  1. Review titled First Class Procedure

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Alma Tickle - Posted on 16 August 2022

I was admitted for a complete hip replacement procedure, within 5 hours after admission and after my operation had been undertaken, I was allocated to the John Charnley Wing and allowed visitors that same day. I received visits also from the Consultant, Physiotherapist as well as thorough monitoring on an hourly basis from the nursing team. I was also provided with details of those family/friends who had enquired regarding my progress. I was situated in a private suite which was "user friendly" very quiet and comfortable. Food was excellent with choices and was nicely presented to me. My visitors were also made very welcome and on the day of my discharge my visitor was allowed to remain with me for over 5 hours until x-rays and blood tests confirmed that my discharge was appropriate. The period from admission to discharge was only 60 hours which is remarkable given the magnitude of the procedure. I was accompanied by a member of the nursing team to my transport to ensure that I would be safely settled into the car for the 30 mile journey home. Since returning home i have received a follow up phone call from your team at Wrightington checking on my progress towards recovery and confirming my follow up appointment in 6 weeks with the Consultant. I have the greatest of respect for all your team for the care I have been given, thank you.

  2. Review titled Blue badge parking...dismal!

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Wrightington is a centre of excellence for orthopaedics. With this in mind I would like to say how awful parking is for disabled people. There are simply not enough spaces available near the therapy dept. I need to fully open my car door to get in and out, I use two crutches. Parking in the top car park is simply not an option. It really stresses me out, I worry more about getting a disabled parking space than the actual treatment, thats simply not right. My friend who uses a rollator has actually missed two appointments now as she couldnt get a space. Its awful, its stressful. Please do something about it...I attend hospital twice a week and its stressing me out!!!

Thank you for your posting, which I have shared with the Car Parking Manager, who advises that the Trust is undertaking a review of the number of disabled spaces at Wrightington to see if we can alleviate any stress in this regard. On entering the site, if you take the first left at the small roundabout there are at least 10 disabled bays marked up within a very short walk of the hospital in addition to the ones that we have outside outpatients. The Trust hopes that the parking will become better, and the Car Parking Manager is sorry that this has caused you stress. Yours sincerely Vicky Bolton Patient Relations and PALS Manager
