  1. Review titled Incorrect Prescription Charge

Rated 1 star out of 5

Was prescribed Canesten gel pessary combi pack by the GP and the script was sent over to Cohen’s as my nominated pharmacy by the doctor. I wasn’t sure if the medication would count as 1 or 2 prescription charges, so enquired with the chemist staff before paying (I know I can purchase the same product from another chemists for £10.95 including home delivery - whereas paying 2 prescription charges would cost £19.80 and require an in person visit). The person who served me assured me the prescription counts as one charge as it’s one box of product to treat the condition, so I payed and went home. In the afternoon I received a phone call from the chemist explaining there had been a mistake and I should have paid 2 charges - they asked me to return to the pharmacy to cover the remaining £9.90 or face a fine for not covering the cost of the medication. I explained how I’d sought confirmation regarding the prescription charge from chemist staff during my visit earlier in the day, due to the high cost of being charged for 2 items under NHS fees compared to purchasing the product elsewhere. I asked if I could return the unused and unopened box of medication and receive a refund, so I could purchase the project elsewhere for cheaper. It was explained that this wasn’t an option. Frustrating that this wouldn’t have happened if the staff member I’d spoken to hadn’t mistakenly confirmed the box of medication counts as 1 charge. I’m now faced with the option of retuning to the shop and paying significantly more for an item I could’ve bought over the counter for half the price or potentially facing a fine. The staff member who called me was very vague about the potential of being fined providing no more information than ‘they [the NHS] might get in touch with you’. I’ve now switched my nominated pharmacy to an alternative in Farnworth to avoid future mix ups - which happens to be open on Saturdays. I wouldn’t recommend using Cohen’s prescription services.
