I had been suffering with an ear infection all week and was taking antibiotics issued by my NHS GP earlier in the week. I visited the pharmacy on the weekend as I was due to travel on a long haul flight the following evening and wanted some decongestants to use to help with the pressure in my ears on the flight as I felt my ears were not still not right. The pharmacist on duty asked some questions and said he was not happy to sell me decongestants as he felt I needed the advice of a doctor. He insisted I visit an urgent care centre where a doctor would examine my ears. We followed the pharmacist’s advice and went off to Urgent care where the doctor on duty examined my ears and explained the dangerous risks associated with flying with an ear infection which included permanent damage to hearing and the ears. The doctor then proceeded to declare me unfit to travel. If it had not been for the pharmacist’s questions and subsequent advice I would have flown and had possible ear damage. I can’t thank the pharmacist enough for his concern and advice. We are very lucky to have such a lovely pharmacy in our community with a pharmacist who cares about his customers.
