About
GIST Cancer UK is the only UK based charity solely devoted to GIST cancer. Our team consists of motivated GIST (gastro-intestinal stromal tumour) patients and their carers who offer information and support by phone, online and face to face, gained from first-hand experience.
We work with top GIST specialists & National/International groups, to promote best practice and help GIST patients and their families come to terms with living with GIST cancer.
We provide information about GIST cancer treatment options, and clinical trials and operate a helpline manned by GIST cancer patients. We offer the opportunity for patients to share experience with other patients via a private online email group in addition to hosting three regional patient meetings a year and three PAWS-GIST clinics for those GIST patients with Paediatric, Adolescent or Wild-type GIST.
We have been working hard to establish an infrastructure here in the UK that will help to stimulate research into GIST. In recent years we have helped to re-write and update the National GIST Guidelines, establish the National GIST Tissue Bank and the PAWS-GIST clinic at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge. All of these things help to stimulate research to Improve the future for GIST cancer patients. Our work continues...
