Review titled Excellent care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ross Peacock - Posted on 16 December 2024
I had a partial nephrectomy in November 2024. I've never had surgery before and, despite receiving a lot of good written information in the lead up to the operation, I wasn't sure of what to expect. I needn't have worried - the Freeman staff were roundly excellent. They took their time to explain everything, step by step, both during my first visit to the hospital and when I was admitted for the procedure. After I came round from the operation, I was looked after extremely well by a fantastic nursing team, and I was glad to have face-to-face contact with the surgeon on three occasions before I was discharged. Since then, I've recovered well and have had a further appointment with the surgeon to check in with how I'm doing - I understand that there will be another in a few weeks. I'm not sure what else the team could have done. All said and done, I thought they were roundly excellent; they seemed to never stop, and nothing was any bother for them. Anyone having to attend the Freeman will be in good hands; I thank them for their efforts and their excellent care.

Review titled Great service
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Firstly a huge thank you to everyone involved in my visit. I cannot remember the name of the doctor who treat me, but I hope you can let him know thatthe symptoms which mystified him as much as me disappeared overnight as quickly as they had appeared the day before. Must have been our first thought of an allergic reaction to some new shower soap. I will not therefore need the follow up ultra scan he mentioned.I am amazes how I received so much care and attention in the time I was there especially given how many people were in the department. Thank you all so much again. My hospital number was 91917157.

Review titled Excellent patient care and service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Carole - Posted on 06 September 2024
Having recently had need to visit the Freeman Hospital I can not praise enough the care and help I was given. The receptionists with their friendly smile in all departments and their kind reassuring words makes such a difference when attending an appointment alone. The kindness shown throughout my visit was far above ‘just doing a job’ and that includes the gentleman who showed me the way to the cafe and the staff in the cafe itself. My visit was compatible with private medical care - thank you so much to all involved such amazing and kind people ❤️

Review titled Unhappy with appointment line
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 30 August 2024
I called the NHS booking line for further information about an appointment that was cancelled and rescheduled a year later leaving a significant gap in my care nearly 2 years.the customer service advisor responded with what do you want me to do. And then i explained my concern about the gap the advisor said they dont know who to contact. Would not recommend the appointment line as found it very unhelpfull.

Review titled Dreadful basic communication
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Scottish immigrant - Posted on 17 June 2024
Not a life and death matter but a concern even so. I need batteries for my NHS aids. My GP gave me the number of Freeman Audiology dept. Their recorded message referred me to the Newcastle Hospitals website which referred me back to the Freeman Audiology number. I am now completely in the dark. The Audiology Dept will only accept communication by appointment, but no information as to how to get in touch or otherwise get this basic information.

Review titled Terrible experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by john wigham - Posted on 06 September 2024
I had green light laser surgery over 3 months ago, staff at the time were very nice, no complaints, However after the operation I was in a lot of pain, my movement was restricted with the pain in my groin area and pelvis, the pain got worse slowly day by day, until I needed crutches to walk the pain and restrictive movement worsened resulting in having to use a wheelchair, I am also totally incontinent three months later, the after care from the hospital is none existent!!!! I had an MRI scan 3 weeks ago and as yet it has not been looked at, meanwhile I am in a lot of pain, I need help going to the toilet and getting out of bed, the day before the operation I did a 25 mile bike ride and 6 mile run, I had a physical job and was very active, this operation has been life changing with no after care from the hospital, think twice before having this operation, I know many people have had good results but if it goes wrong it does in a catastrophic way!!!!!!!!!

Review titled Amazing transplant surgeons
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 05 June 2024
Heart transplant patient. Transplant team and surgeons fantastic! Food, disgusting. Would like to know how much wastage there is each day. Menu repetitive. Food cold by the time it gets to wards. Tasteless.. Like slops. Honestly don't know how they get away with it. Really needs looking at.
