Review titled Brilliant from admission to discharge
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Carol Groombridge - Posted on 09 April 2023
I was admitted in 29th March for a knee replacement. The care I received from walking in the door of the admissions unit to discharge from ward D 48 with surgery and recovery in between was second to none. Caring helpful and attentive every step of the way. I was in for a total of 29 hours and felt very confident to go home. Thank you to everyone.

From arriving at a and e by ambulance to leaving the department seven hours later I have been treat with care and compassion. Each member of staff from checking in doctors and nurses and also the domestic were all very pleasant and kept me informed with what was going on. The department was very busy but at no time did I feel rushed and listening to other patient’s conversations I feel everyone was treat the same. I thank you for the care you all showed me whilst in the department. You are all an asset to the NHS

Review titled Poor service
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I attended the hospital for an ultrasound in February and the staff were brilliant, however it was the talk of the place that lots of people hadn’t turned up for their appointment. Sadly I found out why when I had to telephone the Directorate of Diagnostic Imaging. It took a whole hour for anyone to answer the phone. I was told I was number 3 in the queue. I hoped this was unusual, but when I later had to phone back to cancel my appointment sadly it was exactly the same. I then received a letter telling me I’d missed my appointment despite the fact I’d cancelled it. Totally unacceptable. What a waste of money.

Review titled 8 hours wait before assessment, 11 hours in total
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Chris - Posted on 02 April 2023
After a fall at home went to A&E suspecting a broken wrist, and with a large lump on my head and back pains. Arrived at 8pm, booked in and sat until well afer 4am without being assessed. Went to reception three times but got curt response on 2 occasions. On 3rd occasion, not having been seen by anyone seemed to trigger response. After 4am finally assessed and fast tracked to another department for treatment by nurse practitioner, finally leaving hospital at 7am! The wait for assessment was inexcusable considering the pain and possibility of more serious complications. Badly broken wrist confirmed, excellent treatment given once assessed.

Review titled Fantastic Doctors and Nurses

Im currently under investigation with the neurology team at sunderland royal hospital. Im very afraid of needles and needed and lumbar puncture, the neurologist who treated me was extremely understanding and really helped me through the process whilst being patient but also with a sense of urgency to my health. The same Neurologist is uses extremely sensitive language surrounding my mental health and previous issues i’ve had with it in the past, which was lovely to experience as most health care professionals won’t tip toe around the subject and make me feel worse and use triggering language. The Neurology team at Sunderland Royal Hospital are a part of the best health care i’ve ever received and they have saved me from vision loss. I hope the whole team get passed on this message and know how thankful i am for their help and care.

Review titled Friendly,helpful staff

by Sandra Hennessey - Posted on 28 February 2023
Visited xray department today for my dad, couldn't find a chair to take him to the department as he's really bad walking at the moment but he managed to get there on time, we didn't wait long to be called in and a really lovely nurse who told us she just graduated a year ago brought him out in a chair and took him to the entrance of the hospital for our transport home. She chatted with us until our car arrived and was very pleasant. Thank you for her help today by making it easier for my dad who is 84.

Review titled Impolite staff
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 12 February 2023
Whilst I appreciate staff being busy, I believe there should be a level of politeness from all. Understand when someone suffers from anxiety, telling them they can’t have someone with them whilst being seen only makes things worse. Then for a member of staff to be quite surly without even a please or thank you just makes for an overall bad experience.

Review titled Amazing teamwork
Rated 5 stars out of 5

After a few months with gallstones I was able to get a cancellation slot earlier than expected. However rearranged due to a false positive pregnancy test. However rearranged within a short time a lot (15 day). From arriving for the 2nd attempt at surgery from reception to leaving I can not fault the staff. They ensured all blood was done and right medical clothing etc given prior to surgery. Anaesthetist was amazing explaining everything. Put at ease in theatre I remember answering a question one minute and the next thing I know I am awake in recovery finishing the conversation. I was really anxious op attempt 1 however more relaxed today. The offer of food and drink was very prompt and the duty of care was outstanding. Ensuring I was well enough to move around safely etc. and on leaving escorted back to the care of family. With a booklet of aftercare at home. I can not be anymore grateful to the surgeon and his amazing team for getting me from pain with gallstones to happier back to the normal me. Especially under the current situation Nhs nationwide with strikes and rise in covid again. Everything ran so smoothly better than expected

Review titled Quick care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Michelle Parkin - Posted on 13 February 2023
After becoming poorly over the weekend due to a stray gallstone I was asked to attend a&e as soon as possible. I was seen within the hour as it was less busy than usual. I was asked to go to sdec department and taken to a bay. I was relieved as I was every nauseous and in pain. I can not fault the care I got and the fast response when I became very poorly being sick. The nurse came in and reassured me not to worry and within minutes I had and iv inserted into my arm to rehydrate administered anti sick pain relief and I think a bit morphine for the pain. I returned yesterday for another blood test which showed worsened but was able to pinpoint why it all happened. Been back in today 13/2/23 had an mri scan which is now clear and bloods stabilised so the stone seems to have left my body. The team both in a&e and sdec are an absolute amazing team. Amd ther turn around time for getting patients in and out was very good. The reassuring team in sdec last few days has kept me calm due to anxiety and one team member in general who has character to him. If it wasn’t for him Saturday and room day and the lady I saw yesterday able to explain the outcome of previous bloods I would not have had my mri so soon. Amd to be leaving with a clean bill of health and advised to rest up and use correct pain relief etc has helped me as scared massively. Thanks srh for the hard work in tough times
