About

The Bruce Trust is a registered charity which provides specially-designed, purpose-built, wide-beam canal boats on the Kennet and Avon Canal, from two bases, for hire for self-catering, self-steer holidays by disabled, disadvantaged or elderly people and their carers.

The Kennet and Avon canal runs through Berkshire and Wiltshire, from the River Thames at Reading to the River Avon at Bath.

Opening times

9am - 5pm Monday - Friday

Access

The boats have wide-access ramps, hydraulic lifts, low-level bunks, specially-fitted showers and toilets and grab rails in all bathrooms. Additional equipment can be provided including transfer hoist, shower chair, commode, cot sides and perching stools.

The boats have been designed to allow wheelchair users the opportunity of steering the boats using the tiller. Both Hannah and Rachel have been fitted with a remote steering device that enables someone with less upper body mobility to steer from their wheelchair, using a joystick.

Target group

Disabled, disadvantaged or elderly people

Referral method

Anyone can contact us if someone in the intended group boarding the boat is disabled, disadvantaged or elderly
