About

Konnections provides support for disabled children, young people and their families, regardless of race, religion, ethnic origin, marital status, physical or mental disability. We also support the parents and raise awareness within the wider community of the needs of families with children who have disability and it provides a variety of services to those families. Konnections runs a variety of short break projects for disabled children and young people. Our projects are divided by age (under elevens and over elevens) and by the school term/holiday calendar. During term time we run an under elevens Saturday club, thirty eight Saturdays a year, from 10am til 3pm. Families access this project from a waiting list. Once a space becomes available we guarantee each family one respite Saturday each month. We also run holiday projects for this age group offering thirty short break days, distributed across the school holiday calendar.

Further information

Mums Support GroupThe Mums support group provides support, friendship and information to local families. The group offers a blend of informal coffee mornings, guest speakers and social activities, and offers this support to all mums regardless of the nature of their child's disability. Over the years the group has been a vital support for those who are struggling without a diagnosis or going through the process of having their children assessed. The group meets every Friday morning during term time, and welcomes all Mums or carers with disabled children or young people.Email: sandy.carterTel: 01344 828809Cost: FreeYouth ClubKonnections Youth Club is a club for young people with disability and their friends. It runs every Monday evening 6:30- 8:30 pm during term time. We publish a termly programme of activities for the young people, whilst offering a comfortable environment for the parents to meet in the K2 lounge for coffee and chat. During the summer we often go out and about to local attractions and make the most of the long summer evenings using the new bus. There is an informal parents group that meets in the K2 lounge at the same time.Email: sandy.carter@kerith.co.ukTel: 01344 828809Cost: £1 per sessionSiblings Support GroupBands is a sibling support group for children aged 7-14 years old who have a sibling with a disability. The purpose of Bands is to provide a safe environment where the siblings can explore their emotions, develop coping strategies and meet with other children in similar circumstances so they realise they are not alone. We follow a 9 week programme devised and run by a qualified play therapist and cover topics such as identity, communication, understanding different disabilities, exploring emotions, coping strategies and next steps. At the end of the programme we organise an outing for the children as a celebration. On completing the course, the children are offered the opportunity to meet together termly and if we feel there are children that would benefit with additional help at the end of the course we will provide one on one support.Email: catherine.felgate@kerith.co.ukTel: 01344 828809Cost: £16 for 9 week courseE-Learning CourseTraining for parent/carers of disabled children to learn useful disability specific information to support your child.
