  1. Review titled Fantastic Nurse & Ambulance Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Amazing hard-working staff. I know they have made my family member very comfortable, and he feels very appreciative of their great care and approach. I travelled 2hours down to Torbay as soon as i could and arrive before visiting hours. They kindly directed me toward his room and allowed me to visit. Thank you so much.

  2. Review titled Outstanding

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julia Homans - Posted on 26 October 2022

The surgeon, and indeed the whole team, were outstanding in the care and treatment they gave me durig a difficult 2 hour procedure. This was a huge contributing factor in eliminating any stress I may have felt beforehand. Everybody was so kind, reassuring and made me feel extremely calm and comfortable even during the procedure. I cannot thank them all enough, especially the nurse who held my hand thoughout and was kindness personified and the wonderful nurses I spoke to in the days prior to the procedure.

  3. Review titled Wonderful care and attention

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John Couth - Posted on 21 September 2022

I received first class care and attention from team members of the Surgical Day Unit, Urology and the nurses in the post operative care ward. All were extremely attentive, excellent communicators, friendly and professional. They have all my gratitude.

  4. Review titled Waiting

Rated 1 star out of 5

Waiting in A&E - 5 hrs and counting. I was expecting a wait but really this is just disgraceful. Staff not helpful at all when I asked having been told at the start that it wouldn’t be long.

Dear Patient, I am so sorry to hear that you had such a disappointing experience at Torbay hospital. This is clearly not what we would want for any of our patients. We take all patient experiences and opinions very seriously. Please be assured your concerns have been shared with the department for their review and action. Kind regards.

  5. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Pat and Joan - Posted on 11 October 2022

My wife was admitted to Torbay hospital by ambulance with what turned out to be a severe gastric infection. The ambulance arrived within 20 minutes and on arrival at the hospital she was admitted straight into the assessment room with no waiting. The care and treatment throughout was excellent - Ambulance staff, Accident and Emergency, Cheetham Hill Ward, and of course all the other departments behind the scenes. They were all very skilled and professional. More than that as a family we were very impressed with the warm, kindly, caring, cheerful demeanour of all the nurses, doctors, and specialists involved. They took time to communicate and were very patient with us if we asked them to explain again (so important to we older ones maybe hard of hearing and not familiar with medical terms). We must mention too the the excellent work done by the catering and cleaning teams. We appreciate that a big hospital like Torbay is a very busy place, and that you are dealing with a multitude of health issues, and that you cannot perform miracles. But what you do you do very well. Your service to the community is priceless. Thank you. And a big “Thank you” from my wife, my family, and me.

  6. Review titled First class experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jenny Windle - Posted on 02 November 2022

I was on holiday in Kingswear when early in the morning I slipped on the bathroom floor. This fall resulted in my patella breaking into two. Our call to 111 brought a first responder who phoned for an ambulance to take me to Torbay for x-rays etc. I felt safe and reassured by the ambulance crew and was taken to an extremely busy A&E department. There the staff, especially the clinician on duty, were kind, patient, respectful, and caring. All my fears were taken away. I had gas and air and morphine and was under their care for some hours. The orthopaedic surgeon came and explained that the operation needed could not be done for at least a week because there was a backlog of operations, and as we were in holiday accommodation, this posed a problem for my family. It was suggested that I could stay, or perhaps the best alternative was for me to travel back to Derbyshire, where hopefully my local hospital would be able to operate quickly. My leg was placed in a brace and I was provided with painkillers. Strangers to the hospital, my family had to find the car and bring it to the A&E dept but I was not left alone at any time, which was much appreciated. The care was wonderful! I returned home next day and after a weekend, was admitted, had the operation and am now recovering at home.

  7. Review titled Caring, dedicated staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Terry - Posted on 11 October 2022

I was taken in as an emergency case whilst on holiday and treated both professionally and with a high level of genuine care and attention. Also, I was treated with dignity and my beliefs and requirements were fully and hapily respected and I was at no point made to feel an inconvenience. I have had to visit a few hospitals around the country in the past due to a sick family member, but Torbay Hospital really stands out for the friendly, kind, caring manner of it's staff in all the departments I visited. Thank you

  8. Review titled Heart attack and insertion of 2 stents

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by George Seager Berry - Posted on 02 November 2022

After a mild heart attack early on 28th. Sept. I was taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital where I was cheerfully received and signed in at about noon. The A&E reception area was busy. All of the staff were constantly busy yet were always cheerful, polite, caring and reassuring. With so many patients needing to be assessed it took until about midnight for me to be taken through the numerous tests before I was taken to the Heatherington Ward. Thank you for the facility to get my mobile partly recharged. On the ward I was cheerfully greeted and briefed. Every subsequent procedure was most efficiently processed by cheerful professionals and staff. The catering was excellent and the choice impressive. I read the most helpful literature provided for me.The doctor carefully explained what would happen. Periodically someone came and carefully cleaned the ward. The procedure was very professional and painless. The porter who wheeled my to the recovery place was very busy and fortunately was able just in time to bring name a"Pee" bottle. I recommend that patients, particularly the older ones, are advised to urinate before they are taken to theatre. I was well looked after post operation. Before departure I was carefully briefed as to what would happen. I was told about my pills and what they were intended to do.The Patient Information booklet was most informative and helpful. I was amazed how quickly everything happened and how soon I could go home. The whole experience has been exceptional. My sincere thanks and congratulations to all concerned.
