Review titled Mixed care from staff are bad.
by dancedc83 - Posted on 06 October 2023
I attended all of the wards, Abbey, Charlemont and Friar in the space of 2 weeks. The doctors allocated on Abbey and Charlemont kept discharging me, and I felt suicidal. Friar ward is okay, however there was a fire on the male side and some of the staff were very unprofessional, not staying calm and shouting and screaming at the patients. Additionally I am in the hospital for my mental health and one of my triggers is showering and it’s not being facilitated for me to be supervised, even though I have sexual trauma from showering. Not all the staff are bad but some of them can be rude and hostile.

Hi dancedc83, Thank you for leaving your experience of your time with us. Can I first apologise for any care or treatment you felt was not meeting our high professional standards. As a Trust we value high standards of professional care and treatment, and anything that falls short will always be investigated. With regards to the fire on the male side we have since undertaken an investigation with all the staff involved as we do for anything that falls short of our expectations. We have therefore put further measures in place to ensure any similar situation in future is handled in the best possible way. We will continue to work with our staff to ensure continued training is provided regarding our values.

Review titled Desperate need for enhanced community support
by Fiona79 - Posted on 18 August 2023
In May I became very depressed, after being well for so long, to the point of not wanting to carry on. My GP signed me off work and I’d been referred to occupational health. I self-referred to Healthy Minds in April 2021 who arranged for a telephone assessment in May 2021. I was told that given my past psychiatric history as an inpatient and history of self-harm, I would need to be referred to secondary care services. I was assessed by the SPOR Team in June, who were great – I felt that they really listened to me and gave me lots of advice and support and was extremely empathetic. They referred me to the Wellbeing Service. I was told by the Wellbeing Service that there was a 12-month waiting list to receive one-to-one support but that there was an option for group therapy and the waiting list was shorter. I had a letter from the Wellbeing Service in July 2021 saying that I was on a waiting list – there was no information about how long this could potentially be (could this not be put on the letter to give an expected timeframe?) so called the service and was told it was 12 months. I became very unwell in July 2022 and was admitted by the Crisis Team to Bushey Fields Hospital where I stayed for 3 weeks. I have to say the ward staff were lovely and it was great to see how much time they all had for their patients. I was discharged at the end of July with some Home Treatment Team support for 2 weeks (the HTT were great too!) However, I've now been waiting for 2 years and 2 months for community mental health services. I have no idea whether I've been forgotten, whether I should be having some support in the meantime (other than being able to call the duty workers). I acknowledge that there are significant waiting times in mental health services and really don’t expect to jump any queues – I’m sure I’m less risky than many and of course the pandemic has had an impact – but I have no idea what has been going on since my assessment in June 2021. I have no idea that what I have been waiting such a long time for is even the right thing for me now. I know that I could ring to check but again I’m not asking to be brought forward or want to put pressure on telephone lines. Could there not be a system in place for people to be checked on when they’re on a waiting list for such an extensive period of time, or even just some advice about what to do if circumstances change, particularly if they get worse? Or a reminder of where support could be sought in the meantime? I acknowledge the pressures clinicians are under but I’m sure just a letter every couple of months to update on waiting times and to check whether there have been any changes would mean that people don’t feel forgotten – this could be an automated letter from the system to relieve pressure on clinicians. So all in all, the last time I had any contact with the service was SPOR in June and then by the wellbeing service in September. Having been told that because of my past trauma and in-patient history and history of self-harm I was too risky to be managed in Healthy Minds, if I hadn’t been able to access psychological support at work, I can’t confidently say that I’d be here sharing my story. I have to say that everyone who I have spoken to has been extremely caring and compassionate but I fear for people in the same situation as me who might not be fortunate enough to have the resources to seek help for themselves via self-referral or workplace support and it seems that some simple measures could be put into place to make sure that people, who may already feel that they are not important enough, don’t feel abandoned.

Hi Fiona79, thank you for your comments and ideas about the Wellbeing service in Sandwell. We are currently completing 3-4 monthly wellbeing check in calls for service users currently on our waiting list but by the sounds of it you didn’t receive this contact? The purpose of these are to check on peoples wellbeing, and to discuss whether their needs have changed. As you describe we advise people they can access the team duty worker & provide details of who they can contact out of hours. Can I ask if you received any information on other services that you can access whilst you were waiting for talking therapy? This is something we offer to everyone so I would be interested to know if you didn’t receive this so it can be looked into

The staff in Dudley in the last few months have been exceptional and have helped me through some of my darkest hours. Ill never be able to thank them enoigh for their kindness and support especially the night staff. Sometimes I just need someone to be straight with me to clear the fog i have and it helps. Im really appreciative of their kindness and compassion even when ive been unable to help myself.

Review titled My ADHD diagnosis
by skygm99 - Posted on 21 June 2023
When I was referred for ADHD, my appointments were frequently cancelled at short notice or rescheduled at short notice, which for a working student meant I was taking off time that I could’ve worked and missed learning. Once I was diagnosed with ADHD I felt abandoned. I was never contacted about treatments, or how to support myself despite being told I was going to. And almost a year later. having been told they didn’t know when I was going to get support, I was transferred to the care of a different treatment provider, that would do the exact same. Because of this, over a year later, I am struggling massively with coping and living with my ADHD just as I had been doing prior to my diagnosis, but now with the knowledge that I should’ve been helped and that I probably won’t get that help I require to try and live normally.
