  1. Review titled Slow and Inefficient

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 July 2024

Arrive at just gone 11am, first process of arrival to A&E being triaged by nurse and receiving ECG was quick. However once we were moved onto the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) department there was zero process. Waited over 2 hours for bloods to be taken. Over an hour then to be seen by a doctor to then be sent for an XRay which we knew we needed as we had been referred by the GP to A&E for Xray and Blood Tests. Xray process was pretty quick but once returned we waited ages to be seen by the doctor again and when we were seen we had the consultation in a store cupboard. We are now over 6 hours into our visit and are now waiting on the final test results to be sent home. The process needs streamlining and the staff could benefit from some lean training to improve the process and reduce waiting times considerably. Finally the food available in WHSmiths is poor and is mainly junk food. With the current obesity problem in the UK the NHS should really be promoting healthy eating within there facilities.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Veronika - Posted on 06 April 2024

We visited A&E on Saturday morning with my 2 year old daughter. The waiting time was about an hour. All staff was very nice and helpful. The doctor fixed my daughter's pulled elbow and explained everything clearly. Great service!

  5. Review titled Potentially dangerous experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 April 2024

I visited A&E after being sent there by my GP due to a mental health crisis. The triage team did an excellent job. However, the person I saw from the acute mental health team was not at all helpful. In fact, they were potentially dangerous in that the comments they made were inappropriate and upsetting. They didn’t listen to my story or history, they made a lot of assumptions without giving me space to clarify, and they shared far too much of their own story and issues. Had I been in an even more vulnerable mental state at the time, their actions could easily have pushed me into dangerous behaviour. In the end, they did agree to refer me to the home treatment service for mental health, but seemed to think this was unlikely to help. Having seen that team this morning - they were excellent, professional, compassionate, and provided the necessary support.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience. I'm so sorry to read that the acute mental health team did not help you and in fact, added to your distress. You should have been listened to carefully and treated with sensitivity and empathy and I'm very sorry this wasn't the case. It's reassuring to hear that the home treatment service was able to provide the support you needed and I hope you are recovering well. I will make sure that your experience is shared with the team and used to improve the service they provide. If you would like to talk to me about this please contact pals@geh.nhs.uk and ask for Becky. Best wishes, Becky Head of Patient Experience and Volunteering

  6. Review titled Great hospital, terrible parking

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Charlie - Posted on 24 April 2024

Visited here quite a few times and always had great interactions with staff, especially the physio department. The parking situation at the hospital is ridiculous though, if you've got an afternoon appointment you've no chance of getting parked. I've been late to appointments when I got to the car park half an hour prior to my appointment.

Dear Charlie, thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. I'm very sorry about the trouble you've had parking. We are doing a lot of work to improve the parking situation as we know it's a big issue for patients and also for staff. I will make sure your comments are fed back to the Estates team. Thank you for your patience. Best wishes, Becky, Head of Patient Experience

  7. Review titled Great kindness and a cheerful approach

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 February 2024

I'm a volunteer who takes patients to hospital and other medical appointments. I took a gentleman, 87 years of age, in for an MRI scan late on Saturday afternoon. Despite being disappointed that she and her colleague hadn't seen any patients that afternoon ( they had failed to turn up for appointments...how frustrating and costly is that?!!), the clinician was friendly, caring, funny, and very respectful of her patient, taking notice of his disabilities. Both he and I were very impressed by the two ladies care and attention, especially as he was a little worried about the procedure . I wanted to highlight this, in contrast to many uncomplimentary reviews that are written, usually based on the delays in A & E . The NHS is under huge pressure, as we all should acknowledge and it is no surprise that there will be waiting time involved, and occasional poor attention or approach by staff. It shouldn't be forgotten that we might all let standards slip if we were overworked, tired, on a treadmill of shifts..and then not paid at a level appropriate to our life saving skills.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post feedback about your experience. Thank you also for the time and energy you dedicate to volunteering and helping this gentleman attend his appointment. You are right, it is both frustrating and costly when people don't turn up for appointments and adds to the huge pressures the health service is under. But I am so glad to read that the patient was treated with care and that the staff were respectful of his disabilities. I will make sure your feedback is shared with the MRI team. As you rightly highlight, compliments are rare and will mean the world to this team. Best wishes, Becky Head of Patient Experience and Volunteering

  8. Review titled Feel like a nuisance

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 January 2024

When elderly patients are in a ward it would be helpful for relatives to know who they can ask for information and updates. At present, it seems to be a system of referring you to staff who view you as a nuisance for asking them. We are only asking out of concern for people we love. We understand that staff are busy and under pressure but some compassion and appreciation for how worried and concerned we are would go a long way.

Thank you for your comments and please accept my apologies for my very late reply. I'm very sorry that you were made to feel a nuisance when asking for updates about your loved one. Clear communication and compassionate support are crucial, especially in such stressful times. Please know that you can always ask to speak to the nurse in charge, ward manager or matron if you need to. I will make sure your comments are shared at the nursing huddle to remind staff about the importance of being available for families and carers. Best wishes, Becky, Head of Patient Experience

  9. Review titled ENT - Poor Communication and long wait times

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Faye - Posted on 08 July 2024

GP raised an urgent referral request in Sept 23. To date, no appointment date received. ENT Secrerary advised back in Dec after several calls that the Consultant has reviewed and has re-catergorised the referral as non-urgent. This decision has been taken without seeing my child, or discussing the symptoms. Whilst I absolutely understand that wait times are long at the moment. Re-grading a referral based on no discussion/triage is bad practise.

  10. Review titled Unacceptable waiting time

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 August 2023

Someone very close to me has been referred to see the neurologist at gewith what is expected to be a very serious diagnosis , this referral was done in May 2023 the appointment has arrived for 17th april 2024 yes 2024, you cannot begin to imagine the stress this has caused, I just find it unbelievable that something so potentially serious has an 11 month wait, I have alway though ge we’re one of the better hospitals but maybe the care has gone from there too.
