Review titled Terrible A&E
by Anonymous - Posted on 13 November 2024
I came in for chest pain, heart palpitations and difficulty breathing. It took 2 hours to get an ECG, 4 hours to get a blood test and 6 hours to get pain relief. Any questioning for updates is met with dismissive and rude "you have to sit and wait" comments from staff, even when just asking what the next steps are in the process. I completely understand that more important and urgent cases need to be seen first. I get this. But the attitude from staff, the lack of any care for patients who are just left to wait and suffer is appalling. Two people next to me were partially paralysed and were made to wait upwards of 13 hours. I will never be coming back here.

Staff sat on phones taking pictures laughing and joking once your seen in triage you should be directed to either a doctor or nurse who can quickly diagnose minor injuries etc and sent on the way if nothing serious you see triage then have to wait 6-8 hours for someone else waiting rooms full drunks and people sleeping need a better system in place 1000 percent shouting people 5 6 times when they've clearly left the building aswell if your shouted and ain't there you should be put to back of the list

Review titled Great treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ann - Posted on 03 December 2024
I was referred by GP for immediate assessment (Fri 1.20 pm) As always it was bustling and busy and had people waiting. I waited patiently and they quickly confirmed I had cardiac block and needed to wait for a bed, a pacemaker and to be constantly monitored. Fri a few hours later, a room in A & E was found and had regular checks on me. I was waiting for a bed on cardio ward upstairs which was vacated Saturday eve at 11pm. All the nurses were great despite the massive work load and demands of other patients. Only thing I struggled with was no patient toilets access (the general public used the same one). Ideally there should be a separate one for patients and public. Also, having checked the boredom cupboard courtesy of a sympathetic nurse there were no books to borrow (I had finished mine). Otherwise excellent care taken

Hi Ann, Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, about your recent visit to our emergency department at Whiston hospital and your stay on one of our cardio wards. We are glad to hear that you are happy with the care you received from staff during your stay here. But also apologise for any inconvenience caused due to patients and the public accessing the same toilet facilities, unfortunately this is due to limited facilities within the department. However, we will share your feedback with the relevant departments, as we are sure the staff involved in your care would love to receive your feedback. While the other relevant departments look into the facilities aspect. Best wishes, Patient Experience and Inclusion Team

I have just got back home after bringing my baby in for a head CT scan. Every one of the staff on Ward 3F were lovely and caring and made me feel so much better in a worrying time for me. They made me feel so at home and were so helpful and kind. Can’t thank all the staff enough they are amazing at what they do.

We arrived at 12.10 lunchtime, and triage at 12.20. Taken through to a bay with a bed for my husband, seen by a lovely nurse clinician sent for x-rays and a scan, seen by senior doctors on two occasions, allowed to go home with a follow-up appointment, Back home all in 4 hours, the A&E was packed out! A massive 5🌟 to all the staff! Kind caring heroes.

Review titled Tale of two visits
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Oliver K - Posted on 30 August 2024
Recently attended the A&E department with a neck problem... First visit was okay, was triaged and saw a nurse practitioner who was very nice. As my condition was a worsening of a cervical neck issues was issued some extra pain relief and given some physio exercises to do... nothing serious just a neck sprain... So off I went, well a week later and after the agonising pain got even worse my GP sends me back to A&E, so was triaged and this time saw a consultant who kindly got me an MRI scan the next day. So I had my scan and saw a younger doctor who was very through who upped my meds and refered me on to neurosurgery for my neck pain. Don't get me wrong wait times are horrific, but when your sat there watching the doctors and nurses flying about its plain to see the pressure they are under, and some of the abuse they put up with is awful... For my part I would like to say thank you, my first vist obviously didn't have a great out come. However the young doctor who I saw on my second visit was amazing, she was obviously rushed off her feet but still delivered great care and got me sorted out. Top notch care from our amazing NHS, the doctors, nurses and the radiographer were all amazing.

Dear Oliver, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about two recent consecutive visits to ED at Whiston Hospital, it is much appreciated. We are sorry that your condition deteriorated further and meant that you had to revisit the Department. The path or disease is sometimes unclear but we are pleased that you are now awaiting further specialist investigation. Thank you for your patience and understanding of the pressures facing all hospitals, especially at a difficult time for you. I will make sure that your feedback is shared with the ED team who will pleased to receive it. Wishing you a good ongoing journey of treatment and speedy recovery
