Review titled Fails at every step
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Natalie - Posted on 22 August 2024
14 month wait for assessment, psychiatrist was good but the roulette of getting one who is happy to provide medication seems unfair and unless it is offered to all patients, it shouldn’t be allowed. I am still waiting for titration even though I as previously diagnosed in 2018. Advised 7 month wait which has now changed to 10 months, messages left on the portal go unanswered for weeks, currently 7 weeks since I contacted the titration team and still waiting. There is no care or consideration for the patients, they have clearly taken on too many patients and can’t support for them effectively. I would advise against choosing this service at all costs.

Review titled Conflicting feelings on the service due to neglect
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 17 December 2023
I’ve been back and forth with my opinion of psychiatry uk, whilst the service has been okay there are a lot of negatives, for someone with adhd to sit and write forms for multiple hours or remember to attend consultations or remember to check the portal, I can’t say that it’s an inclusive service however my largest qualm is the lack of responsibility, I’m hitting week 3 of no medication because of administrative neglect. My medication isn’t on the shortage list at the moment but because of the lack of communication between my gp and this service, I’ve been left to suffer as a full time worker and student without medication. I only got this far (working and studying) because I was medicated. Now I’m sat here waiting and praying that my medication shows up so I can actually work and studying over the Christmas period without getting disciplined at work for something that isn’t my fault. I had to get involved and be a middle man between my gp and this service just to get my medication sorted when I was assured that wouldn’t ever happen. Overall I haven’t had a bad experience here but for my first bad experience to be something so impactful to my daily life is just horrendous. I would recommend this service but only to those who have the support or ability to be prepared to advocate for themselves when the time comes.

Dear Patient Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are really sorry to hear that you have had issues with our service. You have made several points and I will try to look at these in order. Firstly, the pre-assessment questionnaires. We pride ourselves on being a neurodiverse-friendly organisation and are very aware that some of our patients struggle with our forms. We have undertaken a recent project to make these as user-friendly as possible, but they remain an essential part of our diagnostic process, helping your consultant to form an accurate picture of the struggles you have experienced, both as a child and an adult. We are also working on notification systems to alert patients to upcoming appointment dates and new portal notes posted by our admin and titration teams. Regarding the problems you have experienced during titration, our stocks, like other providers', have been badly affected by the national medication shortages. You have described having to liaise between P-UK and your GP. It is difficult to get a full picture from your review of what has caused this breakdown in communication. However, our Patient Experience Team would be happy to schedule a call to discuss these issues and see how they can help you move forward. If you feel this would be beneficial, please contact the team at: experience@psychiatry-uk.com. Many thanks The Psychiatry-UK Team

Review titled Outstanding Experience - Collaborative and Competent
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 08 January 2024
My wife was recently assessed for adhd by Psychiatry uk and I was thoroughly impressed by the assessment conducted by the consultant. I am also a psychiatrist working for an nhs trust elsewhere and was invited to support my wife during her assessment. I have been very impressed with the user-friendly online interface, ease of access to documents and direct messaging via the website. The assessment itself lasted 50 minutes and we both felt listened-to throughout. The symptoms and our concerns were thoroughly explored by the consultant and the entire process felt collaborative. There was no sense of being rushed or inappropriate reliance on questionnaires alone for making a diagnosis, which was our fear after watching the panorama documentary. The letter was received promptly after the assessment and was comprehensive and felt like a true reflection of the discussion. From this experience, I would thoroughly recommend using Psychiatry uk and wouldn't hesitate to do so myself if needed in future.

Review titled Awful system
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 01 December 2023
A completely online, form filling, note leaving system is awful for titration. It just doesn't work if your response to medication is not 100% simple and positive. Best of all, you'll be reminded all the way that you are taking up too much time and will be discharged without medication if you don't give them positive results before your allocated titration period is over. If you suffer from depression alongside your ADHD, I honestly advise you to stay away. This impersonal, ineffective, and downright uncaring system made me very depressed. The unbothered pharmacist at the other end of my notes never showed any care or effort outside of when they would chastise me for being late to fill in forms, and endless reminders that I had already taken too long to titrate. Left feeling entirely hopeless, with a prescription that doesn't much help and I don't much want - despite the sense that a different system could have actually found medication that might have helped me and saved my life. I could cry.

Review titled Absolutely awful - stay away
Rated 1 star out of 5

I was diagnosed with severe ADHD back in June 2021, at that time I would have recommended Phychiatry UK - thorough video assessment, titrated on medication shortly after, shared care agreement sent to my GP. Great! Only when I started to struggle in September 2023, I thought my medication had stopped working. I went back to Psychiatry UK to ask about discussing medication only to find out they had discharged me with no warning!! Apparently I didn’t respond to a message in their portal - but I had no notification of this message?! Absolutely appalling to discharge a patient without warning when it is only Psychiatry UK who can give the ok to prescribe the controlled medication required to treat ADHD. My gp will now not provide me with my much needed medication. Phychiatry UK basically just said there was nothing they can do and I needed to be referred back as a new patient(!!) but I can’t even be referred back to Psychiatry UK as they aren’t currently accepting NHS referrals! Shocking. Where is the duty of care? To discharge a patient with no warning and to stop their life changing medication with immediate effect (after taking a period of a few months to titrare to the correct dosage!) is inhumane. Avoid!

Dear Patient Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are really sorry to hear that you have had issues with our service. Firstly, please be reassured that we are once again accepting Right to Choose referrals. Could we please encourage you to contact our Patient Experience Team at: experience@psychiatry-uk.com. They will be able to schedule a call to advise you on how to move forward with your medication. We are required to operate a strict discharge policy when we do not receive any engagement from our patients over a certain period. However, we are currently working on increasing the number of notifications we send out during this time to advise patients that there are messages waiting on the portal. The feedback from your call will be really helpful in showing us where we need to make improvements in the future. Many thanks The Psychiatry-UK Team

Review titled Not the best experience
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Sadie - Posted on 05 October 2023
ahhh. I'd like to say my experience has been great but unfortunately I've had a very mixed, frustrating experience. I think it is down to luck as to which dr and supporting staff you get. The positive - having been waiting on a nhs adhd assessment list for 18 months plus, the referral to psychiatryuk was swift and I was diagnosed within 8 months. The assessment was rather short, I was diagnosed and referred onto the titration list. All great, no problems. Titration is where it becomes challenging. It's really difficult to have discussions over a online portal with never the opportunity to have a in person chat with someone. I think a lot gets lost in translation and needs are not met. Multiple people get involved as people need time off and annual leave (understandably) messages to them are left unread, the customer service message you, you message them back, this goes unread, it really doesnt seem like the service has the capacity to give patients the continuity of service needed. I have been with the titration service for a year now. In the last year plus, my initial psychiatrist has left and I've been allocated a second psychiatrist, I had an appointment with them in june. The medication they tried me on in July was unsuccessful (I took it for 10 days, I had a new prescriber for that week, my responding message to her went unread) and since then I've been waiting for a follow up appointment that was scheduled for next week. Yesterday this was cancelled, no reason why, no alternative appointment given, just our appointment team will be in touch. No doubt I'll be waiting another month. I've tried calling and just spent 30 mins on hold to try get some assistance, to then be cut off before reaching the call handler. Its really frustrating, it just drags it out even longer. The whole experience is so disjointed, lacks any personal connection and at times trying the meds is scary, it's a very lonely experience, feel like just another number. I'm looking forward to coming to the end of this process. On the plus side, when you do get to speak to a psychiatrist, they are always very nice.

Review titled Diagnosed me and Discharged me without any reasons
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Natalie - Posted on 27 June 2024
I was diagnosed ADHD last year. They fast tracked me to put me on medication but the council had decanted me to a flat while they made repairs on my home so at the time I did not have proof of address and they didn’t want to send the meds to my house while workmen were there and I couldn’t access them. They immediately discharged me. It took 8 months to wait to become a patient again and after the initial assessment forms they discharged me again saying I was high risk. They diagnosed me and left me without medication or any aftercare services. It’s like they made me wait 8 months to be assessed for a diagnosis again whereas I already have the diagnosis I just need my meds!!! Would not recommend this service as they expect you to be able to fill in tonnes of forms and assessments and attend appointments even if you’re no good at time management or remembering. Although I had went through the stresses of ensuring I completed all forms and jumped through all hoops to no avail. Absolutely pants service.

Dear Natalie, Thank you for leaving your feedback. We are sorry to hear you had a negative experience with Psychiatry UK. However, I would like to clarify that our foremost priority is the safety and well-being of our patients. If our clinicians decide not to prescribe medication, it is because they believe it is not in the patient's best interest for numerous reasons. This decision is always made with careful consideration and the patient's safety in mind. An online platform like ours requires patients to stay engaged and work collaboratively with our clinicians, prescribers, and the entire Psychiatry UK team. It is crucial for the success of the treatment and the safety of our patients. When medication is not prescribed, it is a decision based on professional judgment and patient-specific factors. We hope you understand our commitment to prioritising patient safety and the importance of a team effort in the treatment process. Kind regards, Psychiatry UK

Review titled severe delay in shared care notification to my gp surgery
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Jade Sharif - Posted on 10 October 2023
i had my exit assessment on the 23rd of august 2023, with shared care approved to mean my local gp is to provide my prescription for my adhd medication. despite chasing this letter via customer support, who confirmed on the 12th of september 2023 that the letter was checked and ready to send, this is still not received today. staff have requested this is urgently sent 3 times within the last two weeks. i was meant to be receiving a call and update on monday, this has not happened. due to shortages, i am unable to get my prescription from psychiatry uk. I also am unable to get a prescription written by my gp practice without the letter. meaning that I have no way of sourcing my medication locally and my supply is due to run out in two days time. psychiatry uk are stating they cannot put patients back on medication until february 2024. all i really need is for my gp to be able to take over shared care and i can then attempt to source this locally and avoid a severe delay. it takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes to get through on the phone to psychiatry uk, i have been told that all staff are able to do is mark the letter to be sent as urgent again. please can someone advise how I can escalate this to get the required shared care letter, that I have been told on the 12th of september is checked and ready to send.

Review titled Find someone else
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Lee Paterson - Posted on 29 April 2024
I've been waiting since September 2023 to be seen by this organization. The commutation is almost non-existent. If you look up their waiting list times its more than 18 months. Had I known this from the start I would have asked my GP to refer me to another specialist.Their reviews aren't just bad in relation to their waiting time but they're full of totally disgruntled clients. I've been depressed, both my relationship and my job is on the line while these people except new clients that they have no infrastructure to deal with, it's just corporate greed. They're biting off more than they can chew while leaving people that are desperate for help in a mess. You a "the right to choose" so if you've been left dangling as I was then ask you GP to refer you to someone of your choice. I did 2 weeks ago and I expect to been seen in the next 10 weeks. Had I not done this I could be waiting another 18 months. I just heard from Psychiatry-UK today for the first time in months. They requested some more information from me and I'm to submit it within the next 3 months (no hurry then lol). From my experience this organization is a dead loss. I'd urge you to look them up on social media and on review sites. I think you'll find that not only am I right about the long waiting times but most people didn't think they helped them at all. I honestly can't remember seeing a positive review. Don't the research and you decide. Sitting around waiting isn't a good option.

Dear Lee, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We take all reviews seriously and use them to improve our processes. The unprecedented demand for assessments nationwide has created significant challenges, and we are working closely with the NHS to address the high demand. We understand how frustrating this situation must be, and we are doing everything we can to reduce wait times while maintaining the quality of care for all our patients. This is an exceptionally difficult period for both us and the NHS, but please know that we are actively making necessary changes to keep wait times down. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through these challenges. Kind regards, Psychiatry UK

Review titled My health conditioned if I don't provide my Passport.
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Patient from Essex - Posted on 18 September 2023
My assessment is delay because Psychiatric Uk is more interested in gathering personal IDs and recording my phone calls than generate my autistic spectrum assessment. I was referred to Psychiatric Uk by my Gp. They are asking for my passport to be uploaded otherwise I cannot be assessed. I have my nhs number and a gp referral. Why does Psychiatric Uk need my personal document? I had a phone call from them. Without any explanation about what is the phone call for, they asked if I want to record the phone call. I answered "No, I prefer not to be recorded". The person at the phone told me "If you don't allow to me to record the phone call I have to hang up the phone. That's it. Very poor communication skills and my health conditioned if I don't allow them to go ahead with their poor practices.

Dear Patient Thank you for writing a review to let us know that you have not been happy with our service. I am sorry to hear that your assessment has been delayed, and I can understand how frustrated you must feel. We are required to obtain photo ID and proof of address documentation to validate the identity of all our patients. This is an integral part of our process as an online provider, particularly as we prescribe medication. You can read more about this on our website: Acceptable forms of ID – Psychiatry-UK. We record all phone calls for both training and monitoring purposes. This is an internal policy that is part of our quality assurance framework. If you do not wish to be recorded, we would be happy for you to communicate with us via the portal instead, or via email. Our Patient Experience Team would be happy to talk these issues through with you and see if we can find some solutions to be able to move forward with your assessment. Please do get in touch with the team at: experience@psychiatry-uk.com.
