  1. Review titled Absolute joke of a place

I was kept waiting well over an hour before I even saw anyone don’t make appointments if you’re not gonna stick to them or perhaps learn to tell the time!! Patients do have lives!!

  2. Review titled Saw 4 great workers today.

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Jack m Steel - Posted on 01 November 2024

Entering A&E 01 November 2024, worker on reception a nurse probably higher who didn't wait around to get me help and then a nurse came and put me in room until something more was found then get sent to those holding rooms between wards. Things went down hill. They put in a box but for a walk and decided to get food I know they would try staving me. On doing pumped into a nice man in the hospital restaurant had a nice little chat. He only goes in on a Friday. Only turns out he's the duty manager for this area. I now know why he has a little treat because he works so hard and obviously can't really on most people around him. 4 hard workers. I see, I know. Great guys.

  4. Review titled Awful, uncaring, understaffed.

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by K Smith - Posted on 02 October 2024

We arrived at 11am on Friday morning and were still there at midnight that evening. I appreciate wait time were up to 10 hours to be seen but I was actively bleeding and in chronic pain. We were told by the receptionist I was high priority. 3 hours waiting and it turns out I wasn't even registered on their list. Once the receptionist did her job I was then seen with 30 minutes in step 1 triage. An hour later I had my blood taken and then we had a further 6 hours wait we still hadn't seen a Dr. We were told I would be placed on the gyne list and my partner kept asking the 2 nurses if they could please check I was on the list or ring the department to see how long the wait might be (no pain relief was offered). They kept dismissing him that it may take up to 10 hours. After the third attempt and 9 hours since arrival, he demanded to know where I was in the list by the receptionist and she said I wasn't even on the list for gyne. Luckily the 2 awful nurses left and were replaced by another who went straight to get a Dr from a& e and then things started to progress. 1 hour later I was seen by the a&e Dr who rang gyne and they said to just send me home as they didn't have a bed for too an emergency. Still in chronic pain and bleeding after waiting 12 hours there was no way I was just going home. Finally at 1am I was told the had found me a bed in surgical ward. When I arrived the nurse was rude and said she didn't have one and to sit and wait. At this point I was on my third dose of paracetamol my partner had bought from the shop because they still couldn't find me in the system and so couldn't give pain meds. At 2am I was examined and the registra said he would admit me. At 3am I questioned where my bed was. I was absolutely exhausted. The staff nurse did the registra hadn't said to her to admit me so I'd need to wait until he returns and he had been called to an emergency. At 4am I finally got a bed and wanted to sleep but the staff nurse kept the radio on loudly and was talking even louder. No chance of a rest. In all this was a really awful experience. It felt like no one was doing their job, no one actually cared and hardly anyone in a& e spoke English fluently which made hearing names extremely hard. I had developed mild ohss with some fluid and blood in my uterus causing the extreme pain leaving me unable to walk, wee and breathe properly. Due to this l was ultrasounded and after a short stay discharged. Thank God my partner pushed for me to be sent to gyne and not just fobbed off to take me home.

  5. Review titled Has to be UK’s worst hospital

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 September 2024

My aunt who hasn’t been in an a&e department in over 21 years had to unfortunately visit York A&E department on Thursday 12th Sept. After going to Selby minor injuries to be told her blood pressure was at 238/118 and to immediately go to A&E at York was greeted by the a receptionist and a very unfriendly nurse both looking like they were chewing wasps. She was then left with blood pressure so high she was at risk of a stroke sat in a waiting are which may I add was actually half empty for 2.5 hrs before even being seen by a triage nurse. Total wait 8.5 hrs to be told by clearly an incompetent and disinterested dr that he didn’t deal in blood pressure and there was no cardiologist available? It’s an emergency department for crying out loud. She was sent home with blood pressure still the same and told to speak with gp for a cardiology referral. She visited her gp at 3.30pm on the 13th and was told she was extremely high risk of a stroke and under no circumstances should she have been sent home from a&e the night before. She was admitted to Emergency Medical Assessment by the GP where she has currently spent another 9 hrs plus. Sort it out York Hospital, it’s not even below average on its care for patients they genuinely do not care, worst rates maternity unit which as a family we’ve also experienced. The nhs has gone to the dogs and this hospital is one of the worst.

  6. Review titled First Class Service Start to Finish

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 October 2024

My wife and I recently had our first child delivered in September through York Hospital Maternity Services. From the first appointment (booking appointment) through triage, delivery and our latest midwifery led postpartum check up, we couldn't have asked for more. Every member of staff we came across was friendly and knowledgeable and couldn't do enough for us. We felt fully supported throughout and if ever we had a query or concern it was addressed immediately. The facilities on the maternity ward themselves were always immaculately clean, credit to the team responsible for maintaining such high standards. From a facilities perspective one minor improvement might be increasing the size of the bedspaces allocated to c-section recovery parents and newborns after delivery as this became really quite uncomfortable. Also, our little one arrived at close to six p.m which meant i, as Father, had to leave quite soon after the birth as visiting hours ended at eight p.m. This was quite upsetting for my wife who wasn't able to hold or lift the newborn as she recovered from surgery. Had it not been for a most wonderful midwife looking after him throughout the night and reassuring Mum this could have been a really difficult night with no rest and thus hindering recovery. With our sincere thanks to that midwife whose service and care that night epitomised the high standard of care we received throughout this process. Whilst i can't name them all here but a huge thank you to all the team, especially those who supported us over the weekend of delivery, we are eternally grateful. Keep up the fantastic work.

  8. Review titled Outstanding team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by MALCOLM FIRTH - Posted on 10 August 2024

I was referred to eye clinic by Vision Express on the 7th August and was seen the next day 08-08-24 by the day clinic. All the day clinic staff were amazing from triage to Consultants. Procedures were explained in detail providing me with full explanations of process and possible outcomes. I was readmitted for surgery on the 9th next day and again the service although pressure in time was outstanding. The treatment was second to none. The support staff and sister preparing me for surgery were amazingly helpful. Bless them didn’t even get lunch which I think needs address as by 4pm were visibly tired and flagging. Consultants were available to speak with and answered any questions addressing personal concerns. This department deserve a gold award thank you all the whole team for your care

  9. Review titled Rock Star Treatment.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Arrived at A&E 31/08/2024 08:15am, with stomach pain, examined by a doctor who sent me for a scan, the results showed a perforated appendix. The doctor explained I would be having an operation later that day. Arrived into theatre at 16:15 pm, the operation was a successful removal of the appendix. Discharged Monday 02/10/2024. Very happy to be going home for some rest and relaxation. Just wanted to say a big thank you to all the staff at York hospital for the great care and attention I received. Rock star treatment.

  10. Review titled Outstanding Endoscopy Treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Pamela Ludolf - Posted on 06 July 2024

Having a colonoscopy procedure isn’t something one would normally wax lyrical about, but on Tuesday, from the moment I was handed into the care of the Endoscopy Department to leaving Recovery, I was treated with great kindness and patience. Every single person, who I came into contact with, ensured I was comfortable, understood the process and provided me with great dignity. My doctor was the epitome of a truly caring and gentle professional, who took the time to put me at my ease and explain what was happening throughout. I honestly felt I received five star treatment from this wonderful department! York Hospital, I applaud and sincerely thank you.
