About
By setting up a programme in football stadiums - a place where men are often thrilled to go to - and focusing on 'being the best you can be', It's a Goal! have been successful in engaging with depressed young men.
The project helps young men, preferably between the ages of 16 - 35, although referrals have been accepted for men outside this age limit, who may suffer, or have suffered, with depression, but also includes those who have little confidence, a low opinion of themselves and who have poor communication and social skills. All referrals are interviewed by the coach to assess suitability prior to joining the team. Interviews take place anywhere the potential player feels comfortable, and if a pre-interview chat is desired this never presents a problem.
The project aims to be inclusive, specifically with regards to diversity issues such as race, culture and gender inequalities. With this in mind, there are also places available on the course for women with these issues.
