  1. Review titled Poor dementia care

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 November 2022

My mum was brought in on an emergency from a care home. Paramedics and A & E were lovely and considerate to both my mum and myself, but when she was moved to Allerton Ward, the experience went right down hill. The staff were not dementia friendly and her needs were largely ignored. I remained with her the majority of time and she was left in sodden pads resulting in a wet bed. I notified when she needed to toilet multiple times but she was told to just wee in the bed. Throughout the day, not once did they check her pads or change her. This distressed her greatly with what was already a very frightening experience for her. I notified them that she needed prompting and encouragement to eat and drink, yet they did nothing, despite saying they were concerned she hadn't eaten or drank anything. I helped her and slowly she started to eat and drink again! Luckily she was only there 2 days, but I was appalled at the lack of care and support. All staff should be dementia friendly trained and understand their needs. It would of been so much worse if I hadn't been there to help and hold her hand!!! In some areas this hospital excels, but in this area, they are very poor!

  2. Review titled Lovely kind staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 February 2023

Although the pressures on the NHS are extreme and the wait time was to be expected, the care I received from the triage nurse, HCA and nurse practitioner was fantastic. I was kept informed of the next step at all times and really felt listened to. Triage nurse had a great sense of humour. The catering and reception staff were also lovely. I know things are tough but just wanted to say very impressed with the department and thank you all!

  3. Review titled Gratitude

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have had a number of conversation with OT and physio community services. The people I spoke with could not have been more helpful, informative and friendly. They were all wonderful and ok so there is a wait for appointments, but appointments can not be made out of thin air! But wanted to say a big thank you.

  5. Review titled Calm and kind under pressure

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 October 2022

My four year old son suddenly became breathless with a high temperature during a family holiday, which turned out to be croup but could have been secondary drowning. After phone calls to 111 and 999, he was taken by ambulance to A&E at Torbay at midnight and we could not have asked for better care. The paramedics were amazing; calming and reassuring us whilst making quick decisions about our son’s care. The hospital staff went into great detail with the patient history they took and made sure we were listened to and informed at every stage of treatment. After five hours we were discharged with a much-improved son, and a great feeling of relief. We want to express our thanks to everyone who played a part in caring for our son, we could not be more grateful.

  6. Review titled Outstanding Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lise Manda Keating - Posted on 14 October 2022

I had the unfortunate experience of breaking my left ankle, two weeks ago. The care and treatment that I received at both Accident and Emergency and on the Orthopaedic trauma ward was outstanding. The humour, kindness and compassion of the HCA's, nursing staff, raiographers, doctors and consultants was fantastic. A big thumbs up too, for the excellent service from the porters, cleaners and catering staff. Thank you Torbay Hospital for your fantastic service and for being there when we really need you.

I would just like to Thank everyone that cared for my daughter when she was unwell with a persistent high temperature. After some investigation it was concluded she had a chest infection. The care she received was second to none and everyone was absolutely fantastic! You all do such an amazing job, thank-you so much for everything. I have to give a really special Thank-you to the Doctor we saw at my local Surgery who referred us to Torbay. You listened to my concerns and never doubted my mum instincts, that meant so much to me when I have been doubted before. To even check in with us while you were at the hospital shows you are a brilliant Doctor. Thank-you so much!

  9. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My relative was treated by both Respiratory Medicine and the Palliative Care Team. Communication with my relative, and us as a family, was excellent-at every step explanations were given in a kind and compassionate manner. Everybody on the ward on which she was treated took the time to make her feel really well cared for. Her death was handled respectfully and kindly.
