  1. Review titled Incredible Staff

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Tiegan Rubery - Posted on 23 April 2024

I attended Pinderfields A&E on the 23/04/2024 with my mentally ill brother and we were initially seen by a a nurse who was amazing at her job and extremely patient as he can be a bit of a nightmare. Another girl came to help Megan with ginger hair but I failed to get her name. She was also incredible, caring and you could tell she genuinely wanted to help. These girls need to get the thanks and recognition that they deserve. They restored my faith in humanity today. I hope this message gets passed on to them. The security on the other hand, not so great. Granted they’re there to do their job however you can tell they have no training whatsoever on how to handle mental illnesses. This is something that I think would go a long way.

  2. Review titled Shocking

Rated 3 stars out of 5

After attending A&E for the second time that week, first IV antibiotics then sent home with further oral antibiotics. Came back two days later. Waited a couple of hours to be seen, sever urological condition. After triage and being seen I was shifted to observations. Where I sat for five hours nearly. Two staff with what I could count 20 to 25 people, unable to manage, elderly people needing help to toilet, no one to do it, blood spillage, waited hours until I was seen with tears due to pain, given two paracetamol. Left in a corner watching and wondering what’s happened to the NHS. At moments in that room there seemed little comfort, the two staff on were clearly overwhelmed and stretched. A consultant was bemoaning fairly loudly one her colleagues, people were waiting hours to be seen, little to no privacy. Even though I was told I was urgent I had to go back to my GP for referral to urology which was bureaucratic madness. I was shocked at what I witnessed and realised the system has broken in places. I left with little faith and confidence in what was once a Jewel of our country.

  3. Review titled Long wait but worth the service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Natalie c - Posted on 27 January 2024

I went to A&E in Tunbridge wells following advice from my doctor . It was a Friday evening and the waiting time was about 3 hours but the amount of people coming in and out you could understand why it was so long . When I got seen by the GP they were very good , really listened and gave advice and then I went back to the waiting room while they asked advice . I then needed to wait to see a nurse . While waiting the GP called me back in just to say what I was going to have done and that I won’t see him again but reassured me the staff had it all sorted . The nurses were lovely and professional. Overall I was there about 5 hours but I can’t complain because I left feeling reassured and treated by professional calm lovely people. There are machines to buy drinks and snacks , a water machine and somewhere to charge phones .

  4. Review titled Shocking wait times

Rated 2 stars out of 5

After a call to tell me that an ambulance might be 3 hours and it would be quicker to go to a and e as they would be quicker, I'm still sat here 7 hours later waiting for someone to confirm that my mother has a urine infection (determined over 3 hours ago) and the results of a blood test. She is elderly, frail, has diabetes, recovering from a stroke and has dementia and we've been sat in a chair for hours on end. It's gone 4.30am and she's had no sleep either- none of this is conducive to a healthy lifestyle or healing. And as the person designated to drive her home, I am shattered with no sleep also. The pace at which some staff move matches that of a sloth. Unimpressed.

Baby with an infection. Here for 7 hours with no communication from staff. Weve been here so long we have run out of nappies, the baby has missed a nap and has missed dinner. On enquiry we were told if we left to get anything we woyld lose our place in the queue. Broken service.

  6. Review titled No triage and ignored.

Rated 1 star out of 5

Came in with difficulty breathing and a terrible cough. Breathless just crossing a road. I'm only 39. I had seen my gp who advised me to go straight to a&e. Concerned about a blood clot as I have an auto immune condition. I sat there for hours without even being triaged. They in fact were not triaging people at all. It wasn't even that busy. A man with a cut on his toe was seen before me. After almost three hours waiting and asking the receptionist when I would be seen, I was told they had my file and that was that. I had to travel to another hospital, where I was seen quickly and diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism or blood clot on my lung. I can't tell you how hurt I felt seeing people they deemed more "worthy" of being seen. Triage is so important and they don't do this in Aberystwyth A&E

  7. Review titled Terrible experience

Took my 4 month old baby to a and e at Chorley through the advice of the 111 service. Baby was weazing and gasping when upset and generally wasn't herself. We took her here the receptionist was absolutely lovely. We waited in a filthy waiting room for children, we them saw a doctor and we were in the room for less than 5 minutes. Baby had fallen asleep whilst waiting and the doctor didn't wake her up, her listened to her chest and said shes a healthy baby and there is nothing wrong. Sometimes baby's breath loudly???? Reluctant at this information we booked an appointment with our own GP, when the GP listened to her chest he said it wasn't clear at all and he could hear some weazing, therefore she was put on a inhaler. All in all this could of been resolved in a and e, however the 'specialist' didn't seem to want to bother with us, didn't wake her up to see what was actually happening with her. When taking your children to somewhere like this you would much rather them be thorough instead of being made out to have brought them in for no reason. We have had experiences with Wigan children's a and e recently and I have to say our experience there was amazing, she saw three doctors, follow up appointments and resolved our issues within a couple of days. I would not recommend this a and e.

  10. Review titled Shocking and breeding ground for disease

Rated 1 star out of 5

I was sent to Lister A&E with suspected blood clots (covid positive and 30 weeks pregnant). The first shocking thing was that I was in no way separated from the rest of the other patients even though I had covid and coughing. Hardly any patients were wearing masks. A patient asked a nurse where could she dispose of a full vomit bowl - she was told to just leave it under her chair! Nurses were not changing their gloves to deal with individual patients’ canulas and drips. One patient asked a particular nurse for some pain medication, she was very rude saying she wasn’t a nurse and she was stopping her from doing her work. 10 mins later another patient asked the same nurse for pain medication and she quite happily sorted some out for her - in front of the patient that was refused! The department was very busy and very understaffed, with one doctor to see 70+ patients. Lots of sick patients sitting on the floor for hours. I was left sitting on a plastic chair, heavily pregnant and breathless for 8.5 hours overnight. Shocked and disappointed with the whole experience as I usually have good things to say about Lister. Their lack of infection control was the worst part and would definately not recommend going there to receive treatment.
