  1. Review titled Excellent Endoscopy Unit at Ormskirk Hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David William Cheetham - Posted on 05 October 2024

Yesterday 4 October 2024 I attended the Endoscopy Unit at Ormskirk Hospital for a colonoscopy. I was most impressed by the newness of the unit which I understand only opened the previous Tuesday following relocation from the main hospital building. I was referred to the unit for the test by a consultant at Southport Hospital after being treated at the SAU for haemorrhoids. I was contacted by phone at home the week before and offered the appointment. This was followed by a parcel in the post containing Moviprep, full instructions for its use and a clear and comprehensive guide on Information and consent. There were also forms for me to complete and take with me to my appointment. The location information of the unit was clear as it is to the Eastern side of the main car park opposite the main entrance to the hospital. Unfortunately taxi drivers do not seem to appreciate they can drive in and out of the car park without paying to collect patients from outside the unit and are not yet familiar with the location of this separate clinic. I received careful and courteous treatment by the receptionist and the nurses who dealt with my admission and those who discharged me. The endoscopist and nurses explained what they were doing to me and helped get into correct positions for the examination. I could see my colon on a screen and the endoscopist explained what he was doing. He took gentle care and by using the Entonox I was pain free. Nurses took great care to wipe equipment, surfaces and beds used by other patients when they left the admissions area to go for examination and in the recovery area. Some cleaners seemed to be regularly cleaning the floors. So my impression was of a high standard of hygiene. The cup of tea and biscuits in the recovery area was most welcome as was the efforts made by the nurses to arrange for a taxi to take me home. Despite delays by the taxi firm, one stayed with me throughout the wait to ensure I left safely. I have previously had a colonoscopy at Leigh Infirmary 3 years ago and found the same concern for modesty at Ormskirk. Paper short with a rear slit and surgical gown and separate changing spaces with beds and curtains both before and after the procedure. The one page colonoscopy report I was given most reassuring as no evidence was found of cancer. A most satisfactory outcome. The patient discharge information is comprehensive. My stay within the 4 hours maximum stated in patient information, being three and a half from arrival to departure. My thanks to all concerned. The web page for the Patient Experience and Complaints Team on the discharge information does not appear to exist.

  2. Review titled Great staff, terrible facilities

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 July 2024

I had a recent stay at this hospital. The staff were mostly wonderful and seemed like genuinely caring people. Unfortunately the hospital itself appears to be very poorly run. There were no wheelchairs available, one of the lifts was broken and there is paint chipping off the rails on the main corridor. I do not understand how basic things like these have not been fixed or brought up to standard. I have recently found out that the corporate offices have been given chill out areas that is for their sole use and wonder how the hospital can find money for that and not wheelchairs for patients or keeping the building in a fit condition.

  4. Review titled Our appointment was at Southport and the staff were amazing

Rated 5 stars out of 5

We had an appointment at the fracture clinic at Southport Hospital for my 9 year old to have his cast taken off and x-ray as he had broken his wrist 7 weeks ago. He has Autism and very distressed throughout the whole thing, the staff in both the fracture/trauma department and the x-ray department were amazing and understanding with him. They didn't rush him, and spoke to him with real care and understanding.

  6. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I would like to say a big thank you to the Consultant ( Kidney transplant )in A and E at Southport Hospital ft or his kindness and skill in caring for my son, (who has just a few months ago had a liver transplant). My son was admitted to Southport via A and E recently on 31st May. He was polite and courteous and also communicated what was happening as my son had Neutropenic Sepsis. I want to thank all the staff on ward 11 B for their excellent care and for being welcoming. A big thank you goes to the Ward Sister who looked after him when he arrived on the ward; whose humour and kindness helped to reassure my son and myself. The standard of care was excellent and it helped to reassure me. Thank you to all staff and especially thank you to Doctors for taking time to liaise with St James' in Leeds. I felt reassured that my son was being very well cared for.

  7. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Graham Webster - Posted on 04 April 2024

Suspected heart attack that wasn’t ! But from entering A&E to being transferred to ACU , although a long process , the attention I was afforded was nothing short of fantastic ! The triage nurses were brilliant , the unit nurses the same and the doctors were very good at explaining what was happening ! The whole experience , although a little scary was made easier by the nursing staff Just a pity I can’t name names but the ward Sister and her nurses were brilliant !

  8. Review titled Always good

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Steve SCOTT - Posted on 08 April 2024

I attended Ormskirk hospital today for an urology procedure. As usual the place was spotless. A big 5 stars to the domestic team. Then onto the treatments area for my procedure where I was met by a very professional lady who took all my details and explained in brief the procedure. The staff in the treatment area where the procedure was carried out were unbelievable, so kind and extremely professional and I would like to say a massive thank you . These days it seems common place to criticise and complain especially about our treasured NHS. I have no complaints whatsoever about this hospital only praise and more praise. Thank you and keep up the fantastic work you do

  9. Review titled Shocking wait!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Alexander Boyes - Posted on 22 February 2024

Attended A&E Southport with an enlarged prostate unable to pass urine . A Catheter was inserted promptly which I was a relief, however the 6 hour wait to see a doctor was completely unreasonable!
