I was advised to take my 4 year old daughter here because she had a hand injury that didn't seem to be improving & our nearest minor injuries unit didn't have any appointments. I phoned ahead to check I didn't need an appointment (I had to bring our newborn with me, too) & was told curtly just to bring her in. The receptionists were very efficient & we were told that there would be about a 30 min wait. We waited about 45 mins, which was fine & saw the doctor who looked at my daughter's hand & said that they had no more appointments, had closed the unit to new patients & that I needed to come back tomorrow... I was advised to give her painkillers & rest her hand. All of this is sound advice & I'm reassured that it's not a serious injury, but I'm so confused as to why I wasn't told on the phone or at reception that the unit was too busy to take new patients. I've wasted nearly a couple of hours once I've factored in the drive there & home & the waiting time, when we would have been better off staying at home! Also, the loos were pretty grim.

From the bottom of my heart I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone I came across during my visit to the hospital. From the paramedics to the doctors, nurses, physio’s & therapists they were all amazing and I cannot thank them enough for the care and attention myself and my family received. It’s amazing we have such healthcare as the NHS and all of these people involved are a testament to that and I cannot praise them enough. Thank you all so much

  6. Review titled Polite and friendly staff

by RebeccaF - Posted on 20 July 2023

My daughter had injured her foot in a dance competition and the following morning it was still painful. After calling 111, I decided to take her to MIU at High Wycombe. Upon arrival, the two people on reception were incredibly polite and friendly. We were greeted and spoken to in a really caring way with a smile, which is something that is fairly rare. We were seen and treated within a very reasonable time scale considering the pressures the NHS are under - especially being as it was the beginning of the strike action for junior doctors. Thank you so much to all staff, particularly the reception staff for making this a pleasant visit.

  7. Review titled This is not an urgent centre

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Today, 09/07/2023 I took my 6 year old son to the emergency department in High Wycombe after a bite from an insect or something similar. The nurse who was supposed to check the patients, told us that this needs to be cleaned and we should wait, but the queue is long and we might have to wait for 4 hours. We came in 11.30 and there were patients that were coming after us, but they were proceed to the doctors. Finally it was 5.20 pm when they told us that we are next. The doctor checked the place but there was nothing, only a small red swallow, and there was no need to be treated unless there was temperature or big red swallow. I guess the bite was not so serious to be treated, but someone should told us while the nurse was examining my son. So I asked her why we were waiting for nearly 6 hours for nothing, and why the nurse that saw this first didn’t tell us this, there was no answer. So I wonder why this department is called urgent treatment department when you wait for 6 hours to be seen by a doctor. I had bad experience with this department a month ago, but I didn’t write anything. My advice is: Don’t go to this department even if it’s urgent, just wait for 6 hours and the pain will be gone.

  8. Review titled Fantastic service

    by Exnurse82 - Posted on 20 July 2023

My mum had an all day appointment in MUDAS at High Wycombe Hospital and because of her condition and forgetfulness I stayed with her. Being a former ward sister I was so impressed with how kind and compassionate all the staff who had contact with us were. They were hardworking and thorough. We were given some upsetting news and mum is going to be put on the cancer 2 week care pathway for investigations. I was particularly impressed by the doctor who assessed mum who was so kind, caring and compassionate throughout. I do so often hear bad things about the NHS but not so on this occasion. Huge thanks to MUDAS.

I had day case gall bladder removal surgery and the whole experience was top class. The nurses, anaesthetists, surgeons and student nurses were kind, knowledgeable, informative, efficient and generally fabulous. I am very impressed and very grateful.

Following a surgical procedure, I spent two days in Ward 12c. I cannot praise the staff enough for the excellent care and attention. Everyone was efficient, helpful and courteous and made my brief stay as comfortable as possible. Also a word to your catering staff; the meals were very enjoyable. My sincere thanks to all the team.
