About

CancerCare is a local charity dedicated to the support of cancer patients, their families and carers, and for those bereaved by cancer throughout North Lancashire and South Lakeland. It has accumulated experience of this work over 25 years. CancerCare offers a range of therapies, provided by highly trained practitioners, which encourage and support each person to adapt to their new situation. It has grown to be the largest charitable organisation of its kind in the UK, providing local support free of charge to people facing cancer at all stages of the cancer journey.

Opening times

9am - 5pm Monday - Friday. Late appointments available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

TherapiesCancerCare offers a range of therapies which are used to encourage and support each person to adjust to their own new situation. All the therapies we offer are designed to meet the particular needs of the people who come to CancerCare. They complement treatment and advice from other healthcare professionals, often help to control symptoms and help people feel better, although they cannot cure cancer. Groups meet once a week at each centre and engage in a range of creative and leisure activities with lunch provided. Small contribution to cost of lunch requested.Literature and informationWe aim to offer information in a variety of formats on all aspects of cancer and its treatment, as well as books and journals in which people have shared their own experiences of cancer. Each centre has an information resource area and it is possible to talk to a therapist about any issues or concerns on the phone, or by making an appointment for an informal meetingEmail: therapyadmin@cancercare.org.ukTel: 7512368257Cost: Free of chargeSelf support groupsCancerCare facilitates a number of groups that enable people to support themselves and to help each other: Art Friendship provides an opportunity to maintain friendships and practise the skills acquired by previously attending the facilitated Art group. An informal Breast Care group is held every month at Slynedales. The Bay Prostate Cancer Support Group meets each month at Slynedales. There is always a warm welcome for new patients, and partners or carers. Weekly Swimming sessions for CancerCare clients are offered at Sandgate Hydrotherapy and Capernwray Pools.
