Review titled Poor initial meeting
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 22 September 2024
Arrive to be greeted by a rude guy on the door, who renders his own medical opinions upon arrival. Actually rolled his eyes at my wife for being sent here. Whatever school yard troubles exist between the hospitals and the dr who referred us here are not our fault and we should not be made to feel like a burden on arrival. With small children and a late evening visit it was not what we wanted to be doing. But as my wife has had serious medical issues since her last pregnancy these things need checking.

Review titled A&E fantastic caring treatment for my mum
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Kelly - Posted on 24 September 2024
We arrived at 10.30pm with a 5hr wait ahead of us with a suspected broken wrist but I have to say the staff were all incredible. Reception were so friendly and listened and helped us book a taxi at 3am. The lovely blood pressure lady was so gentle with my mum. The Dr and nurse were so kind offering my mum and me some Roses chocolate (after checking for allergies) and making her laugh. The Dr was so caring saying it was an honour to treat my mum. We couldn’t have felt more cared for and the difference compared to 4 weeks ago for my dad in another area of the hospital was night and day. Other areas of the hospital should really look to learn from the positive experience these staff gave us on what was a long tiring night. Thank you so much!!

Review titled Amazing staff at all levels
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jane - Posted on 09 September 2024
I had the misfortune of dislocating and fracturing my elbow yesterday, everyone at GWH was so kind and caring despite being run off their feet. The NHS itself may be in crisis but the staff are absolutely amazing, including the volunteers. Thank you GWH!

Review titled Frightening Chaos
Rated 1 star out of 5

Tuesday 13th Augusr 2024, 11pm - 8 hours waiting in terrible pain (kidney infection) I had passed out at home, no ambulances at all available (neither were there when I tripped onto a branch, which went through my arm, previously this Summer, which required surgery. I have requested an ambulance twice in my life, this year, and both times were told that although a priority, there were no ambulances available. This was terrifying. A&E was rammed, people bleeding, collapsing, vomiting and there was urine on the floor, which wasn't cleaned up the whole time I was there. I worked for the NHS back in the day, am a staunch supporter, but the service at the GWH A&E was appalling, as was the ambulance service. I see that it hasn't been assessed since 2018. It desperately needs looking at.

Review titled Excellent treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Kate Crutcher - Posted on 31 July 2024
Yesterday I returned home after a 36 hour stay which included a total knee replacement and a sort stay on Albourne Ward. Huge thank you to the consultant, all of the doctors, nurses, the anaesthetist, surgeon, porters and volunteers in whom whom who's care I was in, were incredibly caring and professional. Nothing seemed too much trouble. They put at ease and made my stay as comfortable as was possible. As a result I am making good progress. Huge thank you.

Review titled Reassured
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended the emergency department on a same day referral from my surgery which was unexpected and a sudden shock to me. Obviously I was seriously concerned and worried that I may have some serious unknown to me condition, I was seen in a timely manner and I was attended to by a very reassuring doctor who went through all the tests and procedures with me. When I left the department I felt that everything that could have been done for me was done. I had a clear explanation of all that related to my health at that time and I was both reassured and unburdened. Thank you so much for everything you did on what was a very busy day in that department.

Review titled Amazing hospital and staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 19 July 2024
From the ambulance staff, the porters, an and e department, kingfisher ward and Daisy ward the staff were pure amazing. Put me at ease after quite a scare. Spent two nights as an inpatient. Even though I was told I could go home they did not pressure me and offered for me to stay an extra night to process and absorb everything that had happened. I have a two week referral in place to attend as an out patient before I even left the building. Couldn’t ask for better care and patience

I recently had 2 appointments for an Endoscopy. The treatment I received was excellent. All the staff both times were very friendly and respectful, I couldn't have wished for more. Utmost respect goes to all of them.

Review titled Deliberately Slow
Rated 1 star out of 5
by James Barker - Posted on 04 June 2024
I have been sat in Children’s A&E with my daughter for 7 hours and I have been closely monitoring the team on duty. I am extremely aware that there is a chance I might not know what’s going on behind the scenes, but ……. I literally witnessed a doctor taking a 20 to 40 minute break between patients at reception. Gossiping with colleagues. She seemed to wait for drugs to arrive, to completely finish with one patient before moving on to the next patient, whilst taking another opportunity to natter. If I thought she was typing up notes or doing some clerical work between patients, I wouldn’t have any reason to comment. But really ….. absolutely no sense of urgency, no ability to multitask. Other doctors, we’re seeing 2 or 3 patients, whilst waiting for the next step and still being present to see them depart. I am very happy to share the name of this doctor. I love the NHS and I am always grateful on the few times in my life I have needed medical professionals. But I have never witnessed blatant laziness and a seemingly lack of empathy for the tired, sick children in her department.

Review titled Exemplary care throughout my stay
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by James Walker - Posted on 18 June 2024
I had to go to A & E because my oxygen levels had got dangerously low due to a chest infection. I was rapidly dealt with and put on oxygen then intravenous antibiotics and was regularly monitored until they could get me to a ward (Neptune) for full treatment. My pneumonia was so severe that I needed to stay in hospital for 9 days. The is the first time I have ever stayed in hospital. It was a real eye opener as I could witness first hand the high standard of care and dedication of all staff at all levels. I really do appreciate the staff at the hospital in getting me back to health again. Thank you!
