Review titled Excellent Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Kathryn Cain - Posted on 12 April 2023
I had a gastroscopy and colonoscopy yesterday. Apart from the initial check in which could have been a little more friendly, all the staff were lovely, caring and gentle, and it was a totally positive, friendly atmosphere. I really enjoyed myself!! Thank you so much to everyone on endoscopy.

Review titled All around good service

We have been in hospital several times between December 2022 and February 2023. All relating to our toddler being sick in various ways. Each time we were seen quickly, taken seriously and given a good experience. Almost every time it was a diffrent member of staff in either A and E children's area of the inpatients ward. Each doctor/nurse/staff were amazing. Communicated well and looked over my child properly

Review titled Brilliant emergency care poor ward care by some
Rated 2 stars out of 5

Entering the children’s ward you are most likely to find staff sat in family room chatting, my experience has seen awful standards of attitude and care from day shift but night shift is a complete contrast and we’re brilliant. So let’s start we have a nurse that left the young patient with no oxygen turned on after having a nebuliser other nursing staff came in and adjusted the flow of oxygen upwards to assist the struggling breathing patient but clearly would help when after about 5 hours of this the original member of staff came in checked the air line then clicked it into the wall properly never said a work or apologised, drs in the morning say to remove a feed tube as not required and have to ask several times in the afternoon for this to be done, monitored formula feeding having to wait over half an hour for a bottle so felt no choice but to go purchase my own so I can stick to the care plan on feeding. These are just a couple of instances the list does go on including attitude of certain staff. My final comments are that west Cumberland children’s ward is more of a do it yourself ward during my stay with my ill child I honestly felt like I would rather travel the extra 2 hours to a Newcastle hospital. No one ever wants to be in hospital but I certainly would never wish my child here again. The few spoil the reputation of most of the staff in this instance. The drs are brilliant and the anaesthetists are out standing, I can’t thank them enough.

Review titled Gall bladder day surgery
by A very satisfied user - Posted on 14 December 2022
My wife was admitted to the Day Surgery Unit of West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven for an operation to remove her gall bladder. The treatment she received was faultless, from being greeted by a nurse who told us that she would be the named nurse for her stay, and who was so friendly and reassuring, to the staff on Ward 1B where my wife had to be taken for an overnight stay. This was required as my wife was the last on the list and her operation took longer because of a minor complication, but she was well looked after, her room was spotless and when I phoned to find out how she was doing, which I did on a number of occasions, the nurses who answered were unfailingly polite, friendly and reassuring. This level of care in the nursing and surgical teams was mirrored by the cleaning staff who worked tirelessly to ensure the cleanliness of the area. So please pass on a huge thank you to the whole surgical team, to the nursing staff involved and to the cleaners, who made the whole experience far less worrying than it might have been. Thank you all.

Needed to attend after 111 phone call advise. Very caring nursing staff in triage. Saw two consultants who agreed on what needed to be done. Everything carried out very professionally but also empathetically. Spent half a day in the ward for treatment. The hospital was very clean and tidy with staff constantly on the move on a busy day. I am starting to feel better and would like to thank all the staff for their caring and friendly attitude. I was kept informed at all times of what the staff would be doing. Many thanks, E M
