt well looked after and safe. Post natal ward experience was worse but still good. The shared room was uncomfortably hot. The ward felt understuffed too, most prominent evidence of it was a very long time to get discharged, nearly 24th after doctors gave green light. I had relatively easy recovery time, no complications for either myself or baby and I established breastfeeding very quickly so I felt a bit "neglected" but other ladies in the shared room were getting more specialist support / care as per their needs. Midwife led part of the Discharge was very long, nearly 24h after the doctors signed off which was very frustrating.

A big thank you to all in Plastics and the Hand Trauma Unit for the superb treatment and care I have received over the past week. Your knowledge and swift actions have helped my arm heal quickly and hopefully fully. Once again thank you.

Sunday was my 1st experience at St Thomas a&e. I was so impressed and happy with their fast, friendly and attentive care. Within 2 1/2h I had seen a doctor twice, had a heart monitor and chest xray. All staff were friendly and helpful and working efficiently. I’m very pleased I went there.

  4. Review titled Worst staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

This hospital’s worker need improvement on how they serve people. It’s not professional and rude to tell a foreigner to just go back to their country to get a treatment, without even trying to help. This happened on Januart 1st around 15.45 o’clock, i go to the A&E because my mom was sick. Maybe i was wrong bcs i walked into the A&E, but i was just asking nicely on how to book an appointment with a neurologist for my mom, because i dont know where else to go. Then a staff says the A&E isn’t a place to book an appointment, i said i knew it but it’ll be nice if he tell me how to do it bcs i’m a foreigner and idk how. Then this staff says “why don’t you just go back to your country to get the treatment? Why do you want to get the treatment here?“ In my country Indonesia, my mom was handled by one of the best neurologist in Indonesia. My mom got a treatment from a proffesor months ago and the professor already accepted this trip before we fly to UK. The problem is her condition suddenly worsen here and she can’t reach the Professor online, it’s only our 7th days and we still get 14 days to spend before we go back to Indonesia. My mom feeling weak, dizzy and seems to be confused, she can barely speak without lagging between her words. So we made a second choice which we have to find a neurologist here in London who can treat her. I know maybe her condition isn’t really urgent but who wants to be in pain during the vacation? And what kind of health worker who told their patient to just go without even trying to help?

  5. Review titled Excellent care at Epagu

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I received excellent care from the Early pregnancy and acute gynaecology unit. From my first call to the unit with symptoms of an ectopic I was called in to have a scan the very next day. I was treated with care and respect and given the power to choose the treatment plan I wanted. My surgery went well and I felt well taken care of before, during and after the surgery (the anesthetist was so great but they always are!). I received timely follow up calls and scans. All staff I interacted with were respectful and helpful and the ward staff were very attentive. There were some absolutely brilliant nurses (I would name names but against the rules) and some less brilliant ones but overall the care was great. My scars are minimal and recovery was fast. I am very grateful to St Thomas for their attentive care, for taking me seriously from the beginning and for promptly giving me the surgery I needed. My only comment is that I did have to do some of my own research into nice guidelines about treatment paths for ectopic based on baseline hcg levels. The various consultants I saw seemed to have differing opinions on this and there was a sense that information was “drip fed” as I went along. Perhaps this was on purpose so as not to overwhelm me however? I am fully capable of doing my own research like this but someone in a more vulnerable position than I was might have been a little confused. My pathway in the end was very clear cut so I don’t think it would have made a difference, but a woman with more borderline hcg might have benefited from more fact based information being shared from the start.

  6. Review titled Outstanding care and clinical practise

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was a day patient undergoing a denervation procedure which was complicated by my having an ICD which had to be turned off for the procedure. The care and treatment I received was exemplary from the moment I entered the department to my leaving. All staff were kind and approachable and took time to fully explain all that was involved in my care and ensured my wellbeing at all times. All clinical staff - nurses, anaesthetic staff and medical professionals ( a special thanks to the consultant) were warm and obviously highly experienced and competent. As a retired NHS nurse, I was delighted with all aspects of care which made a potentially stress inducing procedure go smoothly and efficiently. Thank you to the entire team.

  7. Review titled Lovely staff, terrible organisation

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I was booked in for a miscarriage follow up at a specific time. I planned my day around my 10am appointment here. I was there for 7 hours!!!! I left at 5pm. I was feeling well before I had to spend 7 hours waiting for my 10am appointment. I understand waiting in a&e and urgent care, however, I shouldn’t have to wait for a timed appointment. I did not plan to spend all day there and didn’t bring any food/phone charger etc as I thought I’d be out within an hour or so. Nurse and doctor were lovely but if you are given specific appointments to people it should be in a different area.

  8. Review titled Feeling heard, understood and supported.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I don’t usually leave any feedback but I really feel like I have to. I am still in the Hyperemis Clinic in St Thomas hospital but I am so amazed by the care provided here! The nurse/doctor that saw me and gave me the diagnosis was so understanding, showed compassion and genuily cared! I was seen quickly, they managed my symptoms and found a solution. I am hoping to leave her with a plan of action to manage my Hyperemis. I am so happy that St Thomas has this clinic and has supported me today to make me feel better, supported and understood. Thank you!

  9. Review titled Awful experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

I ve arrived with the water broke to Mau unit and stayed for the caesarean to be called. I ve been lied from the very first minute I ve arrived waiting outside for 30 hours . Finally the third doctor has arrived and said that they are waiting that something bad happened with the baby to be an emergency so they can prioritise me to the theatre. It is awful to hear that from the team who suppose to help you and keep you comfortable in such painful circumstances. I feel abandoned, so disappointed about all the team how walk around and assuming that I should starv for more than 24 hours just to be ready and no one came for more than 31 hours

  10. Review titled Emergency early pregnancy unit Nurse

Rated 1 star out of 5

I am going through my first pregnancy and I have had a scare due to some infection, fever, heavy cough shortness of breath abnormal discharge still in my first Trimester. The nurse who called me back had no empathy toward me or my concerns and clearly was annoyed with the fact that I had questions and did not do anything to reassure my worries. If this is how expectant mothers are treated by nurses at this hospital I am not feeling confident I will be looked after professionally and efficiently. People like this should not be nurses. I am appalled.
