Review titled Excellent
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Kim Middleton - Posted on 15 April 2024
I had a lesion removed from my leg in Outpatients, referred on a Dermatology 2 Week Wait. I have had a lot of these procedures over a 30 year period so I have plenty of experience for comparison. The care I received at the hands of the Nurse Specialist performing the procedure and the nurses assisting her was excellent. They were kind, caring, patient and professional; I could not have asked for better.

Review titled Huge Gratitude
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Laura - Posted on 19 April 2024
I would just like to pass on my huge gratitide to the Ophthalmology Team. After visiting my GP, I was promptly contacted by the Team to be seen immediately. Ground staff and reception were very helpful to guide me, and a big thank you especially to the nurse who was so kind to me and assisted with photgraphing my eye, and the Doctor, who was able to assure me, and carry out my procedure so promptly and professionally! My sincere thanks and compliments to them. It is wonderful to be able to see from my right eye again. It was initially very daunting for me under such circumstances, especially as I had never been to Torbay Hospital before, however everyone was so helpful and friendly. Thank you very much!

The care I received from arriving by ambulance going into A and E, being admitted onto two different wards was first class. From the consultants, nurses, cleaners, technicians, doctors, physios, and lovely staff the care was superb. The hospital is a credit to the NHS. Thank you.

Review titled Nobody explains anything
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Kerry johnston - Posted on 10 April 2024
My mother has been told that they're looking for the spread of cancer via the consultant drawing a diagram and writing it down but not explaining anything. eg my mother doesn't know if she has cancer of the pancreas 100percent as she hasn't been told via speech. She has had 2 ct scans over 3 weeks ago and has only now just been told by the doc that he's forgot to open the results and the surgery will call her back. She's had mri 3rd april and was told to expect a call from nurse to explain next steps etc 1 week later ! Now they want to back track and do a biopsy. She hasn't had a pain plan and is in absolute agony. No further farwrd than we was when my mother went in via ambulance to a&e at your hospital 6 weeks ago. This service is just not good enough

I have just spent 8 days on Ainslie Ward with multiple fractures following a fall. I cannot praise the staff and organisation enougb. The care I received was second to none from the medical team to the catering, porters and cleaning staff. I don’t think my recovery would have been so good without the nurturing I received from these wonderful caring people. Thank you all.

Review titled Heartfelt thanks
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 15 March 2024
Thank you for the compassion and kindness afforded to my brother and I with the death of our mother. I can’t begin to express how much what the charge nurse & her staff on the Midgley ward, the Bereavement Office and the staff in the Morgue did means to us. I flew in from Canada for a trip that basically lasted 48hrs and I was able to say my goodbyes to her. As a health care practitioner myself, I know medical systems around the world are struggling. Yet their staff are still going above and beyond to provide exemplary care to their patients and loved ones. I hope that this goes a small way into expressing how much we appreciated you all.

Review titled Very professional and caring across many departments .
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Peter Payne - Posted on 11 May 2024
I progressed quickly through assessments and examinations following the identification of colon cancer . Reassurance and kindness were always offered together with professional and technical information. My route was through Endoscopy , the specialist staff and nurses of the Colorectal team , the supervising Multi Disciplinary team , the Surgical Admissions Team , the CT staff , the anaesthetics and theatre teams , the staff of the Intensive Care unit and Hutchings and Allerton Wards and especially my excellent Colorectal Consultant ….. All played a huge part in caring for me during my 5 day stay together with the domestic staff of the hospital. It all sounds a formidable gathering of skills , and indeed it was , but it was presented in a logical and caring format . My op , with keyhole surgery , was entirely satisfactory , and my pre op anxieties were sensitively addressed and my short period of in-house convalescence quickly passed . I returned home with guidance on what I could and couldn’t do and a firm admonition on not lifting anything heavier than a bag of sugar for a while but with instructions to return to gentle exercise a.s.a.p . 8 weeks later I am feeling well and hugely grateful to all the many staff at Torbay Hospital who had a helping hand to offer in my recovery . I have gone into some detail above to try to reassure anyone else who follows my path that they could not wish for kinder and more helpful people . Thank you Torbay Hospital ….. I am cancer free and with a monitoring programme that will keep an eye on me in the future . Peter .

I had a lung flow test today and would like to say how professional and friendly the respiratory technician was. He put me at ease and talked me through the process and explained what this meant at every stage stage. Excellent treatment!
