About

ACMHS was established as a result of concerns expressed by the community about the frequency with which second generation African and African Caribbean youths were admitted to psychiatric hospitals and the regional forensic unit. Concerns focused on the way such admissions took place, what happened when people were admitted (in terms of diagnosis and treatment) and after they left ie: aftercare and housing.

The objective of the organisation is to:

• Promote mental health issues

• Support individuals experiencing mental illness to reintegrate back into the community with a view to leading an independent life.
