I had an appointment at E12 medical center, which is cross the road from Prime Pharmacy, my doctor send prescription to Prime pharmacy, for me to go and get me medication from there, I went to them and got my medication, at least this was my understanding, when I got home I realized that medication they have gave me was my previous prescription and not the one I needed, I was very disappointed that I needed to go back and waste my time for there mistake and went in hope to get medication I needed and refund for their mistake. When I got there I explain the situation and they gave me prescription which they meant to give in first place, but they have refused to do refund for the item I didn’t needed and explanation they had was – this is what was in the system on that time and it is not our fault that it was previous prescription, sorely giving medication twice with same prescription is against the low and plus using this as an excuse for not refunding the money very unprofessional, I will never go to them again and not advising to anyone to get any medication from them.

Dear patient, I am sorry to hear about your experience and thank you for raising these issues. In the first instance, the medication that was supposed to be prescribed by your doctor on the day was not sent to us until later on in the day, which is why when you came back later in the afternoon it had arrived electronically to our system. However when we initially supplied you with the medication for which we did have a prescription (as you stated afterwards it was a previously prescribed uncollected medication), the pharmacist and staff member had clearly shown you the item and explained to you what the medication was before you chose to pay the NHS charge and take it out of the pharmacy. In the second event you state you had left the pharmacy and returned back wanting to return the item and were requesting a refund on the NHS prescription charge. Unfortunately pharmacies can only take back dispensed items for safe disposal/destruction, however it cannot be taken back to be re-used/re-dispensed to someone else. It cannot be taken back for a refund like normal shop/pharmacy goods. Pharmacies follow strict standards of practice as set out by the GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council), one of which is that all medicine and medicinal devices must be obtained from reputable sources (GPhC standards for registered pharmacies principle 4.3) such as wholesalers registered with the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency). Unfortunately if the item had been returned to us before leaving the premises, we may have been able to accommodate your request. Since this wasn't done before paying the total charges, whilst taking the bagged items or before leaving the premises we are unable to treat it as a re-usable product and therefore were unable to issue a refund on a NHS prescription charge. We are aware that this may not seem reasonable to you. I know it may seem like a waste if it goes unused by yourself. We can fully understand the feeling in that regard but unfortunately it is made clear to us that it cannot be taken back from a patient for re-use once it has left the pharmacy. I hope this clarifies the reasons as to why the events played out as they have, and also gives an explanation as to why the refund was rejected. If you would like to further discuss the issues raised please feel free to contact us and we will try our best to explain further. Kind regards Prime Pharmacy Team
