Review titled Out patients appointment line
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 24 July 2024
I tried to let the hospital know that they have sent me two letters for the same appointment on the same day but at two different times. After holding on for just over eleven minutes on the last attempt I gave up. I thought i might be able to cancel on appointment on-line and keep the other appointment but it said i would be discharged. I have complained about the appointments line before and nothing has changed. It is an impossible task trying to speak to a human being.

Review titled Very efficient and friendly
by Daisy - Posted on 24 July 2024
The service and care provided deserves 10 stars. From the receptionist and security team right through to the phlebotomy team, triage and then the doctor, we could not have asked for more. An outstanding team in the NHS. Thank you so much.

Review titled Exceptional Breast Cancer Care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Mrs Melinda Lee Wallis - Posted on 08 June 2024
A diagnosis of breast cancer is overwhelming! So when you meet the team and your surgeon they immediately put you first and make sure professional, kind and expert treatment will be given at every step of your journey! I am in total awe of this team from Mammography to radiography, to my exceptional surgeon and operating room team and breast nurses I am forever grateful as I journey through the unknown that they can be trusted and care deeply for each patient’s best interest and healthiest outcome! With a heart full of gratitude. Knowing I am in the best of hands whatever I have to face! So if you find yourself with a breast cancer diagnosis you can trust the team here in East Kent and in my case at both Kent & Canterbury and William Harvey Hospital locations. With sincere thanks Melinda

Review titled Maternity needs to put patients first
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 24 June 2024
Saddened to see the seats removed from the maternity lobby, these were crucial when our last baby was in special care as they don't let you stay for baby's procedures etc so we would sit there and wait. Also essential when needing to tske a moment out of the postnatal or labour wards. The amazon lockers that have replaced the chairs just encourage more people into the lobby increasing chaos and reducing privacy and security. A woman was wheeled from maternity to SCBU in a bed while I was checking in. She had a sheet only just covering her, looked very unwell & vulnerable and staff were pushing her baby in a cot behind her. There were several staff with her but none were talking to her or offering reassurance or protecting her from all of the strangers in the lobby, they just looked miserable and fed up. Also wondered why baby wasn't pushed infront rather than behind so mum didn't have to loose sight of baby (makes such a difference). For my appointment the midwife I saw was kind but the others I encountered were intimidating and authoritarian. Staff need to smile and say hello etc.

Review titled Unwilling to make reasonable adjustments
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 11 April 2024
I had to schedule an fsg scan and was informed that the appointment would be at Queen Elizabeth hospital Margate at either 9 am or 9:15 am. Living in Folkestone, I explained to the appointment team that I needed to drop off my 3-year-old child at nursery by 8:55 am and that it would take me 52 minutes to travel from Folkestone to Margate. I requested a 10 am appointment to allow me enough time, but initially encountered resistance from the team. After advocating for a more suitable appointment time, the manager provisionally booked me for 10 am, pending approval from the consultant I would be seeing. However, after a wait of over two hours, I was informed that the consultant was not willing to accommodate the 10 am slot. Now, I am left waiting an additional month before I can attempt to reschedule for a later appointment time. This experience is disappointing as it highlights the challenges patients face in accessing and attending appointments. Providing greater flexibility and understanding towards patients' individual circumstances is essential to ensure that appointments are both scheduled and attended effectively, without unnecessary delays or barriers.

Review titled Caring and professional
by Mrs griggs - Posted on 13 March 2024
I had my Glucose tolerance test which I was quite nervous about, but the staff taking my bloods were both very accommodating of my nerves. All of the staff in the blood test area made me feel relaxed and supported and despite my thin veins the process ended up being very quick and professional. They checked up on how myself and another mum to be were doing in the waiting area and supported me when i felt faint after the second test. They turned an anxious event into something positive which i was very grateful for :)

Review titled Lovely Friendly Caring Unit
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Stephen Lynn - Posted on 24 August 2023
First time as a patient at this hospital, endoscopy unit, staff are so pleasant and caring, professional and polite I have no issues would not hesitate to recommend this hospital. My mother was also treated here for a terrible broken arm at the age of 90. There were doubts whether it could be reset for the fracture unit and all the staff were simply amazing. Put my dear old Mum back together and now she’s leaving I have a normal life once again All in one piece Special. Thanks to everybody has a game at this hospital.

Review titled Excellent care from KCH
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lai - Posted on 27 June 2023
I was admitted to KCH for a procedure under local anaesthetic. On admission to Surgical Admission Unit, I was seen promptly by a Staff Nurse, then, waited in the waiting area. Then, I was shown to sit in a cubicle with curtain closed by a Nursing Sister, with no explanation. I was left waiting there for a while before the same Staff Nurse checked in on me behind the curtain. It was some time before the Surgeon was able to see me - which I did expect. I expect that waiting is necessary but communication and explanation are very important at every step. Also, I was waiting for four and a half hours before being taken to Operating Theatre. May I suggest that Surgical Admission could have more comfortable chairs available please. I should like to commend the Vascular Operating Team for their excellent care which were both professional and relaxed. The Surgeon and the Scrub Nurse are both absolute delight and the whole team worked very well together. Thank you also to the Day Surgery Nursling Team who are very lovely. I am most grateful for all the excellent care that I received on this particular day!

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. I am sorry to read that the communication was lacking in the lead up to the procedure and I'll be sure to pass on your comments regarding both communication and seating. However I am very pleased to read that you had such excellent care from the Vascular Operating Team which I shall also pass on.

Review titled Appalling treatment
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 14 April 2023
Had Mri and Ct scans with and without extract. Taken to Resus, sat on a bed next to a patient having some kind of "episode" and told looking at the scans, you have a brain tumour. The results will be sent to Kings College and someone will contact you in a few days. Given 3 boxes of pills, told that I would be on this medication for life and sent home!!!!!!! At no point did anyone take me somewhere a little private or otherwise and attempt to explain the situation or it's implications to me. The medication I was given had an adverse effect on me to the point of me phoning 111 at 01.30 one morning because I felt I was questioning suicide. I received a phone call 3 weeks+ later and asked why I was on this medication and that I shouldn't be on it.!!!!!!!! I received an email to say that I needed to remain on this medication!!!!!!!!!!!! To date I have received no offers of counselling, no offers of help or advice as to what to expect going forward, nothing. I was just told you have cancer in the form of a brain tumour and then left hung out to dry. Any knowledge that I have gained has come from Google!!!! At 73 to try and take all this in without some kind of support is asking too much.

I am extremely sorry that you received a diagnosis of a brain tumour and were told this without being provided with any privacy, support or a timescale for follow up. Can I please ask you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on tel: 01227 783145 or email: ekh-tr.pals@nhs.net so that they can ask the service involved to investigate what has happened and get you some quick answers. I will alert the PALS team to this post. I apologise sincerely that this has happened. It is not acceptable. Best wishes.
