Review titled Great hospital
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Danielle Price - Posted on 15 February 2025
I was admitted to the A and E department and was in severe pain. Straight away up on arrival although I was waiting in the A and E department they did give me pain meds untill I was seen by the drs. I was admitted to the majors unit and as soon as I was seen by the nurse there she was great. Through was polite attentive and through with her assessment being sensitive and considerate all the time. The dr I was seen by was amazing. He was totally professional he’s listening skills was outstanding and due to that I was able to speak freely and say whst was bothering me and speak about my diagnosis and a lot of other thinks to that iv not been able get off of my chest. I then spent time with the lovely nurse who comforted me whej st the time I got an email that due to its nature I couldn’t even read it all and got so upset and destraught. She listened to me and comforted me while I spoke aboit this allowed me to compose myself . All in all the staff there was amazing. Proper service proper staff excellent care. Above and beyond. All in all an outstanding quality of service and experience. Thank you ucl

Review titled Great Doctors, nurses and staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Shiva Nikkhou - Posted on 06 February 2025
My son, suffering from severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting, was admitted to Barnet Hospital for five days. Despite receiving a misdiagnosis of a bacterial infection and being prescribed strong antibiotics, he was discharged without any improvement. A week later, his condition worsened significantly to the point where walking became difficult for him. As soon as we arrived at the emergency department of ucl Hospital, the triage nurse immediately transferred him to the major emergency unit, where a doctor promptly examined him. After multiple tests, including scans, ultrasounds, endoscopy, and more, the gastroenterology team diagnosed his condition as Inflammation bowel disease . With a comprehensive treatment plan, multiple medications, and exceptional care, my son gradually improved day by day. I sincerely appreciate the kind and professional behavior of the entire medical and nursing team, as well as the catering staff, who all worked together like a caring family to provide the best care for patients.

Review titled Excellent treatment for the Endocrine Surgical Team
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 12 January 2025
My treatment by the Endocrine Surgical Team was superb. An excellent result with care taken to produce not only a cure but a very pleasing cosmetic result. The Consultant Surgeon was extremely informative, kind and obviously highly skilled. I would also comment that the hospital was spotlessly clean and that all the equipment was impressive, including the blow-up heated blankets. Wow! I would not hesitate to recommend this department to friends and family. In fact I have already recommended the surgeon to my dentist. I would like to mention the surgeon by name but I note that this is not permitted, which is a shame. It is just unfortunate that communication with this hospital is so dire, which leads to frustration for patients. Otherwise it would have been a perfect experience.

Review titled Great service and patient care

Kudos to the wonderful doctor who gave me Uitrasound guided steroidal injections this morning for my rheumatoid arthritis. He engaged me into a conversation, gave me full details of the procedure and aftercare. The sting of the injection and discomfort was easily tolerated by me thanks to the engaging discussion. Once the procedure finished, the aftercare instructions were repeated and I was given a warm send off with festive greetings. This otherwise painful procedure became turned out to be an uplifting factor for me and I wish there were more such doctors who could have such a positive impact on patients.

This is the best experience I’ve had at any doctor or hospital appointment. Both Doctor and Nurse were super friendly, thoroughly explained procedure and the nurse could tell I was nervous so held my hand. Made an uncomfortable appointment so comfortable. Thank you

Review titled Questionable ……
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Paul Devine - Posted on 18 January 2025
I need a knee replacement and am in pain. I unfortunately was given my first date but my father died so could not make an operation date… a month or so later was given a new date. I d had Covid back to back and was not well. I had questions about the procedure but no one to answer. I never met a Dr . With heart rate issues and overall being unwell I said I can’t have an operation. I got removed from the list. Perhaps I was better off like this but at no time did I speak to a Dr or anaesthetist only HCSAs and an Administrator. Now my cardiac issues are confirmed- I am glad I was lucky not to have given in to surgery but should checks not take place? However it is unfair I have been struck off

Review titled Shocking behaviour
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 01 August 2024
A month ago, I had a fall and ended up with multiple fractures in my wrist and nose. I was seen at the A&E department where they placed me in a temporary cast and referred me to the Fracture Clinic. The medical staff at the Orthopaedics department were all polite and excellent in the way they dealt with me whilst I was there. However, the behaviour of the reception/admin staff have left me feeling shocked and shaken. It started when I arrived at the clinic nearly two weeks ago. The person at the reception desk was entirely uninterested in their job, and listening to music via an airpod in one ear. A few times when I asked who I would need to see to correct my name that had been spelt wrong, they actually completely ignored me, and when I asked again, they looked as if I was a nuisance and said “huh?”. When I asked again, they said “dunno”, shrugged and looked down again. I let it slide, it wasn’t worth anyone’s time. Fast forward nearly two weeks later, I still haven’t received any communication regarding my follow-up appointment that I and my GP were told would be exactly two weeks after the first one (i.e. in two days). I have tried to contact the department several times this week and been told to wait for a call within one day. This hasn’t happened. Finally, today, after being put on hold for a long time, the person on the phone managed to get hold of another admin person. Not only wasn’t there any apology or acknowledgement of the problem, this second person wanted to give me an appointment in mid-August, and said in a harsh tone “we can’t just book an appointment for two days, we need to contact the consultant and ask”. I was disappointed, but understood the situation. At this point, I tried many times to ask what my plan B was if no one contacted me. Not once was I able to finish my sentence! Every single time, this person cut me off, spoke over me in a condescending way, repeating the same thing. I finally said “can I speak to someone else please” as this was rude behaviour. They then accused me of speaking over them, even though I’d been quiet up to the point of trying to ask a simple question. When I repeated that I wanted to speak to someone else, a new person took the phone, and started berating me for “speaking over people” without hearing a word from me first – clearly blindly supporting their colleague. All the while, I’m hearing the previous person loudly talking about me and ridiculing me in the background. I just gave in at this point and ended the call nearly in tears. I cannot believe these people are allowed to deal with potentially vulnerable people in this way and get away with it. I am still in a cast; my skin is reacting to it and peeling. I was hoping it would be removed in two days, like I was told it would be. But now, I’m at the mercy of these people and don’t know what to do.

Review titled Impressive ITU care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Came into University College Hospital for jaundice and blocked biliary duct. Unblocking procedure caused life threatening pancreatitis. Spent 2+ months in Critical Care unit of third floor then same again in Adult ward. While in Intensive care, pancreatitis caused multi organ failure. Doctors and nurses treated me for every possible ailment and went above and beyond with multi disciplinary meetings to decide courses of action. Patient Family were welcomed and encouraged to feel comfortable and to help patient to stay alive. In most cases, family were kept well informed when patient too poorly to engage with medical decisions (a couple of scary exceptions were probably the result of consultants being run off their feet during a week long period of duty). This ward definitely saved my life by throwing every medical resource at a critical patient - including sensitivity and humour. Two months is a long time to be in a critical care ward, but they made it as welcoming as possible and always made sure to take good care. Even if every consultant had a different style - which was confusing at times as a patient, but probably also helped save my life. The only suggestion I would make is to see if there’s a way to improve communication, especially during consultant change-over, as those were the times when we received information that felt confusing and sometimes sounded scary or dangerous because it seemed to go directly against the advice of the previous consultant — only sometimes, not always. Overall the care was absolutely impressive, attentive, kind, detailed, and definitely life saving.
