About

Hastings & Rother Voluntary Association for the Blind is a local registered charity for local sight impaired.We are an independent charity, committed to providing access to services, support and encouragement and information to those with visual difficulties. We also seek to serve the needs of their carers and families.

Our Society is run by a dedicated and hard working committee, team of staff and volunteers. There are a wide range of clubs in operation during the week, covering everything from arts and crafts, to keep fit, social activities and sports clubs.

The John Taplin Centre, named after one of our most devoted blind members, is a purpose-built day centre on our grounds, designed for those who are blind or partially sighted. The Association also has a rest home, Healey House.

The John Taplin Centre operates Monday to Friday 9.30am to 3.30pm,

Visually impaired people living in the Borough of Hastings and Rother district.

Target group

For anyone who is blind or partially sighted, do not have to be registered.

Also welcomes visually impaired people with a variety of other disabilities.

Further information

The organisation has a Resource Centre, where members can see and try the many aids and equipment available to help visually impaired people. Also available is a 20/20 Low Vision Reading System (CCTV) which enlarges the written word making any document easier to read. There is a wide range of information in large print and tape form and a selection of story tapes and large print books, which can be lent out.
