Review titled Embarrassed and stressful
by JoG - Posted on 23 June 2024
I have recently been diagnosed with a life changing genetic disease. The first time I went to collect my prescription - they couldn’t find my name. Then gave me my adult son’s medication. Then only had some of the items. So I left it. Until today. My son’s medication is for a heart condition. I told the very helpful young man that I would be sorting out my prepayment when I got home. I then asked him about student exemption and then realised it would be better to get him a prepayment certificate as well. He gave me the prescription to complete the back which I did. He then asked for advice from another lady. At this point it becomes an issue. The lady told me I had to pay for my sons as I was asking to take it for free. I said no I am going to buy the prepayment when I get home. She said this is not ok. I said it is you are able to back date it. She said this is not ok. A member of the public joined in and said to me - everyone would do that if it was ok. I said why would I risk being fined for lying on an NHS prescription. Again this stranger commented. I said people would only do that if they wanted to risk £1000 fine. The lady behind the counter then said you can stand and do it now. I said no I have 2% and other pharmacy and GP’s tell me it is fine. She then said come back k later when you have done it. I asked her if she had looked online as you can backdate it by sometime - so why would that be an option. She was adamant and said you are asking me to give it to you for free - I have never done this. I said I am not asking for it for free. can you please just take the money . I am finding this increasingly anxious. She commented again. And corrected me saying you said you will do it when you get home so you want it free. I said shall we not get pedantic when you realise what the medication is for. Then I said I need to change the back as now it is false information. Interestingly no evidence was asked for my pre payment which I had not purchased at the time either!!!! I now have a voicemail message offering a form to complete to apply for a refund as I presume she now realised she was incorrect. Either way not all illness’ are obvious. It was humiliating. Other members of the public joined in - if you are going to challenge fo so in your chaperone area. Staff should be fully aware of the procedures or at least look them up. They should listen to patients as usually they know their illness and the system If you are going to make a point then at least check for a pre payment certificate!!!! An awful, embarrassing experience. If my son was not desperate for his heart medication I would have left.

I went to collect my prescription and was forced to pay 2 charges for 1 HRT item. When I informed the pharmacist that I had never paid 2 charges before, he loudly proclaimed that I owed the company lots of money. In front of other customers, I was made to feel embarrassed and humiliated. I checked with my surgery and another chemist and my original view was correct. I then received a voicemail from the pharmacist asking for a call back. I returned to the chemist to be told that there was a glitch in the system, that they were understaffed, staff were not trained and that he had too many prescriptions to deal with. My money was returned. No apology was given for being publicly humiliated, only for the mistake made by the pharmacist. No apology has been received by the cashier who was rude and abrupt throughout the entire episode. Do not use this chemist!
