   I contacted the pharmacy to check they offered the “Pharmacy First” service and was told yes they did. So I went along with my daughter (the patient) as advised by our GP surgery as the surgery had no appointments left. My daughter had a high temperature and a painful ear. The person behind the counter gave her some “Ear Calm” and charged me £8.99. They didn’t examine my daughter, or ask any questions, there was no safety netting, no ruling out of a perforation prior to selling the ear spray. My understanding of the Pharmacy First scheme is that an examination and questioning will be done and then if you are eligible for free prescriptions you will receive the treatment free of charge. Therefore this encounter was a fail on both counts. Disappointing and potentially unsafe experience.
