About

Portage is a home visiting early educational service for families who have a baby or young child (0-5 years) with additional needs. Portage workers work in partnership with parents to help them to teach their child new skills using a range of techniques that are known to work well for children with additional needs.

Portage helps children who have significant delays in their development. Children do not need a diagnosis to access Portage.

Portage groups bring together a small number of children with a parent/carer to develop their social skills and provide an opportunity for the adults to meet with other parents/carers to share experiences and provide mutual support. Groups are by invitation only and take place at Children’s Centres where there will be a small number of parking places reserved for people with disabilities. Other parking spaces may be limited (please note these groups are dependent on there being a sufficient number of families living close to or able to travel to a Children’s Centre).
