  1. Review titled Every member of staff professional

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 October 2024

I am very impressed by the professional and friendly staff at this hospital. At every level from health care professionals administering radiotherapy and chemotherapy to receptionists who greet everyone with a smile. This culture normalises the cancer diagnosis that we as patients have been dealt and makes the hospital experience less daunting. I was very well looked after by the radiographers and the chemotherapy nurses. The only facility that was not that well managed is the pharmacy. Nothing is private. They really do need to find a way to discuss symptoms and medications privately rather than shouting through glass so the whole queue can hear one’s details. And have a system for collecting that is clear not chaotic. The pharmacists are professional just the facility is not right for maintaining confidentiality at busy times.

  2. Review titled Good practice re treatment and alternative therapy support

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Alternative therapy - Posted on 19 February 2024

I would like to thankyou the alternative therapy team for supporting me and helping me to get through the Bone Marrow test, which I was so scared of due to how painful it was previously. They came to the test, helped me with breathing through the pain, use of essential oils, and a massage after, they talked me through the journey and looked at solutions to reduce my freas, use of music. Everyone having the bone marrow procedure should be offered it to help manage the pain. Thankyou so much for your support, it meant so much to me.

  3. Review titled Waiting all day for telephone consultation

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 September 2023

Most of my appointments are now over the phone. I'm not given an approximate time. I wait in all day and a couple of times I've accidentally missed the call. There is no message to indicate if someone will call back and when and it's from a private number so I can't call back, especially if the call comes after 5pm and all the consultants have gone home. Having cancer treatment completely disrupts your life and damages your mental health as it is. Please can you do something to make the telephone appointment system less disruptive and uncertain?

I resently received treatment for stage 1 womb cancer, from start to finish the care I received was first class, from the reception to the surgery and beyond,6 weeks later I received the excellent news that I am now cancer free and it’s all down to the brilliant surgeon and his caring staff.

  5. Review titled Poor appointment system

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 June 2023

I have been receiving chemotherapy from May every 3 weeks one the first appointment I was seen 1 hour after appointment time, the 2nd 3 hours after and have just arrived for my 3rd appointment to be told there is a 2 to 3 hour delay again. How can this be? Is there a way patient's can be informed on the day how long delays are prior to arriving. I travel approx 1 hour to arrive on time to be told I have a 3 hour delay which inevitably means I am spending upto 6 hours to receive my treatment. Surely its possible to send a txt or email 2hours before appointment times to say if there is delays

  6. Review titled Poor services!!!

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 June 2023

My mum has recently been admitted to the Christie’s, as a specialist cancer hospital we expect high level of care for patients undergoing cancer treatments. Ward 4 level of care is appalling, she has been left without oral feeding and the nurses continue to tell me they will hand over for the next nurse to chase this up with the doctors but nothing is being looked into. I’m disgusted at the level of care that is being provided to a patient dealing with cancer. I understand the pressures associated with the job but a patients needs and safety must come first!

  7. Review titled Excellent staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anthony Skerratt - Posted on 31 May 2023

I have now visited Christie’s twice now and both times I have been seen at my appointment time, what lovely caring staff as they explain in detail everything that will happen during my chemotherapy. Much better than my local hospital, I feel privileged that I have been referred to Christie’s for my treatment. From booking in there is a gentleman that helped me with that and then I have been seen by two different doctors now and they were so professional and understanding what I am going through and put my mind at rest

  8. Review titled Gone from good to bad

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Eloise Pearsall - Posted on 17 May 2023

Ive been coming here with recurrent stage 4 Melanoma for over 10 yrs, after my GP had failed to act on my concerns for 18 mnths or send me for a biopsy. Though initially good, the Christie has deteriorated over the last 3 years. Noone answers phones, you cant get hold of any dept, I never see my registered consultant, my Port doesnt get flushed, numerous messages to my specialist nurse go ignored, taxis arent booked, vague reports, important information witheld, not told scan results etc. As someone with very poor mental health whos had numerous misdiagnoses and no support from their GP I relied on the Christie to help me. Ive been waiting months for vital information re a scan done 10 years ago and been hitting crisis. They know how important this was and how its effected my mental health but have done nothing. I cannot deal with the added stress of how incompetent this hospital has become and will not go again. I have noone at all to help me, and nobody anywhere Ive tried even cares.

  9. Review titled Treatment waiting times

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Jeff SALISBURY - Posted on 23 August 2023

I agree with other reviews about the excessive waiting times for treatment once checked in at Reception. Lack of information is a problem with TVscreens not working or not visible from all waiting areas. Recently a flip chart has been put up saying the usual "2 hour delay", however on my last visit it was blank, resulting in a queue at Reception asking "how long?" One occasion in Jan 2023 I waited 4.5 hours only to be sent home at 7.20pm. The standard response to these reviews is to contact PALS. I did so and got nowhere. Please improve information on waiting times for patients.

  10. Review titled Admin and Nursing flaws

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 July 2023

I have had numerous appointments here and major surgery under the colorectal team. My medical treatment was pretty good, just a couple of minor hiccups, but the nursing is very hit and miss. Some were great, others pretty rude and cold, one nurse refused to help me clean myself after going to the toilet for the first time since my operation. Every time I have rang a reception desk I have had rude and cold responses from receptionists. I rang the hotline asking if they could confirm an MRI appointment date and they put me on hold for 15 mins until the line cut off without asking for any ID information to find out, which made me believe they had no intention of helping. How can you find out an appointment time without even finding out who it’s for?
