Review titled Above and beyond
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jack Schofield - Posted on 28 March 2025
Good communication detailing appointment times and expectations made for an easy introduction to diagnosis and prospective treatment. Initial appointment began with a friendly reassuring welcome and then escorted through the diagnostics where every process was fully explained. At the end of the process I was given a booklet explaining future processes, information about the operation, outcomes and of course possible complications. Shortly after the first appointment the date and time was received and I attended my first of two operations but felt very relaxed taking into account my initial visit. Reception staff were again friendly, supportive and clearly explained the event of the visit. My surgeon introduced himself and reassuringly discussed what was going to happen. I went through the pre op processes and then escorted through to theatre where I was prepared for my operation. The whole process went very quickly and at no time did I feel anxious or any discomfort. I was then escorted back to reception area and after being asked questions regarding my welfare and that my return journey home was by a third party was informed that I was welcome to leave. I was given specific eye drops to be administered on a daily basis. I was contacted by phone seven days later were I was questioned about my recovery, any perceived possible issues and given information re. emergency contact details. A week later a second operation was scheduled and the whole process was repeated. The whole experience has been been so professional, reassuring and life changing for which I will be eternally grateful.

Review titled Poor service

Was not given any help, all referral details such as web pages and email addresses were non-functioning. Was told I would be contacted, never happened. Wonder is it worth the bother and should I seek help elsewhere

Review titled Very prompt service, extremely professional and caring.
Rated 5 stars out of 5

When I arrived at the clinic I was dealt with straight away. and had everything explained clearly and precisely. After a short break I was taken for my operation. All went very smoothly, no pain and everything was explained as it happened. It was all over quite soon. After a short break the consultant had a chat with me in his office and I was given directions on follow up self treatment (injection programme) I was then allowed to leave.

I cannot thank the staff and surgeon enough at Aces in Wisbech for their faultless care. I attended recently for repeat cataract surgery and was understandably very nervous. Everyone that I saw was professional, caring and kind. Thank you so much for taking such great care of me.

Review titled Very poor experience

I took my mum, who has dementia, to Aces Cambridge for a cataract operation at the beginning of the year. In the first instance, appointments were very difficult to organise with Aces each time we needed one. There was lots of "we don't have any appointments this month and we don't have the rotas for next month yet" and we'll call you back" which they never did. The first appointment, we waited an hour for the consultation and eye tests. The second appointment which was for the actual operation, we waited an hour to be told that they didn't have the right lens for the op and we had to come back another day. The third appointment we waited an hour (see a theme here?), she had the op and was sent home with some eye drops. The forth appointment was a follow up, waited an hour, had some tests and we were told that there was fluid behind the eye that needed to drain, she was given more eye drops. The fifth appointment was another follow up and she was told she still had fluid behind the eye and gave her more drops. The last appointment, waited an hour, told the fluid was still there and we'd have to be referred back to the hospital. I took her to the hospital this week to see an ophthalmologist and we were told there's no fluid there and her eye is perfectly fine! Each appointment was during the day so I had to take time off work, it was in Cambridge which is a 40 minute drive for me and then the parking costs of Cambridge on top of that. The whole thing seemed a huge waste of time!

Review titled Fantastic Service and Support
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Nicholas Waddick - Posted on 04 March 2024
I recently had Cataract surgery in both of my eyes at Aces in Thetford. The service was fantastic. The staff where very friendly, helpful, knew exactly what they were doing and went out of their way to put my mind at ease. The surgical team and consultant could not have been better. I would highly recommend asking for a referral to Aces if you need Cataract surgery.

Review titled Very poor after services
Rated 4 stars out of 5

I have had both my eyes done the first one I had no problems whatsoever if fact it went so well it felt that I didn’t have the procedure done. The second one is a different story after 18 days my eye feels gritty and uncomfortable. The follow up phone call is a complete of time it felt that the person who called was reading a monologue off the screen and wasn’t interested in anything that I was saying. Another concern of mine it that you only get a small bottle of Tobradex when I ran out I rang for another bottle to be told that I had to get a Doctors prescription at my surgery that takes five days to get which is no good if the discomfort keeps you awake at night I spoke to someone at my surgery and she said that many of the patients have had similar problems regarding the medication if it a recurring problem I cannot understand why no one does anything about it

Review titled First Class Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Paul Ward - Posted on 08 February 2024
I arrived with my Dad for his procedure, we were received with courtesy and respect. After a few minutes wait my dad had his eyes tested and prepared with drops. Then taken to the treatment room where a friendly practitioner explained the procedure. Everyone was super friendly and professional. Within about 15 minutes we were on our way out. The next day my dads eyesight was completely free of blurred vision. Truly first class service. Thank you.

Review titled Couldn't ask for better care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Louis Bailey - Posted on 19 September 2023
I can't praise enough the care I have received from Aces. From the first phone call to arrange my assessment, through the assessment itself and the actual surgery and finally the follow-up phone call, everyone concerned have been absolutely fantastic. I can't thank them enough.
