  1. Review titled Not a good experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

Medication was not in stock. Told to return on Wednesday. Returned and shop was closed. Turned up again the next day, medication not in stock. Tried another Jhoots, medication not in stock. Unhappy and in pain. Won’t be using Jhoots again.

  2. Review titled Shambles.....

Had an appointment booked for a Covid Spring booster this morning at Jhoots Tiverton branch. Duly received a reminder email from the NHS booking system at 8.09. I’m 75; drove 6 miles through torrential rain to Tiverton, paid for parking and turned up 4 minutes early only to be told that the pharmacist could not do injections today and to re-book for next week! No explanation offered as to why, or why I hadn’t been sent notice of cancellation – probably because they hadn’t told the NHS booking system. No use the NHS pushing us oldies to take up the vaccination offer if this is the kind of service we can expect from their contracted pharmacies.

  3. Review titled Slowest pharmacy around

Rated 1 star out of 5

Waited 55 minutes just to get some over the counter pain relief. I understand there are staff shortages but maybe ask people if they’re waiting for prescription or not. Maybe this will shorten the queue times! A lot of very unhappy customers with poor communication and attitudes from staff. I feel sorry for anyone that needs a prescription as I would rather drive into the city centre to get it as it would probably be quicker.

  4. Review titled JHoots at Waitrose, Portishead

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 April 2024

On 5/4/24 I waited 1 hour for my prescription - luckily, it was almost ready. On another occasion, I was queuing for my meds. I was feeling particularly unwell. I had to sit on the only chair provided (When it was Lloyds, there were 2 chairs). After a long wait, my meds weren’t ready. Could I come back in 20 minutes - I could not. So my husband had to go back down at 4.30 - he still had to wait 30 minutes. Boots in our town closed last week. So, as Hoots couldn’t provide, my son took me to Clevedon Boots (5 miles away). No queue. All meds supplied. Guess where I feel like going!

  5. Review titled Staff don't know what they are doing.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Lucy - Posted on 13 April 2024

I got charged for a free prescription today, the staff didn't put in a paper repeat request. I saw a member of staff on the phone clearly asking what they need to do, it's worrying. I've changed my pharmacy someone needs to look into this, and also J Hoots train your staff properly.

  6. Review titled Potentially dangerous missing urgent medication

Rated 1 star out of 5

Over 60 minutes wait for a pre ordered prescription, and once returned home found it wasn't the correct modification as per the prescription. My wife now has to go through the weekend without her severe pain relief medication due to the incompetence and unprofessional attitude of this pharmacy. The "staff" could be heard constantly saying, "I don't know how to do this", absolutely ridiculous and downright dangerous when they are supposed to be professional health care. If this review, and many others like it, actually get read by senior NHS, this place needs to be investigated and audited as soon as possible, before someone has a medical issue due to wrong / missing medication. Avoid at all costs, and use somewhere else. It'll be quicker to drive to Bristol and back than wait here and get the wrong medication.

  7. Review titled Rubbish & dangerous

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Kathleen Saunders - Posted on 11 May 2024

No. 1 issue: Came in for my prescription, waited 1 hour in the cue, only about 6 people in it. When they found my prescription I waited another 15 mins while the pharmacist was on the phone, apparently they need to approve the prescription. I could not wait any longer as they had no idea when he would finish on the phone, so the girl said come back the next morning at 9am. I came back and they were closed with no note or explanation. I had a coffee in Waitrose & they did not open until 10.30am No 2 issue: Came in for prescription after about 9 days, was told the items were not in stock. The girl asked me if I would like them to order it for me!? Yes I said thinking why did they not order it without my approval! No 3 issue: They rarely acknowledge you are waiting at the counter to speak to someone, you can wait sometimes 10 minutes at the front of the cue (after waiting ages in the cue) not knowing if they know you are waiting! I spoke up with another lady to get their attention and the girl who was just chatting to someone said ‘oh I didn’t know you were waiting! No 4 issue: When they look for your prescription they often seem confused, looking through lots of boxes & looking on the computer, moving very slowly, it can take 10 to 15 mins & then they find they don’t have it! So you have to come back days later to go through the same scenario. No 5 issue: They don’t give repeat prescriptions or take prescriptions as the other chemist did. The result is going to the doctors surgery, wait in a cue to be given repeat prescription, fill it in & post it there. I have diabetes & get nervous that if I don’t check up that they have my prescription & are processing it I will find myself without insulin & needles, which almost happened because of their lack of followthough. The previous pharmacy in Waitrose used to send a text when your prescription was ready, these people make no contact. They are often closed so unsure of opening hours. I was going to transfer to Boots in Portishead because of the bad service but find Boots have now closed. I think Waitrose should shut them down & get an efficient pharmacy in that space, they should not be allowed to practice. Thank you for listening Kathleen

  8. Review titled Poor service

Rated 1 star out of 5

Extremely poor service at J Hoots Portishead. Big queue, had to wait again after seeing assistant. 45 mins again. How do they get away with it? Others also frustrated. Felt sorry for what appears untrained staff.

  9. Review titled No pharmasist

Rated 1 star out of 5

Came here to get some pain relief due to a sciatica flare up to be told they can’t sell me anything over the counter because the pharmacist has left the building. He had left the building for over 30 minutes. If that’s the case surely they can’t dispense any form of medication not just some paracetamol? Nothing but issues from this pharmacy. Long queues, incredibly slow, half the medication missing. Thankfully I don’t have any prescriptions sent here, feel sorry for anyone that does. Absolutely shocking.

  10. Review titled Chaotic and disorganised

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 May 2024

Ten days after the GP surgery sent the script over, it had not been made up, and although it was in stock, the pharmacist had not turned up that day, so no prescriptions could be given out. Tried again the next day, queued for over 45 mins then had to leave for another appointment. Five people in the dispensary were coping with one prescription every 15 mins. The queue was out the door. One lady said she had been waiting for a prescription to be filled since December! J Hoots own two of the three pharmacies in Portishead. The third, the small and excellent pharmacy in West Hill cannot cope with the whole of Portishead. This is a serious problem. We are talking about possible life saving medication. Cannot the two health centres in Portishead not put pressure on this company to get its act together?
