About

Family Breaks Devon is part of Action for Children. We're a not-for-profit charity which places children at the centre of everything we do.

Our short breaks carers provide a home away from home experience for children and young people with Disabilities. They focus on what a child can do, and not what they can't.

Children build positive relationships with their carers, staying overnight at their carers home. They'll be immersed in positive activities and given opportunities to develop new skills. Our short breaks are fun, enjoyable and educational.

Family Breaks Devon are there to put parents minds at ease. Our short break carers are assessed, supervised, trained and offered regular ongoing support.

Our professional team include:

- A specialist paediatric nurse

- Senior social workers

- Psychologist

- Team manager.

We can offer care to children with any forms of disability and additional needs including those with complex and life limiting medical conditions.

Children and families can access this service subject to a referral from Devon County Council.

We work very closely with parents and families to ensure that all our children are placed with the right families are introduced carefully so that their new experiences are really positive. Children are given a diary and photographs of their time away to share with parents.
